25.01.2022 This is fantastic news! A recent third-party life-cycle assessment found that White Oak Pastures stores more carbon in the soil than its animals emit during th...eir lifetimes. ~Karin https://www.fastcompany.com//is-it-possible-to-raise-a-car
23.01.2022 THE GREAT DEBUNKING of WATER WATER WATER COWS COWS COWS Ok, get ready for some debunking this will be another long one... So you might have heard ...it takes 2400 gallons of water to produce 1 lb of beef. This figure is thrown into the debate without thought so whats the truth. The amount of water on the planet is finite. Its the same now as it always has been. There are 1,400 million cubic kilometres of it on earth and circulating through the hydrological cycle. So if the amount of water is always the same why should we even consider it. Well, the issue is the same as carbon, its not how much of it there is but where it is and in what form so instead of saying this or that type. of agriculture uses water lets say borrows water. Water used in any kind of agriculture is classified as green, blue or grey. Green water Is rainwater that falls on the fields and has been absorbed by the plant. Blue water Is water from rivers, lakes and groundwater used by the crop to grow or for animals to drink in a trough. Grey water Is water polluted due to pesticides in agriculture and nutrients from fertilizers. Lets consider how water is cycled in different types of agriculture. Approximately 99 per cent of all livestock spends some final portion of their life finishing in a feedlot or concentrated animal feeding operation (CAFO), where they eat mostly corn- and soy-based feed, along with forage like alfalfa. The other approximately 1 per cent continue to graze on pastureland and are given little supplemental feed. Both systems have a very large green water footprint because both rely heavily on rainfall; pastureland grasses and most corn and soy crops are typically not irrigated. Industrial producers also get a portion of their feed from irrigated grains, which enlarge their blue water footprint. Pastureland systems occasionally require irrigation or provide irrigated supplemental feed. This, in turn, expands its blue water footprint. The details of these systems are discussed below. Industrial beef has a sizable grey water footprint because of nutrient runoff (e.g., nitrogen, phosphorus) from fertilizers and pesticides applied to the corn and soy crops and contaminated runoff from mismanagement of cattle manure. Monocrop grains and vegetables produced by conventional agriculture Pasture-raised beef can have a zero grey water footprint because there is no pollution from runoff of fertilizers and pesticides. Holistically managed beef and lamb creates new soil hummus meaning that the landscape as a whole becomes more able to use green water and hold on to it for times of drought. As beef is 75% water by weight, your 1lb steak is actually comprised of less than 1 pint of water. You eat the steak, absorb the water and it is excreted as sweat or urine, the sweat evaporates and the urine becomes grey water, but not very much at all... So next time someone comes at you with some nonsense about beef using up all the water, set them straight. Yes, producing beef borrows some water, but in the 2.5 million years since our ancestors started eating meat, we havent lost a drop yet. Via our friends at The Ethical Butcher ** For further clarification on the topic Regenerative Grazier Dale Strickler says: Great post, only issue I have is the statement that 99% of animals go through a CAFO. That seems quite high, even for US. Most cows that go to slaughter never see a feedlot and just go from pasture to processing, though may receive some grain during their life and dont qualify for 100% grass fed label. In addition, I would guess grass-fed as labeled occupies maybe 5% of current market, just my educated guess. It is definitely not so worldwide, as there are really very few feedlots over most of the world, the cattle are harvested off pasture, and even the poultry and pork is largely free ranging and fed kitchen scraps to supplement what they scrounge up. If you are calculating by head count that may be true in US because the vast majority of animals processed in US are chickens, most chickens are kept in CAFOs. If you calculate by weight of meat, then that probably isnt a true statement. Didnt mean to distract from a very good post, just dont like that statement because opponents of eating meat latch onto figures like that and use it against us. And finally a fantastic post on the topic thanks to Farmer Tom https://www.facebook.com//a.716686675014/2671545389528898

20.01.2022 The first sunspots to appear in a long time are like early sparrows arriving in spring - a sure sign the weather is going to get kinder, says student of solar cycles, Dr Rob Baker, Armidale, who suggests the end of the worst drought on record is almost over.
20.01.2022 Whats the Difference? Ahead of #WorldEarthDay we are releasing this film to highlight the difference between synthetic and wool fibres. Acrylic, Nylon, Polyes...ter fibres are all oil based plastics with high environmental impact to the planet unlike wool that biodegrades fully on the land and ocean. https://buff.ly/2KQ9KNW See more
19.01.2022 Well done David McKay on your successful motion from Bathurst Branch.

18.01.2022 Reminder - Tomorrow night - Wednesday 22nd January Join NSW Farmers Bathurst Branch to learn about the nature of drought in Australia. The presentation to begin at 7pm so come along early and have some dinner at the Bathurst RSL (own cost) then head into the presentation to listen to Robert who believes that this drought was predictable, based upon the Suns past behaviour and its relationship to rainfall patterns in Australia. Based on his research, Dr Baker will discuss:... - The droughts of today, yesterday and tomorrow - Why do extreme droughts occur? - Was it possible to predict the current drought in Australia? - What does this mean for farmers and future droughts? Space is limited so please RSVP This event is brought to you by the NSW Farmers Bathurst Branch Not in your region? Would like to have one in your region please message us to show your interest. 09.01.2022 Media Statement: NSW Farmers President James Jackson wrote a letter to the editor of the The Sydney Morning Herald following the publication of an article on 8/11/2018. The Association would like to share it with you. https://bit.ly/2JW7QaJ
08.01.2022 This is Fazal Ullah, named by PETA as their "person of the year" for 2018. Animals Australia paid him $38000 for footage of animal cruelty. You may have seen ...it on 60 Minutes. To be sure of getting spectacular footage, they double penned sheep, packing them in tight, then sat back with the camera waiting for the sheep to start dying. If you donate to Animals Australia, or any of the 40-odd affiliate animal rights groups, or attend the anti live export protests, you are every bit as guilty of animal cruelty as Mr Ullah. If you watch Channel 9, and particularly 60 minutes, you helped pay for this. And this is not the first time an animal rights organisation paid for animal cruelty to help the cause. It all started more than 30 years ago with the filming of "Goodbye Joey", where a kangaroo was skinned alive to get good footage of cruelty in order to stop the export of kangaroo products. Next time you see "evidence" of animal cruelty, ask yourself , who paid for it? and be certain it wasnt you. See more

05.01.2022 SAVE OUR PLATYPUS After overhearing conversations in our household about saving the Winburndale Rivulet, our five-year-old boy requested to colour in a platyp...us (as per the Winburndale Waters Conservation Group logo), and asked me to assist with some spelling. Over the next 24hrs, this five-year old did not stop insisting that it be sent to Council. When I finally asked why he really wanted it to be sent to Council, he replied because I want the Council to know to let the water out of the big dam so that the platypuses dont die. Are we as a population really going to destroy the things worth living for? Is this little boy going to grow up knowing that there once was a thriving ecosystem at the doorstep of Bathurst, but because of our greed (and stupidity?) it is no longer there? Please help us to urge Bathurst Regional Council to abide by their water licence and release the water the rivers ecosystem needs to survive.
