20.01.2022 We are so blessed to have a community full of culture, connection and understanding. Leading into NAIDOC week celebrations, we started the day with the presence... of an local elder, and finished with the next generation. This morning we were joined by Kalmadyne Goombrydge or called Pop by our young friends. ‘Pop’ shared his stories, poems and knowledge with the children. We were so lucky to hear a poem he created to be read to the children. Titled, Australia is our home land by Kalmadyne Goombrydge (2020) Australia is our home land, Where we will always proudly stand. Where the bush land has a calling to walk tall and stay strong. remembering always Australia, to you we do belong. Where the gum and the wattle, the gum and the wattle trees grow, with all its beauty around us, it’s beautiful green and golden glow. Australia, our beautiful homeland. where we take pride of place, every child, woman and man. Where we still do feel and we walk on, walk on our sacred song line. Deep within our beauty that surrounds us, our beautiful sacred Dreamtime. Still here today, our dear Mother Earth, our beautiful sacred world, who is still holding the key and providing for all, our beautiful Dreamtime girl. Australia is our homeland, where the kangaroo and Emu, is the pride of the place, Australia’s national brand.

09.01.2022 Reflecting on NAIDOC Week 2020, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Indigenous Engagement, Professor Juanita Sherwood, shares her thoughts on this year’s theme Always Was,... Always Will Be. First Nations Peoples, side by side with all Australians, have important contributions to make towards a healthy, sustainable country. First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. We are spiritually and culturally connected to this country. This country was criss-crossed by generations of brilliant Nations. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples were Australia’s first explorers, first navigators, first engineers, first farmers, first botanists, first scientists, first diplomats, first astronomers and first artists. With a strengths based approach, we need to value diversity, and respectfully engage with First Nations Peoples’ ways of knowing and being and doing. #NAIDOC2020 #NAIDOCWeek #FirstNations #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe

02.01.2022 Aboriginal Outcomes and Partnerships NSW Department of Education Identity and Education: A Deadly Combination Poster and Multimedia Competition Secondary studen...ts are invited to develop, create and submit a poster or multimedia piece reflecting the key messages to support Premier's Priority. The competition is open to all public schools and high schools. The aim is to launch the winning student(s) works by the end of 2020. Underpinning this promotion is the need for more young Aboriginal men and women to stay at school. Since COVID, sadly, more young Aboriginal people have not returned to school or have missed too many days of education. We know that staying at school until the end of Year 12 will significantly increase both life expectancy, life-wellbeing and lead to greater life opportunities. Land, family, law/lore, ceremony and language are five key interconnected elements of Aboriginal culture. We know that a young Aboriginal person's sense of identity is shaped in these vital years of education. Please refer to the attached poster for all the competition details.
