23.01.2022 A year ago today, our hearts were broken with the loss of two of our volunteers - Deputy Captain Geoffrey Keaton and firefighter Andrew O’Dwyer. The two young d...ads from the Horsley Park Rural Fire Brigade were tragically killed when a tree hit the fire truck they were in at Buxton, south-west of Sydney. Today, many of our members will take a moment for quiet reflection, to give thanks and remember. Sadly, Geoff and Andrew were two of four NSW RFS members who lost their lives last season and we will mark the anniversary of the loss of Sam McPaul and Colin Burns in the days ahead. And we will also remember the lives of the three American aircrew who died when a Large Air Tanker crashed in January. While we reflect on the terrible loss, including for members of the community, we are also grateful for the support, friendship and camaraderie shown over the last year, in such a difficult time for so many people. Days like this are tough and support is available. Lifeline 13 11 14 Beyond Blue 1300 22 4636 For NSW RFS members, you can contact the Critical Incident Support Services Team or the Member Assistance Program for free support.

21.01.2022 Merry Christmas! Thank you everyone for such a successful Santa run this year. We were so happy to see so many smiling faces this year. We hope we were able to spread some Christmas cheer as the last 12 months have been rough for our town. We’re very sorry if we missed anyone but we hope you understand we were on a tight schedule as Santa needed to get back to the North Pole!... If you have any photos or videos, please post them in the comments as we loved seeing everyone smiling and waving! Merry Christmas from the team at Batemans Bay RFS!

11.01.2022 Incident Call Just after 4:30pm our brigade alongside Nelligen Rural Fire Brigade were called to reports of a bush fire on the Kings Highway between Batemans Bay and Currowan. We responded 2 trucks to assist Nelligen brigade. On our way to the call one of our trucks came across a minor motor vehicle accident and rendered assistance before continuing on the Kings Highway. ... Thankfully after a thorough investigation of the area no fire was found and all crews were able to return to station. Many people may have noticed a notification from the fires near me smartphone application, this is set after a 000 call has come in and will be updated as crews arrive on scene or investigate the area.

We are so excited to continue to build our team at Batemans Bay RFS with many more recruits not far off finishing their training and becoming able to attend call outs with us.

09.01.2022 The heatwave forecast for this weekend has been upgraded to extreme. If a fire starts under these conditions fire behaviour is likely to be erratic and unpredic...table. Take extreme caution in all activities to minimise any source of ignition. Review your Bush Fire survival plan and know what you will do if there is a fire in your area. 06.01.2022 Know what to do when you hear a siren or see the flashing blue or red lights of an approaching emergency vehicle? When you hear a siren or see the flashing blu...e or red lights of an approaching emergency vehicle: * Give way to the emergency vehicle if you are stopped do not move until it is safe to proceed, even if the traffic light is green. If you are moving, you must slow down and stop if necessary to avoid a collision with the emergency vehicle. * Move out of the way as soon as you can safely do so * Move over as much as you can to the left-hand side of the road or, if possible, move onto the road shoulder or breakdown lane. On multi-lane roads, try to move into the left lane to let the emergency vehicle pass * Drivers on both sides of the road should be prepared to move out of the path of emergency vehicles * Emergency vehicles with sirens sounding or lights flashing responding to urgent situations are not required to follow the rules, as long as it is safe for them to do so. Drivers should always be extra cautious when they see flashing lights or hear sirens. https://roadsafety.transport.nsw.gov.au//approaching-emerg
