25.01.2022 Thanks a bunch Anne. Thank you Anne for organizing a terrific lunch today The setting was perfect on such a spectacular day.the company scintillating and fun as is always the way when there are Baysiders aroundand the food was delicious.. All in all a wonderful day for Bayside Boules PC How we love these social occasionsand I have heard that Anne is planning the next one.. Way to go Anne.we are very pleased you are back to get us into the social whirl....of petanque and parties.. The only little hiccup was that everyone was having such a great time, talking their heads off, table hopping, joke telling, scoffing their scrumptious food, swilling the bubbles.and keeping a watchful eye on their mobile phones for the latest news. That we forgot to take photos..And we all looked so swish too.......scrubbed up very nicely.... Next time..we will.we hope. Thank you once again Anne,

25.01.2022 It's all 'go, go, go' at Bayside....Last weekend at Bicheno...and this weekend the Oktoberfest Mêlée....On reflection...perhaps two weekends of 'festivities' has been too much, as there were some very 'muddled members' at the piste today.....Some members arrived at the right time...ready for the fray.....some members thought it was a shared lunch....and brought goodies, some members forgot about lunch altogether, some members came LATE....."what? we start at 1.00pm?".....well... not today.......One lovely member thought it was the Melbourne Cup 'Fancy Hat' Mêlée and wore her finest....However.......Everyone had a wonderful day....Thanks to the new board for putting up the draw, given to Bayside by Claremont PC President Tas Mansfield, the scorers had a day without a mix-up.....That must be a record.... !! There was some controversy when the winner was announced...there were calls for a swab, a breath test, someone to check the scores and general disbelief.....as this stalwart member has not played for over six weeks.....(or has he secretly been practising???).....Hearty CONGRATULATIONS to Martin, who played brilliantly to win all three games, with an amazing delta score of +21.... Terry was second....but a long way behind Martin..with three games won and a delta of +14. Well done 'old boys'... Susanne was the winner of the 'Encouragement' award... Terry presented Anna and Simon with a bottle of wine for being the most successful Bayside players in the Crayboule Competition in Bicheno... And lastly....Peter W. won the Lucky Door prize.... In the midst of all this festivity Bayside welcomed a new member, Rachel....who watched the competition keenly.....Next time you will be in the comp. Rachel..... Thank you to all the members who set up and packed up...and Thank you Vanessa for taking the photos, and Anne for the photo of "Miss Melbourne Cup".... From the amount of noise on the piste, it was a very successful day...... And after the comp. was all over and done with.....members all played pétanque again....just for fun....Talk about pétanque tragic- one and all....

25.01.2022 Kathryn and her Uke group HUG sending Baysiders a performance to brighten their day..... Thank you Kath......you are the ‘Star of the show’... Enjoy everyone..... Tap the clip.....fingers crossed it works....otherwise it’s back to the drawing board...

24.01.2022 Bayside members had a great time at Cygnet’s Le Weekend celebrations. Lots of visitors ‘had a go’......learning the ropes, and members were also challenged to a ‘no holds barred’ match or two..... by those cheeky French fruit pickers....Oh for their youth and their talent. We had a perfect spot under the trees in Loongana Park....sitting in dappled sunshine, with flags and decorations fluttering gently in the breeze. French food and delicious coffee from across the road topped off each day.... Thank you to the sixteen members who came early in the morning to set up, looked after the public, played the challenge matches and then packed up......all with smiles on their faces - Baysiders are Beaut... Thank you also to Jim for the great photos he took and posted for us......

24.01.2022 Tassie Petanque Team hear us when we roar..... and roar we did, with pride and delight at the 2019 Petanque Federation of Australia’s Interstate Challenge, Over 60s championship in Adelaide. And why did Judy, Jenny, Margi, Simon, Peter and Terry ‘ROAR’? Because as the Tasmanian team (and proud Bayside Boules members) they were ready for the fray, eager to pit themselves against the opposition and keen to show the petanque world what Tasmania could do.... Being part of a r...epresentative team was an exciting but daunting prospect for Simon, Peter and Margi - absolute novices in national competitions. But they did themselves proud, overcoming nerves, fatigue and fear of the unknown. They played like seasoned champions, with confidence and panache........and of course with great ability. Judy, Jenny and Terry were with them all the way, encouraging, advising and celebrating and doing some incredible shots themselves along the way. The team trained assiduously for six weeks before the competition, practising and honing their skills, talking tactics and working out team combinations. The first round of five games was against Western Australia. Tasmania were a tight, skilful and cohesive team. They played with great concentration and confidence, supporting and encouraging one another and to the delight of the team won the first rubber 4 games to 1.......How absolutely fantastic. To their credit they played every round with the same passion. After each round they reflected on their play and rallied when they were down. Until, much to the amazement of the other teams, Tasmania had won every round/rubber defeating all comers. By the end of the first round on Sunday morning Tasmania could not be overtaken on the leader’s board......not that Terry told the others.....but the excitement was growing. They had the ‘bit between their teeth’ and played the last round with grit and determination - leaving the opposition open mouthed and full of admiration for this great team. What unbelievable joy and jubilation for Tasmania, 2019 Over 60s Interstate Challenge Champions......All tired legs, sore eyes, stiff muscles and aching backs forgotten now.......an absolute triumph and testament to Judy, Jenny, Margi, Peter, Simon and Terry.....for all their enthusiasm, sportsmanship, sporting spirit, hard work and sacrifices during the last few months. Team Tasmania.....you have done yourselves, Bayside Boules and Tasmania petanque proud.....CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

24.01.2022 Members have been wonderful, respecting Covid 19 restrictions to the letter.......so it was heartwarming to gather - still socially distanced of course, to have a gentle celebration for Bastille Day. A huge Merci to Susanne for bringing the most delicious cake.....white chocolate and raspberries.....and the best shortbread and cookies ever......How we all love your cooking Susanne..... Washed down with some bubbles, it was smiles all round for the Bayside gang..... Viva la France

24.01.2022 The ‘Beaut’ Baysider’s Gathering’ What a great was had by all on Saturday at the gathering.....Everyone came to have fun....and fun it was. By 7.01 pm it was so noisy the roof almost lifted. After all it was four hours since most folk had seen one another, so there was a lot of catching up to do. As is their want, members brought the the most scrumptious food to share.....and in the absence of staff (how dare our daughters leave home...!!!) they all handed round the platters, plied the drinks and looked after one another and themselves.... Kath and Anne entertained the troops, accompanied by Kath’s uke.....with an enthusiastic sing-a-long.......Queen Liz ‘of Taroona and all she surveys’ and Anna were the floor show.......with Running Bear a particular highlight.. Despite a hiccup - well a major hiatus actually, with the Boom Box, we eventually had some loud music to sing along and dance to.....thanks to Terry and his ever ready iPhone... The running commentary between songs by ‘Disco Tez’ was a trifle disconcerting, particularly as his shirt was hanging out.....but Terry had turned off his speccy blue tooth hearing aids and was oblivious to the cries of No more, no more.......Puleese So the night went on with everyone singing their hearts out....’Y.M.C.A.’ was particularly raucous, ‘Que Sera Sera’ was sentimental, misty-eyed and heartfelt....and ‘That’s Amore’ brought out the 'romantic' in everyone.... Thank you all for making the ‘gathering’ such a fantastic evening. Anne and Terry took the photos.....the quality and precision of the pictures correlates with the number of ‘ginseccos’ consumed.....by T......Anne was the model of decorum... See more

23.01.2022 "Didn’t we have a loverly time when we went to Bicheno...... Well yes we certainly did....!! Bicheno Pétanque Club’s gala pétanque weekend is normally held in June, but this year Covid 19 pushed the date out to October. This new date must have suited many people as when Bicheno Secretary, Rachel Etges sent out the call, 60+ pétanquers said Yes, much to the shock, horror and delight of the Bicheno PC members. Can you imagine the organization and work needed to get all those... people fed, watered and into games? Saturday will be known forever as Soggy Saturday. The rain was incessant, the pistes awash....and did we mind....? No we did not.. Everyone had the most wonderful time in the RSL clubrooms......enjoying boardgames, cards and in-depth conversations AND the most amazing food...Thank you Bicheno.....super sandwiches, cakes, slices, scones and sweeties to soothe the soul and thanks to President Nick, the best Paella ever. Thank you Nick for cooking in the downpour you are a ‘paella chef extra-ordinaire’. I don’t think anyone missed playing pétanque at all. It was a day of friendship, warmth and fun for all. Sunday, much to the relief of Rachel and her team Bicheno, dawned fine and sunny, and it was game on.... Rachel, with her Tournament Director hat on, went through the competition rules, the draw was done, the bell rang and away we went..... Triples teams, made up of members of all clubs involved were playing their darndest to win the coveted Crayboule Trophy......After many close games, some interesting ‘upsets’ and hard fought matches the final scores were tallied by scorekeeper Mike.....AND.....drum roll......The winner of the Crayboule Trophy was....Ted Huddlestone of Bicheno PC, with an incredible score of 42...What a result!! What a player!!! Congratulations Ted. Hot on Ted’s heels were Tilden Etges of Bicheno PC and Bayside’s brilliant bouler Simon McGarry, with an equal score of 40. Congratulations to Tilden and Simon.... We haven’t had a breakdown of the other scores as yet, but know there were some great results along the way....Anna, from Bayside won all her games.....Congratulations Anna you and Simon have done the club proud. If anyone else from Bayside won four games please let me know and I will shout it loud and long...... Once again Bicheno provided a delicious lunch of soup and sandwiches followed by cream sponges, cakes and other delicious morsels.... Bicheno Pétanque Club......Bayside members thank you, and salute you. You all worked so hard and for so long.....The kitchen team were brilliant, the members setting up outside were brilliant, your generous spirit, friendship and hospitality were brilliant.....Have a great sleep tonight.....reward for a job well done..... Rachel....head honcho for the weekend......Thank you. Here are a few photos....just to whet the appetite.....There will be more when our official photographer returns from her travels......You must all be waiting with bated breath..... See more

23.01.2022 Bayside held their AGM at the Taroona Bowls Club yesterday. Thank you Max for arranging the venue. Executive members arrived early to make sure the furniture was sanitised and covid safe. The Executive also ‘shouted’ members a scrumptious morning tea to say Thank you to everyone for their support during the year. Members were all very well behaved...no ‘tantrums’, shouting or car park brawls....Bayside members are a happy lot.... Here is a glimpse of all the fun during t...Continue reading

22.01.2022 What a perfect start to the festive season was had on Friday night at the piste. Oh La La & Co. joined Bayside members for an evening of food, music, petanque and bonhomie. The Oh La La people served the most delicious beef bourguignon and crepes - even supplying the plates et al............... The highlight of the evening was the 'children's choir' - they were absolutely beautiful..........Our bona fide Frenchman, Alain just loved being part of the performance. It made h...is night. And then it was all hands to the piste....and some enthusiastic games of petanque ensued... Bayside members had an amazing time......in fact some of them did not even come into the shed, they were so busy and happy socialising and playing petanque It was the most beautiful, warm evening.... weather wise and in the bonds of friendship. I know we all went home feeling very mellow and happy By mutual agreement. This wonderful celebration is going to be an annual Christmas event for Bayside PC and Oh La La & Co. See more

22.01.2022 What a wonderful day at the piste yesterday at Bayside’s Singles Championship. The weather was perfect for petanque, the gazebos and setup looked festive. Many thanks to Martin (who once again transported all the gear in the trusty old kombi), David, Simon, Margi, Peter H., Peter S and Anna who all arrived early to help. Susanne, Judy and Sue brought along delicious treats to share, much to the delight of the hungry hordes. Despite sharing the day with another minor sportin...g event a record number of members played with an enthusiastic cheer squad on the sidelines. New members, Anna, Peter and Di bravely entered into the fray - a daunting task when you are just learning the game... Well done! The random draw brought some interesting matches and much joy or chagrin when the pistes were selected ‘blind’ by the players themselves.....in fact one member was heard to moan, very loudly... Oh noooooo.... such emotion...such drama!!!! Games were hard fought, played in great spirit, and with gusto, panache and respect. After the round robin everyone relaxed in the spring sunshine while the scores were tallied, munching their lunch, enjoying the camaraderie, the banter, jokes and bonhomie......until....the four semi finalists were announced.....Tah Da....To play in semi no 1 - David and Alain and in semi no 2 - Judy and Jenny.........What??? No Terry? Congratulations to you all....and kudos to Judy who defeated the 2018 champion.. So the coins were tossed, pistes selected, supporters settling themselves in to watch the games of the day......The points see-sawed in both games, some amazing shots were played, only to be trumped again and again, until Judy and Alain emerged as the grand final contenders. Congratulations Jenny and David, you certainly took the games to the wire. The atmosphere was electric as the Grand Final began. The crowd was hushed, apart from gasps of admiration as all concentrated on the fierce battle being played in front of them. Both Judy and Alain countered every shot put before them, the scores levelling again and again, until Alain just edged ahead....the Winner. Judy Congratulations on a mighty fight and Alain......nerves of steel, determination and brilliant play - a true champion. Terry had some difficulty controlling the happy crowd during the presentations such was the excitement. After Alain graciously received the magnificent trophy, his ‘keep’ trophy and some goodies, Renato led a rousing Happy Birthday in his honour. What a week for the Pastres, a birthday and the Bayside Singles Championship.....Fantastic..... Thank you to Anne and Jim for the photos and David for making the prized ‘keep’ trophies, and to all the amazing Bayside members who make every event, be it big or small such a joy and such fun with your friendship, support and laughter.. 21.01.2022 It was an exciting day on December 7th ........the inaugural Bayside Doubles Competition. Members were furtive as they made up their teams, keeping their ‘secret weapons’ and tactics close to their chests......Many a sideways glance was sent across the piste in the days running up to the competition - checking out the opposition..... The weather was unpredictable but a great day was had by all......between the gusts of wind, the squally shower and the sunshine. Thank you to ...all those members who turned up at nine o'clock to put the gazebos up, and secure them strongly.......arrange the furniture, put out the bunting and then play their hearts out. A big thank you to Anna and Judy for bringing much needed sustenance to keep the weary players going... With the pistes marked and Tournament Director Terry addressing the crowd it was indeed a much more formal occasion than the usual Saturday arvo social session... Every game was hard fought....the scores not being an indication of the battles played out..... After the final scores were totalled, the top four teams were: 1. Jenny & Peter W. 3 games +8 2. Sue T & Terry. 2 games +14 3. Judy & Alain. 2 games +10 4. Sam & Peter H. 2 games +7 Such is the camaraderie and support amongst Bayside members every player stayed to enthusiastically cheer on the finalists, congratulate the winners and sympathise with the losers..... First semi-final: Jenny/Peter W. 6. Lost to Sam/Peter H. 9 Second semi-final: Sue T./Terry 13. Def. Judy/Alain. 5 Grand Final: Sue/Terry. 13. D. Sam/Peter H. 2 Thank you to Chris and Margie who sourced the great trophy from France, and to David for making the beautiful plinth - a work of art indeed....

21.01.2022 Social boules- Bayside Boules Petanque Club and Hobart Petanque Club Thank you Baysiders for making the ‘social boules’ afternoon a wonderful, wonderful event. Bayside members welcomed Hobart members with gusto......To see the piste full of happy players having fun was absolutely fantastic. As the loyal Baysiders you are, you answered the 'call to arms' to make this day special indeed. With twenty eight playing members, five 'loving' supporters (WAGS), two prospective membe...rs and two visitors, what a "Bayside" spectacle it was. Thank you to the Executive Committee for bringing the delectable nibbles and to the members who added to the bounty with their delicious offerings......The "fizz" flowed......we even had to resort to using paper cups.......albeit very swish silver ones.... Even after all the food (the table was absolutely cleared!!!!!) and all the bubbles, some people were keen to have a third and even a fourth game.....Just shows how much everyone enjoyed themselves........In fact Bayside's distinguished Secretary had such a good time, he was covered with dust from head to foot......Obviously lots of tramping up and down the piste....!! The friendliness and camaraderie on the piste augers well for more of these meetings on the piste..... And here are some kind words from one of Bayside’s visitors..... O my very word, what a pleasure it was to play and chat and win and lose and munch and sip and smile, chat some more and to be welcome. It was such a lovely day. Thanks so much. That says it all......Thank you Min... So Baysiders, once again you have done the club proud....... And next week.....The 2020 Women's Championship....It is never-ending fun at Bayside... Thank you Anne for taking the photos....

Just playin’ in the rain What a soggy old feelin’ But fun all the same All after that win The scores go to Jim. To find who’s the winner in the rain.." What a wonderful day was had by all yesterday Despite the dreadful weather, Such was the excitement around the new JC Handicap Competition it was unanimously decided that the Show must go onand everyone was so wet anyway.what did a bit more rain matter. Thank you to Jim, who got this comp. going we stand in awe of your brilliance in working out and applying the handicaps..all with your wits and a pencil..and of course your mathematical brilliance. With the WAGS and HABS and the indefatigable supporters huddled in the gazebos.. yelling and cheering with enthusiasm from behind the plasticit was a noisy day indeed. The punters were all happy when Sue produced her tins with delicious sweet sustenance all needed the extra energy to ward off the cold Thank you to Renato for the brilliant, absolutely perfect perpetual trophy, and to David for once again making the beautiful ‘personal’ trophy for the winner to keep. How fortunate Bayside Boules is to have such talented artisans amongst us making, carving, sculpting, and painting our original trophies. And to the dedicated, brave, determined, enthusiastic, committed, loyal and mad members, who, without complaint..well not much complaint, played their games in such a spirit of camaraderie and fun.. After all the mathematical algorithms were done and dusted, two players had won three games each.Martin and Margi.it must be something about the M in the making of champions. With a greater delta score Margi was the winner with Martin hot on her heels in second place.. CONGRATULATIONS!! A huge thank you to those who once again braved the elements to set up and pack up all gear especially the very wet gazebos.. The only thing that was missing was the ‘mulled wine’ but who would have thought there was going to be a deluge. Thank you to Anne who took the great photos. You’ve all done very well. It was certainly a day none of us will forget.

20.01.2022 A record nineteen Baysiders, with a cheer squad of five, took part in the August Melee.... The gracious winner was.........drum roll...... our Alain......Congratulations!!!! Thank you to Susanne for the wonderful prizes...

20.01.2022 Another wonderful day on the piste......The Melbourne Cup Melée Bayside was honoured by a surprise visit from ‘Good Queen Liz of Taroona, and all she surveys’ with Prince Max by her side, at the Melbourne Cup Mêlée. Despite carrying a hip injury Queen Liz was determined to be amongst her faithful subjects to enjoy all the fun of race day. Her hat was a millinery triumph with decorations of 1st, 2nd and 3rd place getters daintily arranged around the band.....with the rest...Continue reading

17.01.2022 Sounds like an excellent idea...

17.01.2022 Thank you to Bicheno Petanque Club for hosting an amazing weekend for Bayside Petanque Club and Hobart Petanque Club. The weather was spectacular. Bayside members started the weekend with a great get together at Ginetta and Stephen’s holiday home on Friday evening. Everyone relished in the warmth of the beautiful fire as they enjoyed pizzas and delicious sweeties, and yakked away into the night. Thank you Ginetta and Stephen, once again for your wonderful hospitality - a...nd Ginetta and Kay for the sweets. Yum!! Saturday saw the piste full of eager and enthusiastic petanquers enjoying all the fun of social games. It was so raucous and noisy even the local kookaburras joined in with great gusto.... Bicheno provided scrumptious cakes and slices and bottomless cuppas...and a delicious barbecue lunch, with salads supreme.... What wonderful cooks they are... On Sunday it was a ‘no holds barred’ Melee competition with all vying for the prestigious Crayboule Trophy. Teams were made up at random from the three clubs and individual scores recorded..... At the end of the day the players on the top of the heap were: Terry (Bayside) +26 David (Bayside) +25 Reg (Bicheno) +18 Nick (Bicheno) +17 Everyone returned to the beautiful revamped RSL clubrooms for lunch and the presentations. Lunch again was a standout... Soup, sandwiches, quiches and sweets, plus a huge basket of fruit..... Nick, from Bicheno presented the prizes to the winners and Terry and Angela from Hobart responded on behalf of their clubs with fulsome praise and thanks for the fantastic weekend. Then there was much excitement as the raffle was drawn......Peter W of Bayside had the first pick of the table......and then almost everyone ‘won a prize’...... Finally tired, but so relaxed and happy Baysiders wended their way home into the sunset....already looking forward to next year’s ‘road trip to Bicheno’.... Thank you again to Nick and your incredible gang... Thanks to Anne and Peter W for the great photos..... As fb will only allow 40 photos to a post, there will be a Mark 2 Bicheno post..... which due to the vagaries of fb will appear before Bicheno post no 1. How Irish is that?!!

16.01.2022 "Happy Birthday Bayside"... Yesterday we celebrated Bayside Boules Petanque Club's 8th birthday. It is hard to imagine it is eight years since the club started with six members....and it is hard to imagine that it is 'only' eight years - we seem to have been together forever, such is the friendship, camaraderie, respect and affection within the club. It was the most spectacular day for our birthday celebrations and the much coveted Foundation Day Trophy.... The river was ab...Continue reading

16.01.2022 Thanks Barbara and Kim for this fascinating snippet of petanque news.... Never at Bayside...... A real melee at the Melee..... Efforts to turn boules into an Olympic sport have hit trouble after a brawl among Belgian and French players at the annual world petanque championship in Marseilles.... Ambulance crews treated the wounded after a three-man local team assaulted the Belgian trio that had just trounced them 13-1 at the Mondial La Marseillaise, which is being contested by 2100 teams. According to the Belgians and witnesses, the Marseilles players falsely claimed that they had won when they reported the result to the scoring desk. Alcohol may have affected their judgment, it was alleged. When the Belgians discovered the alleged cheating the Marseilles men were said to have turned on them, with supporters of both sides joining in the melee. They ran after us with their boules, a Belgian supporter told France 3 television. They beat the players for three minutes. We called for help but no one moved. One of the Belgian players added: Two of them climbed on to me. It was like a bullfight. See more

16.01.2022 Must learn how to publish more than one at a time

15.01.2022 So here we go.... Bicheno Mark 2.... Some more great photos taken by Anne and Peter... The only disappointment during the whole weekend was that Jim kept an eagle eye on the beautiful ocean, watching for any sign of migrating whales....all to no avail...Oh dear....next year Jim..... ... BUT...Kay and David H did see a seal and a pelican on a nest...Now that is pretty special.... Thank you again Bicheno Petanque Club..

15.01.2022 Thank you Vanessa for some wonderful photos from Bayside’s great weekend in beautiful Bicheno.....We have heard that Bicheno PC is already planning next year’s gala Crayboule Trophy......Bring it on......Baysiders are ready.....

14.01.2022 What a great celebration was had on Bastille Day. Despite the number of Baysiders away on holiday, many members were able to come along, bringing with them friends and grandchildren, plus our friends from the Wednesday petanquers, making up a very happy, noisy, enthusiastic crowd.. The weather was absolutely fantastic..the WAGS even managed to sit outside the gazebos and yak, and yak and yak. Thank you to everyone for the delectable foodthere never has been such an arr...ay, or such a variety of delectable morsels..The mulled wines magnificent, the soup 'souper', the sausages sizzling, the savouries sensational, the sweets scrumptious and Sue's Eiffel Tower cake.............? Classy, Crackerjack....Cowabunga!!! Before lunch players launched themselves into the relay games with great gusto and lots of noise.knocking down Madame Defarge and ‘bombing’ the Bastille .such determination and grit, not to mention rivalry, all to win a precious chocolate frog.or a mintie Led by Alain and John Hale from the Wednesday petanquers a stirring rendition of Le Marseillaise was sung toasts swilled and the ‘official’ part of the day was done. - Conversation was a-buzzing as everyone enjoyed lunch and mulled wine in the sunshine.the atmosphere was warm and convivial in fact it was so laid back that Terry had to sternly rally everyone around to have a few social games , which were played in Bayside’s usual raucous, bantering, fun filled manner.. Even as the shadows grew long and the chill started to set in no-one seemed to want to go home..such was the pleasure of the day. Finally it was ‘all hands on deck’ as the gazebos were dismantled and all the gear packed up and taken to the good old orange kombi.. Thank you to all the willing helpers..with everything that goes into having a day such as Bastille Day. Every member of Bayside puts in 100% - what a wonderful club we have!!

14.01.2022 Here they are....

13.01.2022 A mid Winter Melee? In Hobart? Where the mountain is wearing a mantle of snow? Well why not Baysiders? Friday saw us at the northern end of the piste....in the gazebo, ready for the fray.... Everyone was very appreciative of Sue's delicious rock cakes for a pre-match munch......then the plan was to play the first game..... have lunch and a cuppa.....and then play two more games before "Coffee Club" at Beach House Cafe. And then......the ominous sound of rain on the gazebo......... A huddle between the players......the WAGs didn't mind what happened, they were toasty in the gazebo..... The 'huddle' decided to go ahead.....and wet weather gear donned the games began.... Lunch plans changed as the 'huddle' decided to play two games......hoping to get through the three as quickly as possible.....And then.......while lunch was being hurriedly being munched.......Out came the sun and it was beautiful....Chairs were shuffled out of the gazebo and faces were turned to the sky.....Aaaaaah.... The last game was played in a leiusurely fashion, with lots of noise...and clapping, and cheering for some fantastic shots..... Christine K. turned up to keep the WAGs company...and amused.... At the end of the day.....Alain, winning three games, with a delta score of +17, was the WINNER, with Peter winning three games with a delta score of +13 just ahead of Sue who won three games with a delta score of +12... Pack up was swift as we were all hanging out for a coffee........Peter W. turned up to join us at the cafe.....and "All was well" in the Bayside world... As a post script.......The "new" position for the gazebo was terrific......it was warmer, less wind, better view and closer to the cars for ease of set up.....Now all that is needed are a few more seats, a barbecue and a fire-pit.....do we have any hope? 12.01.2022 Fourteen Baysiders had a wonderful weekend at Bicheno. The roast at the RSL club was deliciousand the fire was amazing. Bicheno PC has had a return of quite a few members so the piste was full on Saturday morning. The games were hard fought and lots of fun. 12.01.2022 Oh La La.....What a wonderful afternoon was had by Bayside Boules members at the ‘Fete de la Musique’ yesterday at the Hobart Brewing Co. in Red Square, Mac Point. The piste was bounded on one side by planter boxes, part of the ‘edible garden’ project and on the other by all the fun of the fete. The boxes were arranged to make perfect seating nooks - and viewing platforms for It was like sitting in a little bit of green paradise... Members basked in the beautiful winter... sunshine.....enjoying the ambiance, having a yak, supping cherry cider, tasting tantalising tarte l’oignon, quaffing quality quiches (sorry), coveting (s)crumptious crepes....and now and again having a lazy toss of the boule..... What a mellow time we had....the perfect way to start the ‘Winter’ season. Merci to Oh La La & Co for inviting Bayside to be part of the fete......I am sure we will be back next year.... See more

12.01.2022 Happy Christmas to you and to you and to you.... After many wonderful years in the old heritage shed, getting squeezier and squeezier each year, this year Bayside’s Christmas party was in a new venue - the CWA Hall in Lindisfarne, which was absolutely fantastic. For the first time ever Bayside’s Eastern Shore contingent did not have to traverse the bridge.. Hooray. Some members only live a block or two away....(and they were late!!). The ‘old boys’ were very happy not to ...be at the piste at the crack of dawn to put up the gazebos....!!!! Thank you to the set up team, the Blairs, the McGarrys, Susanne and Bayside’s Christmas Elf, Vicki. In fact setting up was so fast that there was 45 minutes of ‘sit around and chat time’ before the gang arrived en masse. Thank you everyone for the amazing food, the fun and the laughter. Good Queen Liz of Taroona, and all she surveys, with Prince Max by her side, was guest of honour.... And what a party it was....We ate, we drank (in moderation of course!), we laughed, we sang, we yakked and yakked and yakked.....and then we laughed some more. Santa made a visit....looking suspiciously like an ‘arbitre’, a rousing rendition of Santa Koala raised the roof....and the absolute highlight of the afternoon was Queen Liz’s Christmas Quiz. Good Queen Liz was very strict with the time limit of 10 minutes.... and anyone challenging her answers was to be thrown in the dungeons....at her pleasure. Pencils were chewed, heads were scratched until finally Christine K. and Susanne showed that they had listened well in Sunday School, with a top score of 15/20.. Christine was the delighted winner of a beautiful Christmas quilt, made and donated by Susanne. Then it was a magnificent clean-up, with all hands on deck, final goodbyes....and then wending home for a Nanna nap..... Thank you to the photographers, Terry, Vanessa, Margie and Anne....and to Margie for the absolutely fantastic Christmas decorations.... And THANK YOU to Anna and Peter for the magnificent, luscious, scrumptious cherries....not only for the table, but for everyone to take home... See more

12.01.2022 Over 60’s winners Tasmania

11.01.2022 On Saturday, a very special Baysider, Peter Hiller, was admitted to the honourable OBE clan. In cahoots, Susanne, Chris and Terry organised a celebration for Peter.. After the first game the table was clothed with flair. the magnificent birthday cake appeared, the sweeties set down, the platters perfectly placed and the glasses filled. The air was filled with cheers and a raucous rendition of Happy Birthday as we toasted Peter and drank his to his health with great aban...don...... Peter, in his response, told everyone that he had a wonderful speech ready to share, but because of his ‘great age’ he had forgotten every word.......so with the glint of a tear in his eye, Peter said how much he enjoyed playing petanque with Bayside and how friendly and supportive everyone is..... More raucous cheers as the candles were lit (with the help of many hands), the candles were blown out - Well done Peter it only took two puffs - (there is obviously plenty of puff in the old bloke yet)...and the feast consumed with delight. How great it is when a birthday coincides with a petanque session..... Thank you Susanne for the delicious birthday cake, Judy and Sarah for their cakes, Chris for the champagne and the Hiller family for the amazing platters....... Yum, yum, what a treat for us all. Thank you also to Jim for the great photos, and Terry for more of the photos..... See more

11.01.2022 Thanks to David (and Anne too I’m sure) Bayside members had a wonderful day and lunch at Frank’s Cider and Cafe on Wednesday. The weather was spectacular, the venue quirky and interesting, the company cheery, chatty, funny and loud.....oh we did have the best time...and the food was delicious. Members took advantage of the beautiful weather and wandered over the road to the Wooden Boat Centre, breathing in the amazing aromas of the wood being used....and enjoying the banter o...f the shipwrights... We were also lucky enough to watch a tall ship glide in and tie up at the jetty.....Under the watchful eye of the resident goat, we trudged up the hill to have a look at the historic St. John’s Church and graveyard.....where an ancestor of Chris and Max’s lies....It was very moving..... Finally David made Claire’s day by taking her for a spin in his sports car..... Thank you again David for a fantastic day and to Anne for taking the photos... See more

11.01.2022 Jim is first off the block with this Friday's petanque challenge.....I think his photo should be titled "Howrah extreme petanque challenge" by the look of the terrain..... Jim's message says "Coach I need advice on pointing with BACKSPIN jim"! And the coach's advice....."Two reds to warm up, if that doesn't help have a third...then every shot will look amazing ......as far as you can see.."

10.01.2022 Bayside Presidents come up TRUMPS......and hosted a great evening to welcome new members and celebrate the start of the Summer season... Current President Terry and IPP Chris cooked up a storm - even brought their own barbecues, and fed thirty hungry petanquers.....who had worked up an appetite playing on a very chilly piste..... One game was enough in those conditions and everyone soon made their way to the ‘good old shed’, which was sheltered by two gazebos, hoping to war...m the cockles......One member was heard to say Where is the ‘Summer’ season we are welcoming?....... Well we live in hope.... The tables were laden with sumptuous salads and superb sweets - Thank you members. The cooks passed around beautifully browned sausages, burgers and vege burgers...... Once everyone was fed Terry presented Bayside’s new members with their official ‘badge of honour’......much to their delight - I think!!!! So a very special Bayside welcome to: Vicki, Zandra, Kathryn, Anna, Peter and Samantha, who braved the ordeal of meeting the members and Paul, Laura and Di who could not make it.....but were there in spirit. Terry then presented Margi, Simon, Peter W and Jenny (in her absence) with a beautifully framed photo of the Tasmanian Petanque Team, a wonderful keepsake to adorn their mantelpiece and bring back such memories..... Judy was beside herself with joy when she received her photo today..... She cannot wait to get it home to display with pride. And then, would you believe it, then......we were treated to the most fantastic musical performance......with Kathryn playing the ukulele and Sue singing her heart out....and we all joined in......with the help of Kathryns song books.....we re-lived our youth and belted out folk songs, Beatles songs, Seekers songs and a vaudeville song - there was even a table dance or two...... Thank you Kathryn and Sue - everybody loved it....... Oh what a night... and there will be many more to come....... Chris.....Terry thanks you for your help - as in actually knowing how this day goes, and for your catering, shopping and cooking..... Anne, thank you for the photos AND the video...... Everyone, thank you for the delicious food and bounteous generosity. To the ‘set up’ team - thank you for your help, know how and strength.....and the ‘pack up’ crew.......WOW - the gazebos, tables and all the gear were packed up in minutes......Thank you... Friday night was Bayside at its best......fun, frivolity and friendship.........with great petanque thrown in for good measure. THANK YOU Baysiders for making this such a terrific night.

10.01.2022 Hamming it up at the Dandos' Shack

10.01.2022 It was the most beautiful Autumn afternoon on the piste....Jim and Linda brought ten visitors from Victoria and Queensland to join Bayside’s motley lot - to meet their petanque pals and experience all the fun and camaraderie of an afternoon of boules with Bayside. Everyone joined in with great enthusiasm and had no hesitation at beating the regulars at their own game..... How fantastic!!! As well two new members Zandra and Samantha and a prospective new member Vicki joined i...n all the shenanigans.......And the three young experts, Stephane, Victor and Bonnie thrilled us all with their brilliant shots. We watched with our jaws hanging open in amazement. How lucky is Bayside to have these experts in the club? Jim and Linda’s guests - apologies if I do not put your names under the photos......but at least you will have some ‘holiday snaps’ to share when you get home. See more

08.01.2022 Anne and David took themselves off to a beautiful isolated Channel beach to take up Bayside's Friday night challenge....They are both looking pretty happy....so it looks as though they are both winners......Who will take up the challenge this Friday? Go Bayside Boules Members..... A little bit of info......In their second 'Bayside Boules at Home with the Blairs', Martin was very, very worried that Vanessa was going to trump him again......He didn't know how he was going to stand up to the shyaking should he lose two weeks in a row.....but....Phew!! He managed to win.....by just one point....

08.01.2022 2020 Women’s Singles Championship Well what a day this was...!!!!! The gals fighting it out on the piste..... with the blokes cheering on from the sidelines........ The weather was perfect......the piste looked absolutely amazing , thanks to all the raking and sweeping by Simon and Margi......All those pesky gumnuts were GONE!!!!.......and the troops were ready to rollllllllll....their boules to ‘kiss the coch’. Congratulations and thank you to those who made the ultimate sacrifice and crawled out of bed for the early start, some even foresaking their second cup of coffee..... Your dedication to Bayside knows no bounds. Some players were initially rather apprehensive when they saw Terry in his official ‘arbitre’ shirt, particularly when he was waving yellow cards around to latecomers..... But all was well and the games got off to a great start..... Every game had an official scorer and a dedicated cheer squad......What great blokes we have at Bayside..... The round robin games were hard fought, many games going down to the line with a winning margin of just one..... Experienced players were trumped by new members, much to the delight of all... At one stage ‘Handicapper Jim’ was considering doing some ‘performance enhancing’ tests such were the upsets. After the round robin Christina was the only player to win three games....A fantastic result Christina.......Any other comp. you would have gone home with the prize!!!! She was closely followed by Margi, Vicki and Anne - winning two games each.....a formidable quartet indeed. Kay also won two games, just being pipped by a greater delta score. In the semis..... Christina 1 Anne 13 Margi 13 Vicki 9 GRAND FINAL....... Margi and Anne battled it out on an ‘open piste’.........surrounded by their fans and supporters..... It was unusually quiet (for Bayside) as everybody concentrated on the game playing out before them...... There were Ooohs and Aaaahs and gasps of amazement as both Margi and Anne put down some incredible shots...... Sometimes members could hardly watch as beautiful shots just missed ......and went hurtling down the piste..... In a match where the final score was absolutely no indication of how tough the game was for both players, Margi took the honours, 13/2. CONGRATULATIONS Margi......Back to back Bayside Boules Women’s Singles Champion......2019 and 2020! Congratulations and ‘Well done’ to Anne.....a very worthy runner up.... AND..... Congratulations to all the other Wonderful Bayside Women who played their hearts out.......and had great fun along the way.... Thank you to David for taking the photos... Next Bayside Competition - Anzac Day - Saturday 25th April 2020....

07.01.2022 .Didn’t we have a ‘loverly’ time when we went to Willie Smith’s, A beautiful dayto have lunch awaywith our mates from Bayside Boules, Do you recall the thrill of it all as we sampled the different ciders, Then along came the food, a-tastin’ so good..it was fun all round... The time moved along, and so did the throng, round and round the table, All swappin’ chairs, nary a care, yakkin’ so loud a raucous crowd, Swappin’ Claire’s jacket, oh what a racketthey think they’re all so fine.o., Laughing so loud, this wonderful crowd..Bayside Boules.. Yadda-aah-laddle-aah-aah-dah-laddle-aah-dee-lah-dah-day-day-day

07.01.2022 Two weeks into 'lock down'....and hopefully everyone is travelling well. We are all missing the socialising and the game. Hopefully things will be on the improve very soon.... In the meantime here are some great photos.. Vicki was not going to miss out on an opportunity to 'dress up'..so even though Bayside's St. Patrick's Day Melee was cancelled, she donned 'the green' - in fact Vicki is now Bayside's very own leprechaun....."Go Vicki"....you certainly bring a smile to our ...faces.... Vanessa and Martin were determined not to miss out on their favourite Friday night petanque and dinner......so had their own fun in the backyard......with the red checked tablecloths, wine and snags to boot..... Margi said the Blairs have certainly thrown down the challenge members....We would love to see your photos......playing petanque in 'lockdown'...... See more

07.01.2022 Friday Melee..... Friday morning was glorious, but as the day went on the weather became unpredictable and indecision reigned ......the only thing President Terry was sure of......the 'event' was not going to be cancelled.....even if nary a boule was thrown...... (as it was a "special" day for an important Bayside member)....... As it turned out, apart from some wind it was not too bad and the Melee went ahead....... There were some fantastic, hard fought matches and many ups...ets along the way...as players battled both their opponents and the wind gusts... At the end of three rounds the scorers sharpened their pencils and began to do the sums ....whilst holding on tight to the table, the score sheets, their hair and the prizes........all the time watched by some eager players, ready to pounce on any blunders, errors, miscalculations, cheating, omissions or transgressions... Once the players found that they had to pay $100 to lodge a protest their behaviour and sportsmanship was exemplary... (New members...please do not panic...poetic licence is being taken)... There was absolutely no doubt about the winner... Martin played magnificently, winning three games and with the most amazing delta score of +32... Congratulations Martin...that is the best score ever in the history of Bayside's Melees. 1st Martin 13/2 13/3 13/2 39/7 +32 2nd Terry 13/3 13/4 12/9 38/16 +22 3rd Peter W. 13/2 13/4 7/6 33/12 +21 A close call between Terry and Peter...but they were a bull’s roar from Martin’s magnificent score. And after the games Pleased to get out of the wind we gratefully gathered in the shed. To everyone’s delight Margie had the most beautiful cake and Chris some bubbles ready to celebrate Chris' significant birthday........We knew we were in for something special when Alain, Bayside’s French chef, shook his head after his first taste and muttered "that is the most delicious cake".....It was so rich and scrumptious that the shed was actually quiet as we supped and savoured - all that could be heard was "mmmmmmmmm"......"aaaaahhhhh"......"omg.......". With everyone in a state of bliss and very mellow indeed, the rendering of "Happy Birthday" to Chris was heartfelt, wonky on the high notes, and not quite in tune, ....but sung with great affection..... Margie, Anne and Kath took some great photos of the day.

06.01.2022 Well we thought as it was on our normal playing day and as the piste is just around the beach, we may as well join in all the fun......We are the ones in the red hats......

05.01.2022 Fantastic Jim......thank you

05.01.2022 Santa had trouble getting Terry's new toy down the chimney.....so he left it on the doorstep....Much to Terry's delight.... Thank you Jim for the great photo.

05.01.2022 Last week the Monthly Melee was cancelled because of dreadful weather. Rain, hail, wind and a chill factor of -6 degrees saw Baysiders cosy and warm in the local cafe scoffing lattes instead of tossing the boules....... This week the weather was spectacular and all were on deck to enjoy the day..... Games, as usual, were hard fought, spirited and noisy.....even the local magpies took flight to watch from the heights of the pine trees. At the end of the competition..... ... MARTIN SCOOPED THE POOL... Winning three games and with a delta score of +17!!! Anne and Christine tied for second winning two games with a delta score of +9!!! Terry, Alain and Jenny also had + delta scores.... Well done everyone.. Now we all know what a wonderful club Bayside is....friendly, warm, kind, generous, funny........the list could go on forever....until sadly, on Friday, we saw another side to one of our dearest members...... Martin, on presenting the prizes for second place to Anne and Christine, mentioned that there was a lovely diary set and a bottle of whiskey to choose from......Well poor Anne didn't stand a chance.....On hearing the word "whiskey" Christine was off like a shot, pushing Anne to the side, yelling "That whiskey's mine!!!" as she grabbed the bottle from Martin's hand......and we all thought she was such a lady.......Hmmmm..... And not only did Christine grab the whiskey she proceeded to have a swig.....just to see if she liked it.....It is a bit of a worry......Poor Anne is still recovering..... Thank you to Susanne for knitting the great beanie for first prize and for donating Anne's diary set..... See more

04.01.2022 We’re back. Still physically distancing, but it’s back on the piste for Baysiders. What a happy day for the hoards...The weather gods smiled and the first melee since lockdown was held.....the Covid Cup!!!! Luckily there were extra scoresheets on hand as members kept on arriving and arriving and arriving... There were some hiccups getting going as the scorer could not get her act together. It took three attempts to get the draw right and then six goes to find a pen which wo...rked. Finally the eager players were on their way......And how did they play? Brilliantly...obviously there has been some serious practice happening during lockdown. After two rounds there was a ‘pause’ for the most delicious afternoon tea, a cuppa or two and some bubbles to celebrate being together. Once again Baysiders you have outdone yourselves...As can be seen in the photos, there were the most scrumptious of offerings.....sweet and savoury, hot and cold...the table was so full the goodies overflowed on to the seats.....and were we shy about tucking in????? I don’t think so....Thank you Margi McG for suggesting afternoon tea....It was fantastic. Well after all that beautiful food and flowing bubbles did not slow down our players and the third round was hard fought, with many a surprise shot taking the point. With an enthusiastic audience of ‘SOs’ (formerly WAGs), and friends, there was much raucous cheering and applause urging their ‘favourites’ on... At the end of the day...the scorer, with new pen in hand, did the sums (with great difficulty after a couple of glasses of bubbles), and Drum Roll....., the winner of the Covid Cup melee was JAROD......CONGRATULATIONS!!!! With the amazing score of 3 games won and a delta score of +20 you left everyone in your wake....A worthy winner... Jarod was closely followed by... Simon 3 games delta +19 Anna 3 games delta +15 Terry 3 games delta +9 Alain, Chris, David, Mair and Bob won two games and Susanne, Sam, Vicki, Jim C, Sue T, Anne, Judy and Margi won one game and Peter S, Jim L and Di had a great time.... The ‘Cheer’ squad of...Vanessa, Martin, Kay, Sue P, Robyn, Margie, Christine K and Linda had a lovely day too.... Thank you David for the trophy, Anne for taking the photos, everyone for the amazing food....You all did very wellllll..

04.01.2022 Snow on the mountain, rain, gusty wind......just a normal Friday for Baysiders......is anyone out there having a throw? Well after much pondering Terry has decided it is much too cold on the piste.......so it is ‘table top’ pétanque instead....with a warming wine or ten.... Very pleased to say that Ma was the winner......Another one for the WAGS.... On further thought, this is the best way to play the game....

04.01.2022 Before I start waxing lyrical about the great day yesterday Mention must be made about the amazing, committed, generous (in spirit and in deed), enthusiastic, true blue Bayside members... they turn up early to help put up the gazebos and set up equipment, they sweep the piste and remove those pesky gumnuts. they bring delicious cakes and goodies, they have fun and make sure everyone is ok, they talk and laugh and play the game, and then they pack up and dismantle those ga...Continue reading

04.01.2022 Congratulations Judy..........National o60s Women’s Champion. You’ve done Bayside proud........

04.01.2022 What a wonderful day it was on Saturday 26th January. The Women's Singles Championship has never been so fiercely fought. All competitors played brilliantly, making their opponents work for every point.... The Australian Open has nothing on the Bayside women for grit, determination, camaraderie and sportsmanship. Every player won a game, with three players winning two games and one player winning three games....... How close is that? Only one game was a walk-over, the lowe...st losing score in all the other games was seven... . After the 'round robin' the top four women were: Anne - 3 games won and a score of +9 Margi - 2 games won and a score of +15 Jenny - 2 games won and a score of +6 Christine D. - 2 games and a score of +3 It was very exciting to see a new face in the semi-finals - Congratulations Christine... Anne and Margi were the victors in the semis.... In a nail biting final, with shots by both players so incredible they were almost beyond belief Margi just pipped Anne as the timer went..... Margi was the most humble winner and Anne a gracious runner up..... Congratulations to you both......and "WAY TO GO" all the marvellous Bayside women. You have done the club proud. It was thought that the men would play social games whilst the competition was going on.... but they supported the women with great enthusiasm (just shows how fascinating and exciting the games were) and 'manned' the scoreboards. Apart from a pesky sea breeze in the afternoon the weather was great - albeit a bit smokey. It was great fun in the scorer's tent and the cheer squad was loud, spirited and vociferous to the extreme... After the presentations it was a social game or two for everyone and then players and supporters wandered off into the ether to recapture their youth and listen to the Kravats at the Sandy Bay Regatta, enjoy scrumptious cake with the Christine and Renato, or go home and collapse after a very busy and happy day...

03.01.2022 Saturday saw the inaugural "Bayside Blokes Singles Championship"....... It started off as the 'Men's Singles Championship'......but 'Bayside Blokes' has a much better resonance......... The morning dawned glorious, the gazebos co-operated and went up without any trouble.....Martin, Terry, David and Alain manning the poles, the sides and the hammer..... and Martin's ever trusty orange Kombi carried all the gear - Thank you Martin......where would Bayside be without 'Blair's Tr...ansport Co."? We missed some of Bayside's stalwarts through travel and illness - and loss of memory, but most of our blokes were on the piste and raring to go.... As the draw was done clouds gathered overhead and the skies darkened, but the brave Bayside Blokes donned their jackets, found their pistes and on the whistle the games began..... And what games they were.....Every player put down some amazing shots.... And how some of the "giants" did fall..... without wanting to embarass them by naming them, three Bayside champions lost a game along the way......and some very new members claimed scalps....... How exciting it was..... At the end of the rounds the leaderboard was: Renato - 3 games won and a delta score of +17 David - 3 games won and a delta score of +14 Terry - 2 games won and a delta score of +11 Alain - 2 games won and a delta score of +5 The semi-final results: Renato defeated Alain 13/9 Terry defeated David 13/4 So it was Renato and Terry in the grand final.......and what a final it was......... In a matter of minutes Renato had Terry on his knees with a score of 9/0......... Terry reminisced on his former glory days.....drew a deep breath and started to claw his way back, point by point...... until finally he took the game 13/9.... Renato - Congratulations.....you played the game with such flair and joy.....you will be a force to be reckoned with in the future..... Terry - Inaugural "Bayside Blokes Singles Champion - 2019"... Congratulations....... Alain took 3rd place and David was 4th...... David 'congratulations' on soundly defeating Terry in round one. You had him very worried. In the Consolante, Martin and Peter took the honours, with Bob and Jarod taking 3rd and 4th...... In hindsight the competition should have been called the "Gentlemen's" Singles. All games were played in such a sportsman like manner, with competitors happy and humble to win and supportive of their opponents......and the losers gracious in defeat.... Thank you to everyone who helped set up and pack up - just before the rain......Thank you Susanne for sharing your delicious cake......and Anne........ "Thank you" for getting the blokes organized to take part in the comp. and for the amazing photos you have taken...... And here are the photos......Lots of them I know, and some similar, but they are so good I had to put them all in.......

03.01.2022 Queen Liz. Birthday greetings your majesty from your loyal Howrah subjects Linda and Jim. PS Keep safe , keep well , keep practising

03.01.2022 Thank you Jim, it was a great day...

Food, glorious food, Pavlova and strawberries, While we’re in the mood, Fruit jellies ‘yes more please...’ Bûche de Noël and cream...M..mm Canneles and cakes divine Oh food, Wonderful food Marvellous food Glorious food Baysiders you have outdone yourselves. How lucky we are to be Baysiders. For some reason not all the photos loaded on this post.... Will try again....

03.01.2022 What a fantastic day was had by all at Bayside's second Jim Cotton Handicap Competition/crazy shirt day. The piste was awash with crazy shirts as members tried to outdo one another with their ingenuity........ We actually didn't know whether to laugh or cry, or cry laughing at the antics of our fabulous members......from tip shop buys to dress up box refugees everyone looked amazing... On the "serious" side of the day......Jim, once again, did a fabulous job working out the ...handicaps......using algorithms which would leave most of us reeling. Members eagerly crowded around the notice board when the handicaps were posted to see just where they stood......with some being very happy to see their minus handicap.....and Terry a bit stunned to see he had to give everyone a generous 'head start'! After a quick maths lesson from Jim on how to apply their handicaps the competition was on its way.....Whoo Hoo.... At the end of the day......with Jim's new scoring system applied...... Anna Smith was the winner.......CONGRATULATIONS ANNA!!!! What a petanque journey for her.....New to the game.....the 'wooden spooner’ last competition and now the "Jim Cotton Handicap" winner..... It must be all those cherries...!!! See more

03.01.2022 It was a dreadful day weather-wise today...... We set up the 'scorer's' table in the BBQ shed and Kim cleverly rigged up a wind break with the club banner..... The brave members who turned up to play, had three hard fought games in the cold, often battling squally winds. At the end of the day, Alain and Kim notched up three games each.... Alain just edged out Kim for first place with a higher delta score...... so CONGRATULATIONS ALAIN!!!!! ... BAYSIDE BOULE'S CLUB CHAMPION 2018 And CONGRATULATIONS to Kim, a very worthy 'Runner Up'. After the presentations we all went to the shed for the ceremonial cutting of the magnificent cake made by Club Champion Alain......and a rowdy rendering of "Happy Birthday"......... with unlit candles because of the wind.... During this time we were joined by four more Baysiders who had completely forgotten that there was an early start.....Oh dear........ Next time we are going to write the time on their hands.....like Mum used to do....... Sensible folk we are, we decided it was far too cold to dine in the shed, so with fond farewells, hugs and final yelled salutations to Alain, we went home to the warm and a 'nice cuppa tea'.......

02.01.2022 HAPPY BIRTHDAY BAYSIDE!!! It is hard to believe it is Bayside’s 7th birthday.....We seem to have been going forever, such are the friendships, the affection, the loyalty and the camaraderie amongst members. Yesterday’s celebrations started off with a melee to decide the Foundation Day Champion......A meltdown at the scoring table saw algorithms go awry, with the draw for round 1 having to be done three times......Players were very patient as Sam oversaw the final draw, mak...ing sure selections were absolutely random.. Once the round started it was all go......with hard fought games and a few surprises along the way. Rounds two and three went smoothly - the organisers had their act together after some quiet meditative time during round one....Thank goodness!!!!!!....They were ready to hand the job over... Winning three games Peter W. was the big winner on the day. Second place was determined by delta scores with many members winning two games... After the games it was party time with bubbles, a beautiful birthday cake - thank you Susanne and scrumptious sweeties and cakes brought by members.... Everyone toasted Bayside Boules with great enthusiasm, Terry cut the birthday cake to a resounding Happy Birthday , and the feast began.... We were feeling very mellow and replete as Terry presented Peter with the magnificent Foundation Day trophy. Congratulations Peter.....a very worthy champion... And then it was ‘clean up’ and ‘pack away’......a tricky job after a champagne or two and the gusty wind starting to play havoc...Finally, after all hands on deck, all was pristine and fond farewells were wafting across the piste as we wended our way home for a restorative cup of tea......Another great day for Bayside....... Next event? The Bayside Doubles on December 7th.....Bring it on!!!! Many thanks to the amazing cooks who brought the goodies - Yum!!!! Thank you to Bayside’s official photographer Anne for the great photos.. See more

02.01.2022 In the true spirit of the Anzacs Baysiders battled the elements on Friday to play in the Anzac Day Melee. Martin, Simon, Margi and Terry battled to secure the gazebo next to the bbq shed, which was also ‘wrapped’ with screens to give some shelter. The bbqs were wonderful ‘hand warmers’ between games. Despite winds almost lifting the gazebo, scudding rain and then moments of quiet sunshine before the temperature plunged, everyone had a great time.... To keep the inner soul nourished our wonderful members brought ‘hot crossless buns’, ‘honzacs’ and apple cake.......Thank you Sue T., Margi and Judy.. There were some ‘battles royale’ on the piste, brilliant shots being celebrated with shouts of joy....and mournful groans from the opposition........ Anne, you have some competition in the ‘piste dancing’ stakes, with Paul doing a mean ‘boogie’ as he celebrated a great shot........ At the end of the day the results were: 1st - Peter W - three games - delta score +21 (WOW!!) 2nd - Margi - three games - delta score +19 (WOW!!) 3rd - Terry - three games - delta score +13 (wow!!) Consolante winner - Sue T. Baysiders you have done yourselves proud, turning out to play so cheerfully in such weather...... Needless to say, once the celebrations and presentations were over there was a quick exit, everyone eager to be home, to get warm and have a ‘nice cuppa tea’...

02.01.2022 Look who Anne found at the Margate Museum.....another musical Bayside member... Fantastic Jarod- the ‘crowd’ loved it!!

02.01.2022 Bayside Boules PC is punching well above its weight in the Australian petanque world with three out of twelve members of the Australian Seniors Petanque Team, playing in the Trans Tasman Test Match in Newcastle, NSW last weekend. Judy, Jenny and Terry did Bayside proud and after two days of intense competition the Seniors team won the gold and hold the magnificent perpetual trophy for the next year. Much to the chagrin of New Zealand, the Open team also won gold.....so it was Aussie, Aussie, Aussie....Oy! Oy! Oy! all the way to the winner’s podium...... It is the first time since 2007 that both teams have won the gold at the same time........

02.01.2022 And here is the 2019 Women’s National o60s Singles Champion, Judy Whiteaker in action - showing her winning style..... Congratulations Judy.....

02.01.2022 And another photo of Bayside’s National Singles champion Judy, with her pal Victoria O’Connor from NSW, runner up..... Judy looks a bit happy...

01.01.2022 Leading the gang in sing-a-long supreme....

01.01.2022 Dear Robyn and Terry, Thank you both for all the work and organisation you do for all of us pétanquees . Even to the point Terry of going beyond what is expected in wearing that execrable arbiters top. It would be more in keeping as ringmaster at Barnum circus!! The highlight was Sue and her disguises of revolting faces. I haven’t laughed as much in years!! Once again Bayside knows how to eat drink and be merry better than most. Thank you again for all the work including re...serving our shelter in the morning mist!, What a wonderful Christmas party we had today in the 'old shed'......Thank you to Vanessa and Martin, Simon and Margi, David and Alain for braving the rainstorms and putting up the gazebos and arranging the tables and seating.....Luckily Martin had some extra tarps to cover the gaps...and as the 'room' filled it became very cosy.... Thank you to members who brought extra tables and to EVERYONE for bringing their chairs.... And the biggest "Thank you" to everyone for bringing the most delicious, scrumptious, delectable food..... The salads were amazing and the sweets sensational...... Another "Thank you" for your absolute generosity in donating to the Christmas hamper. There were so many goodies we made up four hampers and had multi 'lucky door' prizes... Through this generosity $150.00 was raised for Colony 47.......just from raffle tickets sold today. Queen Liz of Taroona and all she surveys drew the winning ticket.....HERS....what better outcome could we have? Many thanks to Anne, David, Terry and Kathryn for taking photos. May you be surrounded by love and laughter this Christmas .....Go Well dear Baysiders Stop Press......please so not be alarmed.....but the Christmas lunch had some very strange, but harmless gatecrashers....As it was Christmas we kindly let them stay on for the party...
