12.01.2022 On this day in 1901 Miller Reese Hutchison applied for two patents for what would become the first battery-powered hearing aid. The patent was granted on August 26 1902 but interestingly, two weeks earlier on August 9 Queen Alexandra used Hutchison’s hearing device at the coronation ceremony for her husband King Edward VII. The Queen later presented Hutchinson with a medal in appreciation of his invention.
