22.01.2022 Powerful stuff from the Japanese perspective.

21.01.2022 Id like to start a thread showing civic place names (such as streets and parks) and the battlefield or historic site they are named after. To kick us off, here is Flers St in Sydney, named after the 1916 battlefield of Flers on the Somme. Feel free to contribute!

17.01.2022 So sad to hear that Captain Tom Moore, who won our hearts doing 100 laps of his garden before his 100th birthday to raise money for Britain’s health service, has died of Covid. RIP soldier. #captaintom #covid #ww2

16.01.2022 The Battle of Pozires (23 July 3 September 1916) took place in France around this small village during the Battle of the Somme. The costly fighting ended with the Allies in possession of the plateau north and east of the village, in a position to menace the German bastion of Thiepval from the rear. Although the six-week battle for Pozires was a success, with Allied forces taking the town, there were some 23,000 casualties - making this the most costly battle in Australian history. #pozieres Hautetfort I love Northern France - Hauts de France Region Museum Slag van de Somme 1914-1918

14.01.2022 A great article from a 1934 edition of Reveille, describing the huge job of transporting the Amiens Gun back to Australia after #WW1. Sadly the carriage was scrapped, so only the barrel is displayed at the Australian War Memorial.

13.01.2022 75 years ago today, Japan formally surrendered on board the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay, and #WW2 officially ended. Note the error from the Canadian delegate that almost botched the surrender. He signed on the wrong line on Japans copy, forcing some hasty hand-written corrections.
