24.01.2022 The Bathurst SES Unit would like to extend our deepest condolences to the Hill End Rural Fire Brigade, Hill End community, family and friends of Deputy Captian Jim Shanahan who tragically passed away while on duty after attending a car fire in Hill End this morning. Our thoughts are also with our friends at the NSW SES Sofala Unit who attended as Community First Responders and worked hard to try and save Jim’s life. Thank you for your service to the community Jim, may you Rest In Peace.

24.01.2022 What a busy weekend! Our crews attended: Around 20 trees down across roads primarily in the Yetholme area. ... Attended a leaking roof in Raglan on Saturday where the ceiling partially collapsed. Assisted NSW Ambulance access a patient in snowy conditions in Yetholme on Saturday evening. Assisted vehicles stuck in snow. Activated to 3 Flood rescues: - On Friday 21/08/20 NSW SES Orange City Unit activated our unit to assist with reports of 1 male and 2 dogs trapped in flood water on Ophir Rd, Ophir. After extensive searching, the search was called off and the call deemed malicious. - Sunday at 1200hrs NSW SES Sofala Unit activated us to 2 persons trapped on a vehicle in the Turon River on the Bridle Track, Hill End. - Sunday at around 1830hrs our flood rescue team was again activated to assist NSW SES Portland Unit at Lochaber Road, Turon River. 2 children and 4 adults were isolated on an island that they had crossed earlier that day. That makes 4 flood rescue activations in 2 weeks for our unit. IF ITS FLOODED FORGET IT. #NSWSES #floodrescue #treedown #snow

23.01.2022 QUICK UPDATE: Bathurst unit received 43 request for assistance in the space of approximately 15 minutes this afternoon. Teams have finally going home at midnight having completed 33 jobs. Teams will be out and about first thing in the morning to finish the remaining jobs as well as preparing for a potential snow event. Here are just a few quick photos from tonight’s activities

20.01.2022 Yesterday at around 1200hrs our flood rescue team was activated to assist NSW SES Sofala Unit with reports of two people on their vehicle trapped in flood water on the Bridle Track, Hill End. Our unit responded 4 in-water flood rescue technicians. The crew deployed two in-water technicians in our ‘Ark Angel’ that was tethered by ropes and held by on land flood rescue operators. The Ark Angel was paddled up to the vehicle enabling the two occupants to be extricated and then p...ulled to shore by the tethered ropes. The two occupants were transferred to NSW Ambulance who transported them to Hospital. IF ITS FLOODED FORGET IT. #floodrescue #NSWSES

19.01.2022 At around 1800hrs last night our flood rescue team was again activated to assist NSW SES Portland Unit as 2 children and 4 adults were on an island isolated by flood water in the area of Lochaber Road, Capertee. The 6 persons crossed the Turon River earlier that day and were unable to recross the river. Our in water flood rescue technicians extricated the 6 people in two stages due to the boat not being able to reach the persons. ... The in water flood technicians used the Arch Angel to transport 2 people at a time from one island to where the flood boat was situated in the middle of the Turon River. They then used the flood boat to transport the patients back to the mainland. NSW SES Sofala Unit were on scene with their community first responders and were able to assess the patients. 18.01.2022 CAT RESCUE This afternoon at around 1630hrs our crew and police rescue attended Vivability in Wyndradyne as a cat had been stuck in a storm water drain for the past couple of days. The composite crew was forced to use our hydraulic equipment to gain access as the grates in that area could not be lifted. ... The cat was lured into the open space with some food, enabling one of our operators to grab her. A member of the public transported her to the vet so the owner can hopefully be located. #nswses #catrescuer #rescue.

15.01.2022 When a wild wind storm blew through Bathurst in late September creating over 50 requests for assistance in a matter of hours from the community - the Bathurst Unit of the NSW SES stepped into action. 12.01.2022 This morning our storm and rescue operators were activated to two jobs at different ends of our LGA. At 06:15am our storm crew responded to a tree down on the Mitchell HWY between Orange and Bathurst. An hour later at 07:15 the same crew left the tree job and responded to the Great Western HWY at Walang, for reports of a two vehicle collision, with one person trapped. ... 09.01.2022 On Tuesday our rescue team was activated to assist WIRES as a bird had netting wrapped around its neck and was hanging from the top of a tree in Kelso. The tree was too unstable to erect a ladder so the crew used a rope and a pole saw to bring the top of the tree down to the ground. This enabled the Wires member to assess the bird and allowed our crew to cut the netting. The bird flew away once the netting was removed. ... #birdrescue #wires #NSWSES

08.01.2022 Yesterday at midday, volunteers from the Bathurst Unit of the NSW SES were activated to assist NSW Ambulance, with a patient lift in difficult terrain in the middle of Sunny Corner State Forest. Seven rescue operators attended, in addition to three members of the NSW SES Bush Search and Rescue Unit who were in the area doing a map and navigation course. The patient was packaged and transported to a fire trail, where he was loaded into the waiting ambulance and transported to hospital. Thanks to everyone who assisted on a busy Bathurst weekend.

07.01.2022 Severe Thunderstorm Warning for DAMAGING WINDS, LARGE HAILSTONES and HEAVY RAINFALL For people in Central Tablelands, North West Slopes and Plains, Central West Slopes and Plains, South West Slopes, Australian Capital Territory, Northern Tablelands and parts of Hunter, Southern Tablelands, Riverina, Lower Western, Upper Western and Snowy Mountains Forecast Districts.... Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds, large hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours. 06.01.2022 At around 1730 this afternoon emergency services were called to a motor vehicle collision involving a coach and ute near Walang, between Lithgow and Bathurst on the Great Western Highway. Our rescue crew assisted police rescue in opening the partially dislodged coach door, enabling the driver to self-extricate. The other vehicle involved did not require rescue assistance and had self-extricated upon arrival. NSW ambulance were in attendance and provided treatment to those involved.
