21.01.2022 FRASER COAST REGIONAL COUNCIL MEDIA RELEASE 9 November 2020 Walking tours resume and local attractions open for longer Free guided walking tours of Maryborough resume today for the first time since March while local tourist attractions the Bond Store and Story Bank are now open seven days a week again. Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour encouraged local residents and visitors to sign up for a free guided walking tour to discover more about Maryborough’s fascinating and colou...rful past. Maryborough was first settled in 1847 and is one of Queensland’s oldest cities. Many of Australia’s free settlers entered through the Port of Maryborough between 1859 and 1901, he said. Maryborough captures this history in its beautifully restored buildings and streetscapes. The guided walking tour is a way of discovering the city’s unique character and historic sites over the course of an hour to an hour and a half. Cr Seymour said it was part of Council’s COVID Safe plans to progressively reopen attractions like the Bond Store and Story Bank seven days a week as restrictions eased and demand increased. We are able to open for longer as we are welcoming back more of our wonderful volunteers who help us deliver a fantastic visitor experience in Maryborough’s magic Portside Precinct, he said. The Bond Store and the privately operated Maryborough Military and Colonial Museum allow visitors to step back in time and learn about our military and portside history, while the Story Bank showcases Maryborough’s unique link to Mary Poppins and the magic of storytelling. I encourage both residents and visitors to check out everything that is on offer at the Portside Precinct it really is a special place. The free guided walking tours resume today and are held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays departing from Maryborough City Hall at 9am. Numbers are limited to six people per tour with visitors encouraged to wear enclosed shoes and comfortable clothing, and to bring a water bottle, sunscreen and a sun smart hat. Bookings are essential via the Maryborough Visitor Information Centre at City Hall on 1800 214 789. More details about Maryborough’s Portside Precinct is available at www.ourfrasercoast.com.au Anyone seeking more information and the latest advice about the coronavirus is encouraged to visit www.australia.gov.au and www.covid19.qld.gov.au/ See more

17.01.2022 Duncan Chapman - From Wikipedia. Major Duncan Chapman (5 May 1888 - 6 August 1916) was an Australian Army officer with the 45th Battalion of Australian Imperial Force during World War I. Chapman was the first man to step ashore at the Gallipoli landing on 25 April 1915. 11.01.2022 It was a pleasure to meet Lillian Coyne at the Tiaro RSL sub-branch this morning to present her with a special medallion and certificate to honour her service i...n World War II and mark the 75th anniversary of the ending of the Second World War. Lillian is a spritely 94-year-old and is the only remaining World War II veteran in the Tiaro Sub-branch and is the Tiaro RSL Patron. Lillian served in the Women's Royal Australian Navy as a writer, or in other words as a clerk, mostly as a member of HMAS Moreton. Lillian has spent almost her entire life as a resident of Bauple, and for a great many years was a volunteer at the Bauple Museum. Her knowledge of the history of the Bauple district is immense, in fact I’m told Lillian is something of a walking, talking Bauple encyclopedia. She has a great sense of humour and mateship. An example of that sense of mateship was revealed recently when an old WW2 shipmate became seriously ill and was not expected to live. The Sub-branch arranged a driver and she went to Brisbane in the RSL vehicle to share a few hours with a fellow veteran she knew she'd never see again. That's the sort of mate anyone would be proud of. So well regarded is Lillian in Bauple, that on her 94th birthday, a sizeable number of the locals staged a drive-past her home in decorated vehicles, while Lillian, dressed in similar fashion to the late Queen Mother, took the "salute". Lillian has been, and remains, a true gem, and Tiaro RSL Sub-branch is rightly proud to have her as a member and their patron. Also today, Donald Jones and Tony Pope were presented with special certificates acknowledging their 30 years of continuous membership and dedicated service to RSL Queensland. Lillian has also received a certificate acknowledging her 30 years of continuous membership and dedicated service to RSL Queensland. That’s 90 years of combined service to veterans and the community, a valuable and worthwhile achievement to be honoured.
10.01.2022 Save the date Bauple is invited to a FREE Christmas Party
09.01.2022 Many thanks to our Mayor George Seymour :) Thank you for promoting Bauple Museum. :)
09.01.2022 Tiaro Library introduce Click and Collect service Local library members can now pick up books and other items by appointment with the launch of the Fraser Coast... Libraries’ Click and Collect service today. The introduction of Click and Collect allows library members to access the collection by placing an order online or by phone 4129 2453 (Tiaro Library) When their items are ready, they can schedule a time to collect them, but members will need to show ID when they pick up their books, DVDs, magazines, audiobooks, toys, CDs or jigsaw puzzles. Library staff will be taking precautions such as practicing social distancing and abiding by the government guidelines limiting gatherings to 10 people or less Tiaro library reopened yesterday with limited hours on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays only and we ask everyone visiting them to follow the government guidelines for the health and safety of the entire community. Unfortunately newspapers, public computers or group activities will not be available yet, but the library’s free online services would remain available and had been well used recently with sharp increases in the number of people borrowing ebooks, eaudiobooks, emagazines, enewspapers and ecomics and streaming movies and documentaries.
