25.01.2022 Part 4 of looking after yourself from home is dedicated to stretching! The benefits extend to everyone, not just yogis and runners and include increased flexibility and range of motion, which means you are less likely to injure yourself. It also helps to slow the mobility loss associated with aging. Stretching increases blood flow to joints too and helps to secrete synovial fluid into them - which is a fancy way of saying helps to cover joints in lubrication so they run ...smoothly. If you don't move your joints they basically dry out () making them prone to injury. . You can also stretch to improve posture! For example, if your hunched over stretching the chest would help you greatly. Better posture = less aches and pains. If you're unsure of where you need to stretch contact me and we can work it out together! . What's more, often we become tense when stressed, so having a stretch can be an amazing tool for stress relief, particularly on the neck, which can be really helpful for releasing tension headaches. . The last benefit of stretching has to do with releasing fascia, a connective tissue that encases every organ, muscle and bone in the body. It was only discovered recently, but when this stuff gets out of line, it can wreak havoc on your posture, mobility and quality of life. Every wondered why your shoulder or ankle didn't go back to normal after you injured it? It is probably your fascia! Stretching can help loosen this all up and improve the function of your body! I know some really great YouTube videos if you would like to learn more. . There's a whole world of stretching out there for you to explore but the pictures above I've are chosen because they're the ones I most commonly suggest for my clients and cause the most trouble when these muscles are too tight. Picture 1 is stretching the neck, 2 is lower back, 3 is hip flexors, 4 is quads and 5 is glutes. Make sure to stretch gently, don't force anything and stop if you feel any pain. You might feel a slight burning sensation, but it should feel good! Happy stretching! . #hobart #tasmania #derwentvalleytasmania #newnorfolk #remedialmassage #massagetherapy #stretching #health See more

24.01.2022 Check out these beautiful business cards made by my dear friend Rhiannon. Printed on eco friendly paper made from recycled T-shirt that would normally be thrown away. How wild is that?!

24.01.2022 Hanna has a great knowledge of the body and of the whole therapeutic process. We were able to explore the areas I was experiencing discomfort which helped me to... understand more about the source of the pain. Hanna also gave me some exercises to work on in the future to help maintain her good work! I felt so comfortable and at ease with Hanna, and I couldn't recommend a massage with her more highly! 22.01.2022 Today's post is about heat therapy but I didn't have many pictures for that so chose these ones of Nell being a cosy wrapped up bean. . Using heat in the form of heat packs, hot water bottles or a bath can be so beneficial for inducing relaxation, reducing stress and easing pain. Not only that, but being warm helps us to feel good, safe and secure. So when we put all of that together, you can see that our physical and mental (and spiritual if that's your thing!) selves are... intrinsically linked. By that I mean if you're stressed out, you're going to feel pain and discomfort more strongly. Likewise, if you're in pain your ability to feel enthusiastic and positive is going to be hindered. . So how does having a bath or using a heat pack help you? (Aside from making you feel snug and cosy). Firstly, heat is reassuring and reassurance equals pain relief. Secondly, heat increases blood flow which means more nutrients can get into to the muscle. Thirdly, heat loosens things up and flushes out muscle waste, which means that rich, revitalizing blood flow can penetrate the muscle deeper. If you were wondering about Tiger Balm or similar products, these work by distracting your brain from the pain source - your brain can only process so many things at once!- and work by mildly irritating the skin, similar to how a chilli burns. . When NOT to use heat: if you have a fresh injury like a strain or sprain, or there are signs of infection like swelling and redness, heat will only exacerbate things! Message me if you're confused. Heat is amazing for period cramps, tight muscles (especially good for the back and neck) and DOMS - delayed onset muscle soreness from exercise. . If you're lucky enough to have a bath at home try adding Epsom (magnesium) salts to it, your muscles will love you for it! Also a few drops of your favourite essential oil. . To wrap this up, using heat directly on the skin is effective, drug free and cheap. Not to mention it makes you feel like a snuggly little bean. Why not give it a go today, it's the perfect day for it! . #hobart #newnorfolk #derwentvalleytasmania #derwentvalley #southernmidlands #massage #health #tasmania

19.01.2022 Very excited to announce that solar panels on the roof mean Batstone Massage Co is now completely solar powered! This means all the energy for washing of towels and heating comes from the sun.

18.01.2022 The team was up at sunrise this morning massaging to raise money for bushfire related charities (Wires and NSWRFS) at the Hobart Run The Bridge event! Very grateful for my massage buddies for helping me put this together . #hobart #tasmania #massage #hobartrunthebridge #hobartrunning @ Princes Wharf 1

17.01.2022 I tore a my a muscle in my back and received a high quality treatment, in which the pain of my injury was taken into account with great care, and a professional... level of experience was shown. Uncomfortablity was reduced greatly to the point of being mobile again after struggling with simple tasks such as entering and exiting a motor vehicle. The rehabilitation knowledge provided was a great help as I was given further instructions on correct ways to heal with a step by step program of gentle excerises for initial healing, and more indepth exercises to ensure the longevity of the health of my back. The studio space also has a very calming energy and lovely views of the Upper Derwent that helped me relax and get the most out of the treatment. Highly recommended for many demographics and health needs.

16.01.2022 Beautiful afternoon here in Dromedary, there's even a tiny little moon out! A spot has opened up for tomorrow, contact me if you would like to claim it

14.01.2022 As this government imposed down time draws on and our normal methods of looking after ourselves have been disrupted, it's more important then ever for us to look after our physical, mental and spiritual health from the safety of our homes! For this reason, I thought I would share some tips and tricks with you to keep you feeling great and maintaining a good level of wellness until you can go out and get a massage again - woohoo! Please also remember if you have any questi...ons and would like some advice, feel free to get in touch! Over the next few post I will talk about some easy things you can do to ensure less tightness and pain with greater mobility. So, here we go! First up is massage balls, a tool used for self massage. In the pictures above, the purple spiky ball is hard - for the pain lovers out there - and the blue is slightly softer if you prefer a gentler pressure. To use, you roll the ball into the tight area if muscle either against the wall, lying down or with you hand. These are particularly good for working knots out of the back and back of neck. You are also able to choose how much pressure works for you too. So choose your own adventure! If you don't own massage balls, fear not! You can easily use a tennis or cricket ball instead. In my next post I will talk about the foam roller, known to some as the Pain Sausage. I hope you find this information useful, sending love to you all in these strange times. #hobart #tasmania #derwentvalley #southerntasmania #southernmidlands #massage #massagetherapy #remedialmassage #holistichealth #holistichealing #healing #selfcare #health @ Dromedary, Tasmania, Australia

11.01.2022 Here is part two of what you can do from home to relieve muscle aches and pains, the foam roller! Also known as the pain sausage, the age old adage of no pain no gain comes to mind . Though foam rolling can be tender to start with, as the muscles relax, the discomfort reduces and you know you're making progress! It's important to remember though, that the pain you want to experience is the "good" kind, make sure you stop if the pain is unbearable or sharp. Also trust your ow...n intuitive understanding of your body, you know what's right for you! . The benefits include reduced soreness and increased flexibility. As the name suggests, you slowly (emphasis on the word slowly, as you want to give the muscles a moment to completely relax) roll on the cylindrical foam tube while on the floor. This method works particularly well on the calves, quads, hamstrings and glutes. Foam rolling is best done is small bouts, regularly. . I also love lying with the roller along my spine and opening my arms out to make a T shape, which stretches out the chest. If you haven't tried opening the chest, I highly recommend it for all! This is because the lifestyles we have today (lots of driving, sitting at desks and hunching forwards etc) have caused our chest muscle to tighten our shoulders to roll forward, thus creating muscular imbalances which then results in back, neck and shoulder pain. If you don't have a roller, be creative in what you can use to bolster yourself! . Once again, contact me if you have any questions. The next post will be about heat therapy - perfect timing with winter on the horizon. . #massage #massagetherapy #remedialmassage #remedialmassagetherapist #healing #foamroller #tasmania #hobart #derwentvalleytasmania #southernmidlands #tassie #sustainableliving #environmentallyfriendly #selfcare See more

02.01.2022 Mixed up some antibacterial disinfectant using ethanol, tea tree oil and white vinegar (the buggies don't stand a chance with this combo) for use in my massage room. This is so I can avoid using antibacterial wipes that don't break down, contain plastic and leak harmful chemicals into the environment. Eumarrah and Unpacked in Kingston are where I buy the vinegar from, repurposing old milk bottles to avoid more single use plastics. It's super easy to make, contact me if you would like the recipe

02.01.2022 Hanna is so attentive to the needs and reactions of my body. She has been helping with my lower back issues for almost a year now, and I have never had such pos...itive and productive results from massage ever before. Hanna listens and adapts her touch with the slightest change in my breath, it amazes me. And she has reccomended particular stretches for me to take as homework that have been incredibly useful. I cannot reccomend Batstone Massage Co. enough!! Do yourself a favour and visit asap! See more
