23.01.2022 The Uniting Safe Shelter will not be operating as a shelter this winter, however we are going to open a SHELTER CAFE on the weekend days from 12-2pm in the Activities hall of the Uniting Church. We will be providing people with a hot meal; change of clothing and a sleeping bag if needed. We are looking for donations of new men's clothing - tracksuit pants, tracksuit tops, flannelette shirts, jumpers and other warm clothing. We are well supplied with beanies from your past ge...nerosity. The clothing can be dropped off at the activities hall on a Saturday or Sunday morning when the cafe is open. Thank you everyone for your wonderful support and kindness. Keep safe USS Team See more

22.01.2022 Due to the unexpected advent of Covid19 so much has changed. With limited ways to be able to continue to serve the vulnerable in our community we are pushing ahead with the Shelter Cafe. Currently opening Saturdays and Sundays 12-2pm, with plans underway to extend this further, we are still able to at least provide a hot meal to those who need it most. In addition to this, people are able to access donations of clothing and even a warm sleeping bag if necessary. Many of our ...supporters continue to ask us how best to help. Apart from volunteering your time to serve in the Cafe, here are a few suggestions. Please consider putting together a little gift with a letter or note of encouragement. These will be given out to those who come to lunch (or used in other places if we have more than enough). Gifts should be small, for example: * Donations of individually wrapped chocolates or bags of lollies. Sugar cravings are very commonplace among our guests. * Hand knitted gloves. These would be a blessing against the bitter winter cold. But please no more knitted socks or beanies. We have an overflow of these. * Woolworths Essentials or Groceries Only Gift Cards. You can donate from as little as $10 and it would enable a guest to buy small items they need. Please note we recommend only buying Essentials or Groceries Only Gift Cards as they limit the opportunity for the money to be spent on alcohol or tobacco

19.01.2022 Great News!! The Shelter Cafe will be open 4 days from next week - Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 12 - 2pm, beginning Thursday 18th June. Thank you for the many generous donations of new warm clothing, sleeping bags and blankets. Our guests are very appreciative of the hot meal and drink; a change of clothing and sleeping bag,and especially the warm welcoming smile from the community volunteers and paramedic students who help at the cafe. If you would like to volunteer 2 hrs of your time and help at the cafe please contact us.
