20.01.2022 I am pleased to introduce a new "Patient Optimised Pathway" smartphone app and wearable Garmin tracker for our patients undergoing Hip and Knee Replacement. The new app will guide patients through educational content, pre-operative preparation, a daily "agenda", post operative rehabilitation goals and also provide easy access to important contact information and frequently asked questions so that our patients are optimally supported though their surgical journey and enhanced recovery program. The wearable app will monitor step count, sleep quality and other measurable metrics so that we can closely follow patients' recovery from surgery. It will also allow us to set and individualised patient goals to optimise recovery from surgery.

17.01.2022 For patients wanting to try to delay knee replacement, or for patients not yet ready for surgery, a minimally invasive procedure known as cooled radiofrequency ablation may be of interest. Essentially, radiofrequency is used to desensitise the pain nerves and thereby reduce pain - much like turning down the volume on a radio. This is not a cure for arthritis or a permanent fix or knee pain, but the research shows that it can provide 1 year+ of symptom improvement, is superior to injections, and can be repeated. 15.01.2022 Orthopaedic Telehealth Bulk-Billed (no charge) Appointments now available: To assist patients during the Covid-19 quarantine, we are pleased to offer patients the option of a safe and convenient Bulk-Billed Telehealth (Videoconference) consultation. While there is currently a temporary pause on elective surgery, access to a bulk-billed (no out of pocket charge) consultation gives patients access to an orthopaedic surgeon for assessment, diagnosis, advice on non-operative pain... management strategies and commencement of "prehab" for those who are likely to need surgery once elective surgery recommences. Mr Freedman's practice focus is Hip and Knee Arthritis. Common surgeries include Anterior Approach Hip Replacement and Patient-Specific Instrumentation (PSI) Partial and Total Knee Replacement. To access a bulk-billed appointment you will need to have a valid medicare card and GP referral. Many GP clinics are themselves offering Telehealth/phone consultations to provide referrals where appropriate. Our Telehealth platform is simple and easy to use and our staff will be able to direct you through using it. To schedule a Telehealth consult please contact our office on 9532 3333 and request "Telehealth" when scheduling your appointment.

12.01.2022 I'm pleased to introduce a new pilot program in which patients who have Hip or Knee Replacement through my practice will be provided with a fitness "wearable" to wear pre-op and then for 12 months post surgery. Through real-time prospective monitoring of the patient journey through joint replacement surgery we will be able to monitor changes in activity ability and exercise participation but also other quality of life variables as sleep quality. Through continuous monitoring of patient progress we also aim to develop an "early alert" system for any patients who are not tracking according to expectations and who may benefit from early physiotherapy intervention. Exciting times. #kneereplacement #hipreplacement #ERAS #bigdata #fitbit #garmin #hip #knee #kneesurgery #recovery #orthopaedic

01.01.2022 For patients with arthritis who are not good candidates for surgery (e.g. due to serious medical problems that could potentially make surgery risky or because the arthritis is not yet severe enough to warrant operating) a new treatment known as "Cooled Radiofrequency Ablation" may an option to consider. Essentially, radiowaves are used to desensitise the sensory nerves from the joint and thereby decrease the level of pain caused by the arthritic joint. This treatment has been approved by the FDA and has published supporting evidence of efficacy. I am pleased to now offer this through my practice. Please contact my office if you wish to discuss whether you may be an appropriate candidate. (03) 9532 3333.
