23.01.2022 Antenatal anxiety and depression is just as common as postnatal anxiety and depression. One in five expecting mums will experience it. And lets get real, even... if you dont experience these illnesses, pregnancy can still be really tough. Theres no shame in talking about this stuff. The more honestly we talk about it, the more we give permission to other parents to talk too! We went to our PANDA Community Champions to find out the things they wish they knew before becoming parents, well be sharing what they told us over the week. Help us raise awareness in your own community about this serious but treatable illness. Learn more: https://zurl.co/AM0m

12.01.2022 Just to let you know For a few weeks from the 1 March 2019 we wont be publishing very much to our page. This is due to the caretaker period that surrounds the upcoming NSW state elections - BUT dont worry we will be back as soon as possible!

11.01.2022 Forecast is for extreme heat today. Fully breastfed babies dont need additional water or other drinks in the heat, as your breast milk gives all the hydration ...and nutrition they need. You may find that your baby will want to breastfeed more often and for shorter times when its hot - just as we will have frequent drinks. Find out more here:https://aba.asn.au/Wc2d4 Hope everyone stays cool and safe today! See more

07.01.2022 Having a Baby in Bathurst? There are several options of care available when you are having a baby! Keep reading for further information or contact the Midwifery Unit on 6330 5210... Midwifery Led Antenatal Clinic (MLAC) Pregnancy care provided by a known midwife in the Midwife clinic. If required during your pregnancy the Midwife can refer you to see the Obstetrician and provide shared antenatal care (alternate appointments between Obstetrician/GP and midwife) Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) Midwifery continuity of care model, you will have a mobile phone number for a known midwife working in a small group of four providing individualised woman centred care. All antenatal care is provided by your allocated Midwife in a variety of settings including at home, MGP clinic room, or group antenatal session. You will telephone your midwife when in labour and they will attend your birth. Your known midwife will continue to see you and provide postnatal care for up to 6 weeks after you have your baby. If medical services are required your midwife will refer you to the Obstetrician or your GP. Aboriginal Maternal Infant Health Service (AMIHS) Midwifery continuity of care throughout the antenatal and postnatal period for Women identifying as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander or having a baby who identifies. Care is provided by an Aboriginal Health Worker and a Midwife. General Practitioner/obstetric In Bathurst we are lucky to have three General practitioners with current obstetric training. You are able to see them for GP continuity throughout your pregnancy. It is essential that you make an appointment with a Midwife at the Bathurst hospital before 20 weeks so they can attend to a comprehensive antenatal assessment. This is so the Maternity Unit has you booked in for the birth of your baby and the Midwife that is on shift when you attend for labour (or earlier if you have concerns) has your medical and Obstetric history. Specialist Obstetric Clinic (SOC) In Bathurst often our local general practitioners will refer you to the Obstetrician if they would like a second opinion. You may be required to see the Obstetrician for the entire pregnancy, you could also share care with MLAC AND SOC. The Obstetricians that work in the SOC also work in the Maternity unit.

04.01.2022 August 1-7 is World Breastfeeding Week: Empower Parents, Enable Breastfeeding. The #WBW2019 slogan Empower Parents, Enable Breastfeeding was chosen to be ...inclusive of all types of parents in todays world. Focusing on supporting both parents to be empowered is vital in order to realise their breastfeeding goals. Empowerment is a process that requires evidence-based unbiased information and support to create the enabling environment where mothers can breastfeed optimally. Breastfeeding is in the mothers domain and when fathers, partners, families, workplaces, and communities support her, breastfeeding improves. We can all support this process, as breastfeeding is a team effort. To enable breastfeeding we all need to protect, promote and support it. Thank you to the mamas who shared your #abrelfieaday photos with us. Your photos tell stories of love, an inspiration to all.
