24.01.2022 Drowning is one of the largest causes of accidental death among Australian children - parents and carers can help reduce this statistic by safely exposing kids to more water play and obviously swimming lessons. Playing games in and around the pool not only makes the time spent more enjoyable, but can also teach valuable safety lessons. There’s definitely a link between education and playtime. Games increase fitness, improve a child’s swimming ability, and helps build strength.... For example, playing games that involve treading water for lengthy periods of time helps build swimming stamina. Similarly, water games that involve a lot of hopping in and out of the pool can also help build strength while teaching children about safe entry and exit of pools. Max and Jason love playing around after their lesson finishes - don’t ever underestimate the power of play. Valuable life lessons are learnt! A reminder that we’ve got our intensive summer holiday program coming up. DM us for details.

18.01.2022 Why not make the most of an intensive swim program that is running in January. You can sign up your child by DM’ing us. Paul Myers is passionate about children learning to swim. Growing up Paul spent his younger years playing many sports and around the ocean. With our country bounded by water and many inland lakes and rivers Paul believes all children should be given the life saving gift of quality swimming lessons.... He has a long history coaching, teaching and working with children and young adults in basketball, football, netball and now swimming. As head coach of @warragulswimmingclub Paul loves to coach swimmers and see them achieve their goals. A few years ago Paul identified the need for quality swimming lessons in the Baw Baw Shire. In conjunction with Dylan Muir (also a dedicated and passionate swimming coach) they have set up Baw Baw Swim School. The Drouin secondary College pool provides an ideal environment for children to learn with it’s varying depth and longer lanes children are able to progress quickly and spend a larger proportion of their lesson swimming. With small class sizes and no public causing disruptions children are able to focus on attaining new skills quickly. #paulmyers #bawbawswimschool #gippsland #swimprogram

14.01.2022 Excited but nervous about starting swimming lessons? It’s completely normal for young children to feel apprehensive about beginning swim classes, especially if being in the water is new to them or if they’ve had a scary experience in a pool before. ... The first thing to remember is that children’s feelings need to be validated. Whether we understand their fears or not, it’s important we don’t dismiss what they tell us or try to make them suppress their true feelings. You can reflect back what they say to you so they understand that you’ve heard them, by saying something like: I see. You’re scared about starting swim class because you don’t like getting your head wet and you’re worried your new teacher will make you get your head wet. Simply knowing they’ve been heard might be enough to calm them down. All of our swim teachers are listening to your children and will make them feel comfortable and confident. Thanks @rebeccalittle_ for capturing this photo of her daughter Charlotte who is having her first lesson back in the pool this morning. If you’d like to book your child in for a few lessons before end of term 4, please make contact and we will find you a spot. #swimminglessons #drouin #warragul

06.01.2022 How good is water confidence! To become happy and confident in the water children need to be in control. This means utilising ledges, ramps and steps. It is silly to rush the process and expect children to be comfortable in deep water straight away. By giving children the opportunity to independently play will not only leave them in control, but importantly teach them a respect for the water as they learn the difference between deep and shallow. Learning to swim and being com...fortable and confident in the water is a gift that you can give your child. Book your child into swimming lessons!
