25.01.2022 Reusing my corflutes from 2010 Federal elections. As an Independent I appreciate family, Inlaws and friends who believe in my campaign for the Seat of Cook. This is the third lot of corflutes for Torres Straits. So far thank you to Aunty Flora and Pamle on Senpol who will be making sure my corflutes are up on Senpol, Kubin and Badu. On TI and Horn Island thank you to Flora Majid who will be helping putting up corflutes around TI and Horn Island. Add thank you Bala Aven Noah taking up my corflutes for Mer. 21.01.2022 Reality check on how expensive rental market is on Thursday Island. Mainstream rental market is either influenced by local economy, location current market value of properties sold, land value, population and even unemployment. The local economy on TI is driven mainly by Federal and State Government presence and real estate is responding to this. Once upon TI was a thriving seaport with a very active pearling and fishing industry etc. Now over the past 20 years more so then ...ever before, it has become second largest government stronghold in FNQ to Cairns. Hence this post is to highlight the effects of government driving the rental market and industry responding to this. Note this is a 2 bedroom, 1 single carport, 1 Bathroom & toilet. For $1200/week on Gold Coast at Sovereign Island you can expect to pay for 3 ensuites, 6 bedrooms, swimming pool, double carport, etc... Unfortunately on Thursday Island, high expensive rental market is not influenced by the mining industry but by both Federal and State Government agencies...people looking for affordable rent on TI not happy. Although this service is in Smithfield, it is a service in the northern beaches of Cairns in State Seat of Barron. A service no doubt has the potential of impacting residents north to Ellis Beach onto Wangetti in the Seat of Cook. #BATZKESUPPORTSCOMMUNITYSERVICES

11.01.2022 ALP usually floods polling booths with union outer of towners, some from southern states or flown in from Brissy. Borders open up to some southern postcodes ...This is the only way union volunteers from the south could come into QLD... We had an influx of union guys at polling booths in 2019 elections so don't be surprised the same will happen at our state elections...... Hmmmmmm

02.01.2022 Good to meet up with Peter Campion Independent Candidate for Hill. Will be meeting up with Peter again to talk about some of the Cross electorate issues between Cook and Hill. On the subject of a seperate state in NQ: We also must understand ideas or dialogue around a seperate state will not go away. ... In 2011 when the North Queensland Party Inc. (NQP) was established and Beatrice Booth resigned from Qld Chambers of Commerce & Industry and took up the role as NQP President. Beatrice was given the responsibility to head up NQP and establish its membership base so NQP could be registered in time for next state elections. Both Emma and I accompanied Beatrice on various road trips around the region talking to public about NQP, but unfortunately registration of NQP did not happen... At the end of the day, we must be open to discussions around the continual neglect of our infrastructure needs in the north. Torres Strait Islanders have had on their radar greater autonomy for the region, for the past 24 years. Something our business was heavily involved in as consultants, working with the National Secretariat of Mainland Torres Strait Island Organisations in 1997 onwards, to assist in formulating TSI position on 'Grester Autonomy'. Infact becoming a seperate Territory from QLD in the Torres Straits was part of discussions first entered into by Mainland Torres Strait Islanders in 1996/ 1997, in response to John Howard's LNP government's 'NEW DEAL for Torres Strait Islanders'... Whether it's a seperate Territory for Torres Straits but inclusive of Cape York, or a seperate FNQ State from Rocky North, it is a topic we can not ignore... #BATZKESUPPORTSGREATERAUTONONY #BATZKE4COOK

01.01.2022 Hmmmm Qld ALP government purchased Seaswift in 2019 under its Queensland Investment Corporation (QIC) arm, for a mere $300million.... Yet Torres Shire Council requests for more $$'s to help maintain roads on TI and Horn Island and funds for a new jetty on Prince of Wales, have all been ignored..... One would have expected freight to be cheaper with Govt now being the new owners but no, cost of freight has increased...... ... Government is now monopolizing freight market and at the same time our communities are being burdened with excess freight costs....
