23.01.2022 It’s merchandise week here at BoB: we’ve just had these gorgeous greetings cards delivered by the artist herself, @eileenlubiana. They are for sale at cellar door as are this seasons new must-have Bosworth wines totes. They will also be up on the website too so can be slipped into a case of wine. Let us know if you are sending a gift and want to use one of these cards for your message. Write the message in the shipping information box when you checkout and we will faithfully... copy it in our bad handwriting and pop the card in the box! https://www.bosworthwines.com.au/Wines/Battle-of-Bosworth

22.01.2022 It’s like an episode of the X files in the vineyard. Look closely and the long dark salami thing is a swarm of European bees. Aka honey bees. Joch and vineyard man Clint Ledgard donned the protective gear and carefully snipped the swarm off the vine and popped it into the travelling box which has a technical term which I can’t recall. Next stop the flow hive which will be located up next to cellar door. Joch still has to assemble this apparently it makes putting together an... IKEA piece of furniture look like a walk in the park. I think there is a wait of about a year and then fingers crossed the honey will start to flow. Buzz buzz buzz

22.01.2022 One of the first labels we made under the Spring Seed label was the Scarlet Runner Shiraz (the other one was the Four o'Clock Chardonnay). The Shiraz is bottled at the end of its vintage year and spends only a small amount of time time in oak - mainly older oak, which allows the fine McLaren Vale characteristics to shine through - spice, a little chocolate and some lovely red and black fruits. Try some by here https://www.bosworthwines.com.au//Spring-Seed--Scarlet-Run

20.01.2022 The nets have gone on the orchard Chardonnay which means vintage is just around the corner. We use the nets to stop starlings getting into the grapes. We also combine the netting with the use of our drone to repel the feathered little pests. #vintage2021 here we come

19.01.2022 The world according to Joch. Who, why, when where what and how.

19.01.2022 A case of one that got away. We have bought quite a few of these lovely old seed packets over the years since we released wine under the Spring Seed label back in 2008. The seed packets were made using the process of stone lithography, the forerunner to screen printing. Most of the packets are well over 100 years and yet the colours still shine through with this amazing luminescence. The Phlox is one of the seed packets I bought but we didn't use - the name is a little too c...lose to the word Phyloxera for comfort. Phyloxera is a tiny insect which eats away at the roots of commercial grape vines and slowly and silently kills them. I think (and hope) I am right in saying that South Australia is phyloxera-free... Have a look at a selection of the beautiful Spring Seed Wines which we have bundled up in a tasting pack. https://www.bosworthwines.com.au/p/Spring-Seed-Tasting-Pack

19.01.2022 I found this as I was hunting for something else in the cellar door cupboard. Five years ago the wine trade was a different place! I went on a quick trip to Dusseldorf for the enormous wine trade fair Prowein, and we had our 20th anniversary for being organic, too. Emma from production and export did some pump overs in the winery, Leonie our book keeper gave us the flick to head out on the open road and Ian Adam was here for vintage. ... Halcyon days indeed. #beforecovid #awardwinningrose

19.01.2022 If you are scratching your head about either what to give as a present or what to drink over Christmas, we have some good ideas for you: here is the Battle of Bosworth Christmas red 6 pack - it contains: 2 bottles each of the BoB Shiraz 2 bottles of the BoB Cabernet Sauvignon and 2 bottles of the BoB 'Heretic' Iberian blend of Touriga, Graciano and Shiraz.... Normal RRP is $168.00 our Ho Ho Ho price is $145.00 plus freight. Great value, lovely wines.

16.01.2022 What did you do on your holiday? Here’s someone having Boxing Day lunch very well down at Leonards Mill and some Bosworth Shiraz. Cheers thanks Linda

15.01.2022 Joch and I have been busy getting some footage together of what we have been doing here for the last 25 years... before we look like we've been here for 25 years. Ah I know, vanity of vanities. All is vanity. But I didn't want to look too Biden in the footage.... This is a short snippet about how we ended up here in this gorgeous corner of McLaren Vale. As you can see we are seasoned screen professionals. Joch is twiddling his thumbs and I am flicking my newly coiffed hair. W...hat a combo! The sequel will be posted tomorrow (oooh, cliffhanger) and will feature Joch explaining more about the organic principles that have guided the evolution of our vineyards and wine brand. #organic #wine #mclarenvale #bosworth25organic

14.01.2022 Another favourite from the Spring Seed range is the 'Sweet Pea' Moscato. This wine is not for everyone - a little sweet and with lower alcohol (usually about 7%). We pick the Muscat grapes, let them sit for a while to get some colour, and then press off the grapes from the skins and make it like a white wine. We stop the fermentation (by chilling the 'must') before all of the sugar has turned to alcohol. Joch had planted the Muscat a Petit Grain (the full name of the grape) i...n order to sell as grapes to a local winery who reneged on the deal in the end so we made the wine ourselves. I reckon it might be the only single vineyard (from Bradens vineyard) organically grown and certified Moscato in Australia; discuss! If you don't like a lovely tangy, grapey sweet wine with a little bit of spritz (we recommend Sweet pea as a brunch wine - serve with scrambled eggs and smoked salmon), then use it as a base for a cheeky gin cocktail. Add ice, lime, mint and a slug of your favourite gin and voila! Cocktail central. This one was the recommendation of former Battle of Bosworth cellar door supremo Ian Adam . The eagle-eyed amongst you will see that this bottle shot is of the 2011 Moscato; our current incarnation of this wine is the 2020 and it is a similar colour to the 2011. This shot was from a #sipsinthecity event back in the day. Have we really been making the Sweet Pea for this long? Come and taste in cellar door or pick some up on the online store: here https://www.bosworthwines.com.au//Spring-Seed--Sweet-Pea-- Cellar door is open for tasting AND sales from 12-5pm daily. We are offering seated tasting and are COVID safe. #mclarenvale #organic #bosworth25organic #moscato #wine #organicwines

14.01.2022 Not much news from Bosworth central other than we have 2 new yellow umbrellas - just in time for this hot weather we are having - plus the great new benches. I also didn’t get round to putting the Xmas shot of Danielle and Rebecca getting into the festive spirit. Theres a shot of Rebecca’s dog who comes in to make sure there is a at least one dog in cellar door when Oscar and Tigger are doing FIFO work (ferry in ferry out) at Springs Road Kangaroo Island... You can see Oscar working the crowd hard from the daybed and Eddie who belongs to Erin, from the tasting bench. Nice work if you can get it. Cellar door is open daily from 11-5pm - we are back to pre-Covid opening times. Happy belated New Year!

13.01.2022 Seems like only yesterday I was whooping it up in Byron at this event. Sadly due to you know what we’ve had to can 2 Soirées in 2020 - one in Adelaide (our first) and the other one in Brisbane... roll on 2021.... I think?

12.01.2022 Now here's an idea - gather some Battle of Bosworth wines, some Second Valley Cheese Company, a soupcon of Little Acre Foods pate and some Small World Bakery bread, find yourself a standard dachshund, and have a picnic. No cheese was harmed during this photo shoot, but we did lose a cornichon or two. Have a look here at our Bosworth tasting pack, https://www.bosworthwines.com.au/product/BOB-Flight-Pack ... #organic #organicwines #mclarenvale #wine #southaustrali

12.01.2022 Here is the sequel to yesterday's post which had footage of Joch and I talking about the whys and wherefores of Battle of Bosworth the brand and the place. In this vignette, Joch explains his interpretation of running the vineyards and winery organically (we are certified too, by the ACO). Joch has been on this organic track for 25 years now. #organic #wine #organicwines #bosworth25organic #mclarenvale

12.01.2022 A gentle tour through the vineyards and cellar door with Tigger. No Joch talking, how refreshing :)

11.01.2022 Do as she says! This lady knows her stuff - as does Tigger the sausage dog obviously. Second Valley Cheese Company has trained her well. Open 12-5pm on the weekend for seated wine flights. Maybe ring ahead if the weather is inclement as we are pushed for space in our little cellar door!

11.01.2022 Tote-tastic - grab one of our super six packs for the Christmas season and pop in a new Bosworth Tote bag too. Free freight with a case of wine (we can pop it in the case) or $10.00 freight. Handy for shopping or as a laptop bag. #wine #mclarenvale #organicwine

11.01.2022 Sometimes I get asked, so how do Battle of Bosworth and Spring Seed and Springs Road KI all fit in. Sometimes I don't have a proper answer. I think this covers most of it.

07.01.2022 A good idea for Christmas? A mixed 6 pack of our premium red wines from both Battle of Bosworth wines in McLaren Vale and Springs Road in Kangaroo Island, with a jolly ho ho ho Christmas price. Wines include the 2017 Chanticleer Single Vineyard Shiraz, the 2017 Springs Road Ki Shiraz, the 2018 Best of Vintage (Shiraz/ Petit Verdot) and the 2016 Ding's Single Vineyard Shiraz.

06.01.2022 Then and now: 1991 Joch’s parents and the house and old chaff shed and former stables and ruin (not 100% sure what it was) behind it made it into a spread in Country Style. The ruin by the way became a ruin after the earthquake of 1954. Flip forward to now and here is the cellar door is all its rustic glory. It’s open daily from 12-5pm for tastings and sales.

06.01.2022 The Spring Seed Wine Co Years... we released wines under the Spring Seed Wine Co brand way back in 2008 during another globally uncertain time AKA the GFC. We created the label around some old (over 100 years) flower seed packets we sourced from a website based in the Midwest of the USA. We bought the originals, shipped them over here and used them as inspiration for the Spring Seed wines, with 3 different labels for each wine (not the Sparklings, they only have one just to c...omplicate things) The first wines we released under the Spring Seed label were the 'Scarlet Runner' Shiraz and the 'Four o'clock' Chardonnay. We loaded up a container and waved the wines off to the USA, with high hopes of adventure and success. When the wine was still on the high seas, we started hearing worrying things about sub-prime mortgages and Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac ... we continued making the wines despite the GFC and selling them into the USA but then broadened the distribution to our Australian state based distributors, our mailing list and other markets such as Japan, Sweden and Korea . The Morning Bride Rose is based on the flower Scabiosa, or the Mourning Bride (because of the dark maroon almost black colour of some of the flowers). Keen gardeners will note the artistic license we have taken with the name of this flower by leaving the ‘u’ out of Morning; no-one could possibly remain sad for long while drinking such a nice wine! The Morning Bride Rose is delicious dry style of Rose, perfect for spring and summer drinking. 04.01.2022 Here's an article in Australia's Wine Business Magazine (WBM) about our 25 years of being organic. We look so young and fresh in it, don't we? We are about to green light our September/October Wine club packs so hop online to www.bosworthwines/Wine-Club if you want to sign up before cut off. Great benefits and great wine packs. #bosworth25organic #organic #organicwines #mclarenvale

03.01.2022 Cellar door is closed for 6 days for lockdown SA but we are still (well, I am) processing online orders. https://www.bosworthwines.com.au/Wines

03.01.2022 Under vine weeding a la Bosworth wines: * dodge plough attached to the tractor near the front wheel to knock out the weeds under the vine * the modified rotary hoe which only cultivates the soil under the vine after the dodge plough has executed the weeds - so we avoid over cultivating the mid row * master dodge Plough operator Leon ‘Kochie’ Koch doing the Hokey Cokey to show us that’s what it’s all about...... #organic #organicwines #bosworth25organic

01.01.2022 Spring and Spring Seed Wines.... introducing the 'Four o'clock' Chardonnay. This (along with the Scarlet Runner Shiraz) ' was the first of the Spring Seed Wines, launched back in 2008 and our first customer was our friends over in America Epicurean Wines who are once again representing our wines over there. As with the other Spring Seed still wines, the 'Four o'clock' has 3 different front labels (so if you were to buy a dozen of them, there would be a mixture of all 3 label...s in the box). This label I have attached is the Four o'clock, so named because the bloom on this flower opens up in the afternoon, at about 4 o'clock. About the same time as you might be reaching for a glass of this beauty. The Four o'clock chardonnay is totally un-oaked, but we make 3 or 4 different components (one stays on its yeast lees for a while - which gives it lovely complexity). The resulting wine has lovely characters of peach and citrus. Serve just chilled with a mushroom risotto, is my suggestion. You can buy the wine here https://www.bosworthwines.com.au//Spring-Seed-Four-o-clock #chardonnay #organic #mclarenvale #organicwines

01.01.2022 Father's Day is drawing to a close here in Australia and dads everywhere are either asleep on the sofa or quietly drinking port in the back room, hiding from the kids or grandchildren. We know this, but we have a story to tell. Our story is Spring Seed related - it is spring after all, so our focus is clear, and press on we must. Gypsy is our NV Blanc de Blancs, organic and delicious. Its name is derived from Gypsophila (commonly known as Baby's Breath - a big favourite wit...h the wedding brigade) and a member of the carnation family. Gypsy’ is a classic Blanc de Blancs style, with a pale straw colour (with a hint of green apple), fine mousse and gentle characters of citrus. A splendid wine for celebration, Gypsy is also a versatile wine, try with oysters or anything else that takes your fancy. Serve chilled. Snore on, dad/ granddad. This post is for the mums out there! Have a little look here for more details. #organic #organicwines #blancdeblancs #mclarenvale #wine #mclarenvalewine https://www.bosworthwines.com.au//NV-Spring-Seed--Gypsy--B?
