25.01.2022 Locals to Gippsland who are interested in the urgency of local government to act on climate change may be interested in this local initiative from Gippsland XR Groups: Gippsland's Day Of Action: Saturday 3rd October We lament what is happening behind the scenes with the fossil fuel stacked, National Covid Commission Advisory Board and their gas-led recovery plans. But Extinction Rebellion Gippsland thinks it is time to encourage our local Federal MPs out from under the doon...a. We want them to publicly recognise the climate emergency and act on it, fast. COVID-19 is a scary, disruptive, global threat. And so is global warming. Overwhelmingly, the science says that our current concerns are nothing compared to the consequences of failing to act immediately on emissions reductions. The Federal Government is tinkering at the edges and continuing to support their fossil fuel friends over our future. We have designed a Covid-safe Action to highlight the alarm about climate change across Gippsland. We demand that our local Federal politicians Russell Broadbent and Darren Chester use their leadership roles to advocate for meaningful and urgent climate action. Please read the invitation at this link: https://xrgippsland.files.wordpress.com//darren-russell-ac The plan is for each protest group/individual to make, display and photograph signs addressing Russell and Darren on climate change. Post the photos to your social media with hashtag #Act4climategippsland or email to [email protected] To help us to send a loud and clear message to our two Federal MPs so they can no longer hide from public concern on climate change register below. Registration: https://docs.google.com//1FAIpQLSfqMMbT7vEiFtVYMZ/viewform Images of your protest will be gathered into short videos, collages etc and shared via social media and press releases to show that Gippsland residents want global warming stopped.

21.01.2022 In Flanders fields In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place: and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly... Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. John McCrae (18721918)

19.01.2022 households that move into a new all-electric house with efficient appliances will save money compared to an equivalent dual-fuel house. Banning gas connections in new housing makes good economic sense as well as being good for climate action. https://theconversation.com/san-francisco-just-banned-gas-i

13.01.2022 Don’t forget to register for our webinar this week! Upcoming FREE BBSN Webinar Thursday 26th November at 7:30pm via Zoom ... Join Environmental Scientist, Susan Koci & Chair of Preserve our Forests Committee, Marg Thomas discussing saving our local forests. In 2017 the Mirboo North community were shocked to find that significant sections of their precious native forests were earmarked for clear fell logging by VicForests. The community came together as one and voted to prevent the logging of one of the area’s major tourist attractions, the town’s amenity, and critical habitat for threatened species. So began a 3 year fight to save this crucial part of the once great Strzelecki Ranges. Join Environmental Scientist, Susan Koci and Chair of Preserve our Forests Steering Committee, Marg Thomas as they outline the campaign to preserve these forests including the work to protect the significant Greater Glider population and to record the high conservation values within these forests. This work culminated in the declaration of an Immediate Protection Area by the State Government in November 2019; effectively preventing logging. 02.01.2022 Support regional Victoria and take the #emptyesky pledge! Check out this terrific article from The Rogue Ginger Rural towns in Australia have been hit hard in the past twelve months. They have faced droughts, bush fires, and now COVID-19 keeping visitors away. As restrictions begin to lift and the weather warms up Aussies will be looking to plan their holidays, and with limits on international travel many of us will be looking to domestic trips.... Before Australia experienced the first lockdown earlier in the year my family took a short trip to regional Victoria and NSW, taking along our empty esky after coming across the #emptyesky pledge on social media. The Empty Esky pledge is to get people to visit townships and support small businesses affected by the Australian bush fires. Travellers are encouraged to take along their eskys to fill it with local produce and wares. I documented our road trip hoping to inspire others to holiday here this year and support towns in need of visitors. Read the full blog post here: https://www.therogueginger.com
