12.01.2022 Today is @ruokday so we asked our incredible VIC speaker, Linh, what it is like to have a friend support you through a rough time: Whenever things get tough and my wellbeing is impacted, my first instinct is to isolate myself from friends and family. Alice has always been one of the first people to notice my warning signs and reach out to make sure Im doing OK. She usually calls because she knows I tend to ignore text messages every time Im stressed, and wed talk about... all sorts of random things. I really appreciate her checking up on me even though it may seem like I need my own space. It makes me feel so much better knowing that someone cares and that Im not alone. - Linh We hope everyone has an amazing R U OK Day, and if you think one of your friends is struggling maybe now is the time to reach out to them and ask r u ok? 12.01.2022 We are so honoured and privileged to announce that batyrs programs have been recommended in the Children and Young Peoples Experience of Disaster Report 2020 report by the Office of the NSW Advocate for Children & Young People (ACYP). Why is the ACYP mention a big deal? Their mission is to make NSW a better place for children and young people, which we couldnt be a bigger advocate of as a youth organisation. ... To produce the report, ACYP representatives traveled to disaster-affected areas in NSW and got input from 1,400 young people to find out how the needs of young people could be better supported before, during and after a disaster. As part of their 10 mental health recommendations, ACYP recommended support for the youth-led programs developed by batyr that encourage peer to peer support and training for children and young people. We want to continue to support, and be advocates for young people in all areas of Australia. You can find out more here: https://www.batyr.com.au/batyr-programs-recognised-in-nsw-/ See more

09.01.2022 Tomorrow we will be taking the day offline for #digitaldetoxday "The world of social media has many benefits, but over the years, its become more and more an extension of our hands and minds & we can find ourselves endlessly scrolling, comparing, judging, being cyberbullied, not setting boundaries and not knowing when to switch off. It can be the cause of anxiety, depression, sleeplessness, loneliness and low self esteem and over the years Ive had thousands of message...s from you all, including other creators who are struggling with how social media makes them feel, so this felt like the perfect campaign to put together." - @zoesugg When we jump back online we will share with you all some tips on how to make the online world a happier place for you! #digitaldetoxday See more

This year has been challenging for everyone and we are so happy we've been able to create a space for our community to come together, take charge of their wellbeing and show their support for youth mental health. When we first decided to run a Virtual Festival we set an ambitious fundraising target of $50,000 We didn't have any proof that a Virtual Festival could work, but what we did have, was fai...th in our community. It turns out we were right to have faith! We had 551 people join us and we raised $70,346.57. The funds you raised will go towards supporting young people through our programs and empowering 2,813 young people and their communities to lead mentally healthy lives. Liptember is an opportunity for everyone to start a conversation and raise awareness about mental health in order to destigmatise the negativity linked to such an important topic. Having positive conversations about mental health is really important because it makes me feel comfortable about my experiences and allows me to develop my support ...system, she said. The best way to overcome something is by doing it together and I think participating in Liptember is a great start. The money raised from Liptember goes to batyr, the Centre for Womens Mental Health, @lifelineaustralia, @jeanhailes @pretty_foundation and The Magpie Nest Womens Program. 02.01.2022 We feel so privileged to be able to work on country that has been cared for by First Nations people for over 65,000 years. NAIDOC Week 2020 #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe celebrates that we have the oldest continuing cultures on the planet and recognises that our sovereignty was never ceded. At batyr, storytelling is the basis of everything that we do and we feel it is important for us to engage with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community to listen and learn from t...he people who have kept the world’s oldest tradition of oral stories alive. We have a lot to learn from this tradition and we hope to empower more young First Nations voices so that their stories can be heard For further information about NAIDOC week check out @naidocweek #NAIDOC2020 #NAIDOC #NAIDOCWeek #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe See more
02.01.2022 Last week we hit the road for the first 2 stops of our Get Talkin' Tour 2020 We visited the awesome people in Barraba and Tamworth We asked our program coordinator Imogen what the tour was like and why it was so powerful for her "Last week I got the opportunity to support the batyr team on our regional New England Tour. Amongst advocate training at Barraba and Tamworth rugby clubs, I coordinated the program delivery at schools across the New England region. This ...tour was an eye-opener to the significant challenges faced by regional communities with drought, fires and recently, COVID 19. Being able to support these close-knit communities through wellbeing support, and empowering young people to manage their mental health was an enriching experience to understand what it is like to be a young person in New England. Starting a positive conversation around mental health is paramount in helping to change attitudes towards help-seeking and wellbeing, and being able to bring batyr to these small communities was nothing short of inspiring." 02.01.2022 Our Cheif Happiness Officer AKA Dr Happy, has some really awesome tips on how to help your experience on social media be a lot more enjoyable: Choose who you follow. Its important to remember its up to you. If a person or page is not adding value to your life in any way and especially if theyre causing misery on a regular basis then quite simply, stop following them Compare like with like; remember that much of what you see on social media is heavily curated an...d edited. That is, its probably the best of the best. Thats fine, as long as you recognise this and realise that no ones life is as perfect as it might seem, especially all the time Be and seek authenticity; dont just post your best bits but share, also, aspects of your real life. This means acknowledging faults and failings, and its hard to be vulnerable, but I guarantee that more often than not it will be worth it Limit your time on social media if necessary; use social media to enhance your real life, not to replace it. Take breaks every now and then to ensure you have things in perspective Dont ever forget that how and when you use social media is your choice. Who you follow and what meaning you take from you. 01.01.2022 One of the most important things to remember when we are going through a tough time is that we are not alone. It may not feel like it sometimes, but there is always someone to talk to and always someone who cares. Here are our top 3 tips for reaching out for support! Tip 1: Choose a person who you trust a family member, a friend, a teacher, a GP, a coach. Choose a time when you know the person you are reaching out to doesnt have to rush off and a place that is comfor...table to chat. Tip 2: Remember that the person you are opening up to cares about you. Be completely honest with how you are feeling. Dont expect them to have all the answers. Tip 3: Be kind to yourself! Reaching out and being vulnerable shows a huge strength of character. If you didnt get the response youd hoped for, reach out to someone else and keep trying until you get the support you need. Stay connected. See more
