24.01.2022 A man has died, and a second man has been rescued after they were washed off rocks on the South Coast today. Just after 3.15pm (Sunday 8 November 2020), emergen...cy services were called to Moes Rock off Stony Creek Road, Jervis Bay, following reports two men had been swept into the water. Police have been told three men were rock fishing when two of them were swept into the water. One of the men was able to be assisted back onto the rocks. He has been taken to Shoalhaven Hospital for assessment. The body of the second man, believed to be aged in his 20s, was found in the water and has since been recovered. Officers from South Coast Police District attended and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Meanwhile, all rock anglers are urged to follow these safety tips when they venture out: * Always wear a life jacket * Make enquiries and check weather and conditions before you leave home * Observe first/fish later: watch your intended fishing spot to get an idea of the conditions over a full swell/wave cycle * Carry safety gear; head protection, as well as a float and line to help anyone else who might be washed into the water. * Never fish by yourself and always stand within sight of each other * Make sure you let family and friends know where you are going and when you’ll be back * Carry a mobile phone * Never fish in exposed areas during rough or large seas and be aware that conditions may change dramatically in a short period of time * Stay alert. Never turn your back on the sea * If waves, the weather or swell threaten your fishing spot, leave immediately * If in doubt, don’t go out * In the event of an emergency, call Triple Zero (000) immediately. Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence. The public is reminded not to report information via NSW Police social media pages.

13.01.2022 Domestic and Family Violence is a crime. It is well documented that domestic and family violence is a significantly under-reported crime and a complex crime for... police to provide an effective response to. For many victims of domestic and family violence they do not want to end their relationships with their abusive partners, they just want the violence to stop. Others require assistance from police and human services agencies to assist them in leaving their violent relationships. Domestic and family violence involves an abuse of power, mainly perpetrated by men in an intimate partner relationship or after separating from the relationship. It extends beyond physical violence and may involve the exploitation of power imbalances and patterns of abuse. The NSW Police Force is committed to using all lawful means to police domestic and family violence. This includes wherever possible: -removing offenders from the victim (victim safety is a priority) -taking out an Apprehended Domestic Violence Order (ADVO) on behalf of victims and any children living or spending time with the victim (whether they are by consent or not) investigating breaches of ADVOs - developing solutions to managing repeat offenders

12.01.2022 Police are urging the public to make safety the priority when in, on or around water this summer. South Coast Police District Commander, Superintendent Greg Moo...re said police do not want to see any more tragedies in or on our waterways throughout the holiday season and over the summer months. The key to being safe on the water is assessing the environment you are in and taking simple precautions to ensure the safety of yourself and others, Supt Moore said. Unfortunately, we find that many drownings and near-drownings could have been prevented by heeding safety messages. There is a reason our beaches are patrolled, so make sure you swim between the red and yellow flags. The same goes for our rivers, lakes and dams always swim with someone else, look out for one another and never swim under the influence of alcohol or drugs. We want everyone be safe and have fun this summer, so whether you’re at the beach, a river, lake or swimming pool, it is important to know the conditions and possible hazards that you may encounter. Supt Moore said it is also important to follow directions given by authorities whether it be police, lifesavers or maritime, and know your own capabilities. If you’ve been drinking, do not swim alcohol and water do not mix, Supt Moore said. We are urging swimmers to behave responsibly and remember that a situation in or on the water can change quickly and without warning. With extra boats expected across inland waterways over the coming months, police will be out in force to ensure the safety of all those that choose to enjoy activities on the water. Skippers are also reminded of their responsibilities whether you are in, on or around water, safety should be top of mind, Supt Moore said. As the skipper of a vessel, you are responsible for ensuring it is safe to go out and have all the required safety equipment on board. Police, Maritime and Fisheries officers will be out on the water conducting safety checks and will issue fines for non-compliance. Remember, the alcohol limit is 0.05 just like on land and with officers conducting random breath tests on the water, it’s safer not to drink at all, Supt Moore said. Tips for keeping safe in or on NSW waterways: At the beach, always swim between the red and yellow flags Read and observe the safety signs Ask a lifesaver/lifeguard for safety advice Always swim with someone else and look out for each other Always supervise children around the water Never swim under the influence of alcohol or drugs Learn how to identify a rip If you need help, stay calm and attract attention Always wear a lifejacket while boating or rock-fishing If witnessing an in-water emergency, call Triple Zero (000) for police. 10.01.2022 Residents across New South Wales are urged to monitor weather reports and health advice as the state is expected to experience heatwave conditions in the coming... days. The Bureau of Meteorology warns temperatures are generally expected to increase over the weekend. As the weather heats up, motorists are also reminded it’s not only an offence for children or pets to be left unattended in a vehicle, it can be deadly. Everyone needs to take care in hot weather, but some people are at higher risk of heat illness, especially if they are older, live alone or are socially-isolated. Remember to; Stay well-hydrated Avoid alcohol and hot or sugary drinks Limit your physical activity Try to stay out of the sun during the hottest part of the day Wear light, loose-fitting clothing made from natural fibres like cotton Regularly check your forecasts from the Bureau of Meteorology on radio, TV, internet or App Get advice from your doctor about whether your medication and/or your medical conditions may affect what you should do if it gets extremely hot Make sure you know who you are going to call (who may need help, and who could provide help to you if needed); make a list of telephone numbers and make sure they are current. If you can, it's a good idea to spend some time in an air-conditioned building. For more information please refer to the Beat the Heat website: https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/environment/beattheheat Livestock and pet owners are also being urged to ensure adequate clean water is always available and that shading is provided where possible. Additionally, no animals should be left in confined, unventilated areas. Members of the public should also regularly visit the Rural Fire Service website at www.rfs.nsw.gov.au for updated bush fire warnings and information. For updated weather forecasts and warnings visit www.bom.gov.au.
