25.01.2022 What do you do with your scraps and orphan blocks, how do you sort scraps, and when do you cut the fabrics you love or no longer love? One answer to these questions is crumb quilting. Sew random scraps and odd pieces together, slice through the orphan blocks, or sew pieces together to make your fabric before cutting the pieces you need. Don’t sort, just sew!

24.01.2022 Have you been for a walk in the neighbourhood today? These blocks are from our summer challenge

20.01.2022 As 2020 comes to a close, let’s take a look at some of the beautiful work completed this year. Are you busy sorting your stash and planning projects for 2021? Best wishes to our members and friends

19.01.2022 Remember in January we asked members about their quilting goals for this year? One of Fiona’s goals was to make a quilt for her nephew’s fiancé who bought chitenge fabric while volunteering in Malawi and Zambia. Chitenge is usually worn tied around the waist. ‘African Woman’ measures 60 square, is machine and hand quilted, faced, and has a pieced back including selvedges to show the origin of the fabric. The woman is approximately 24 inches tall and inspired by an image on Pinterest. The surrounding quilt comes from the ‘Shattered’ pattern by Thangles

18.01.2022 Congratulations to Mary, whose quilt ‘Working from Home’ was shortlisted in The Festival of Quilts guild challenge. Made from a pair of denim jeans, linen and cotton fabric scraps, the quilt measures 112cm x 100cm. You can view more stunning quilts by visiting the website of The Festival of Quilts.

13.01.2022 Thank you to everyone who made baby quilts during the year for the Mercy and Sandringham hospitals. Last week Gail delivered a total of 70 quilts, including more than 20 Christmas quilts, to the hospitals and they were gratefully received. The continuing support for these programs is much appreciated.

09.01.2022 More than 75 members gathered on Zoom today for a presentation by Gloria Loughman. Underlying all of her work is a passion for colour and the ongoing challenge to capture the light. Gloria gave us permission to share her stunning quilt showing Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) Then it was time for a show and tell session

05.01.2022 Are there enough adjectives to describe Val’s stunning work in progress? Inspired by the work of Sonia Delaunay (1885-1979), Val is creating a series of wall hangings. According to the Tate Museum, the artist said of colour ‘One who knows how to appreciate colour relationships, the influence of one colour on another, their contrasts and dissonances, is promised an infinitely diverse imagery.’ Congratulations Val
