25.01.2022 STACK, ROLL, SIP, STICK! This week we picked the Kupz which are particularly great for toddlers and creative play.... Use them at bathtime for scooping, pouring, and floating. Stick them to windows, walls, tables, and floors for whatever creative ideas your child's imagination can conjure! Also a great and fun way to practice drinking from a cup. And for the littlest members of your fam, stick them that bit high up so they have to practice pulling themselves up! Have the mighty kupz made their rotation through your house yet? Remember you can order this and many other toys via our Click & Collect service.
25.01.2022 LOCKDOWN ACTIVITY ::: WATCH THE PENGUINS LIVE! Yes, we all wished we were at Phillip Island, but this is the next best thing. A great excuse to blast this on the big screen and share a moment with the whole fam.

24.01.2022 BTL is in the process of applying for Deductible Gift Recipient endorsement. Deductible Gift Recipients (DGRs) are organisations which can receive donations that are tax deductible. If a donation is tax deductible, donors can deduct the amount of their donation from their taxable income when they lodge their tax return. In the final step to apply for DGR endorsement, we need to make some minor amendments to BTL's constitution. As per ATO and ACNC requirements, we are holding a Special General Meeting (SGM) and invite all members of the BTL community to join and have your say on the amendments. Here's the official (and formal) invite: https://baysidetoylibrary.org.au//notice-of-special-gener/
23.01.2022 We believe the next six weeks are vital at getting the numbers down, so as of midnight tomorrow, we will close our doors and cease Click & Collect until Stage 4 restrictions are lifted. For all the info, check this post: https://baysidetoylibrary.org.au//08/04/see-you-in-six-we/ We've added heaps of final C&C spots for tomorrow, so if you'd like to fetch some last minute toys, head over online, put your toys on hold and book an appointment today. #baysidetoylibrary #baysidemelbourne #baysidecitycouncil
23.01.2022 TOY OF THE WEEK ::: SPIN AGAIN What is it? It's a stacker with a twist! (see what we did there?)... Drop the vibrant discs onto the threaded corkscrew pole and go ooooh as they spin fast and smooth to settle onto the reversible base (choosing how to set it is half the fun for your child!) What skills does it help develop? Encourages hand-eye coordination, cause-and-effect learning, motor dexterity; also, the vivid textures inspire tactile exploration and the vibrant colours reinforce visual-recognition skills. Who can use it? A fan favourite with infants, they can pick either the wobble base or turn it over for a solid seat. Toddlers can practice counting the discs while stacking and spinning as well as grouping: sorting discs by color, shape, and size. Why we love it? It's a spin on an infalible classic. Agus, one of our members, loves to pull the pole from the base and Alfie, her 18 month son, looooooves to watch all the discs tumble to the ground. Where can I find it? You can check the INFANT and COORDINATION sections of the library. For click and collect, if you are looking for the Toy# 11243 11107 11241 11278 11279
23.01.2022 CLICK & COLLECT STORIES : JO We thought we'd ask some of our members what they thought of Click & Collect. First up, Jo Clark, mum of three busy kids! What do you think about Click & Collect? We love it!... It is convenient, simple to use and easy to browse online at any time. No stress juggling the kids, while rummaging through the toys & counting pieces! Has it helped? It has definitely helped keep the kids entertained during iso! There is always such excitement when new toys come home. Its great to be able to swap them over after the novelty has worn off or hold onto our favourites! We have definitely utilised the Toy Library more frequently than usual great sanity saver! Do you have any tips when using C&C? The filters make it really easy to search. Filter by category, age or brand individually or use multiple filters to narrow down your options really quickly. **** Click & Collect sessions run twice a week, Thursday afternoons and Saturday mornings. Bookings essential. For more info visit our website. *** Would you like to share your C&C story? We would love to hear it! Email us at [email protected]
22.01.2022 CLICK AND COLLECT STILL ON! We would like to reassure our members that Click & Collect has been approved by the DHHS as a safe way for toy libraries to continue operating under Stage 3 restrictions.... Sessions remain the same as they've been for the past couple of months. Remember to book your slot online, put your toys on hold and then collect the fun. For more info you can check our latest post: https://baysidetoylibrary.org.au//click-and-collect-july2/
22.01.2022 CLICK & COLLECT STORIES: DAN, JOEL AND ALICIA What do you think about C&C? Click & Collect at the Bayside Toy Library is just easy! And safe. Both really important factors these days. Its so easy to reserve toys online & know weve found toys theyll like it also removes any stress from the pick-up. All drop-off and pick-up is done outside, and any toys are quarantined when theyre returned, which provides that extra layer of safety.... Has it helped with ISO? Kids love toys any time! Collectively, weve curtailed a lot of activities to keep the community safe. Its fantastic to keep the Toy Library a part of their lives, so they still have the joy of playing with different toys. Huge shout out to Sarah and the Bayside Toy Library team for adapting to the times and maintaining this wonderful service! Any tips? Weve made it a fun activity with the kids to search for and reserve the the toys they want. As a result theyre finding toys they normally wouldnt, and loving it. They count down the days until Toy Library Day! Ive done C&C by myself which ensures a very happy reception when I get home! ***REMEMBER CLICK & COLLECT SESSIONS RUN THURSDAYS AND SATURDAYS. PLENTY OF SLOTS AVAILABLE, BOOKINGS ARE ESSENTIAL!***

21.01.2022 How's week 2 going? We know that without borrowing toys, and having the kids at home 23 hours a day, it can be a bit hard to keep the little ones entertained! So the BTL committee has put together some "iso-friendly" activities (ie, you don't need to go and buy a container of craft items!) and we've compiled a list... and we vow to publish one of these a week to keep the renew the fun! Here's the first instalment, and if you don't even have time to open and read the post we'l...l be sharing some of these activities as separate posts. We'd love to hear your thoughts and ideas so we can share them in the coming weeks with the rest of the community. https://baysidetoylibrary.org.au//lockdown-kids-activitie/ See more

16.01.2022 LOCKDOWN ACTIVITIES ::: The Circle Rainbow Challenge Probably one of the easiest (and most open-ended) options for colour-sorting kids activities, the circle rainbow challenge gets kids to build a rainbow with whatever they (and you!) have at hand.... WHAT DO YOU NEED? Pick a category, be it toys, paper, clothes, lego you name it! The important thing is that there is at least one element for each colour of the rainbow. HOW DOES IT WORK? Put the elements all in a central place and let your kids order them in a circle following the ROYGBIV sequence (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet) WHO IS IT FOR? Sorting by colour increases visual perception, thinking and memory skills. Infants will love the different coloured toys. For toddlers you can give them a colour hint and let them build on top of that. Preeschoolers will love to remember the actual gradients/ sequence, while early learners could try and create their own!
15.01.2022 SPOONER BOARD What is it? It's a balance board.... What skills does it develop? Improves core strength & stability, balance, coordination, and gross-motor skills. Who can use it? Early learners will have a blast, practicing their surf/snow/skate boarding skills! But young ones can also experiment and try new moves, like the superman or sit 'n spin. Why we love it? Will get kids moving and it's a cinch to maneuver, with infinite options! Stand, sit, rock, tilt, wobble, wiggle, spin. How children play is however they choose. >>> Remember you can get this and thousands of other toys via our Click & Collect Service.
15.01.2022 This weekend we'll be at the front of the BTL selling all things toys! Come say to Mel and other volunteers prior to our reopening. https://baysidetoylibrary.org.au//11/20/its-garage-sale-t/
14.01.2022 LOCKDOWN ACTIVITIES ::: Shaving Cream Fun Sensory play is so important as it encourages fine motor skills, cognitive development, and uses all five senses. Even the action of squirting the foam onto a tray and then swirling it around with some waterproof toys can bring hours (or, lets be honest, minutes!) of fun. So here are some fun ideas with shaving cream that also work on cognitive development and fine motor skills. WHAT DO YOU NEED?... Shaving cream and a tray HOW DOES IT WORK AND WHO IS IT FOR? With one lot of shaving cream you can engage different age groups in the fam and play different games! Start by spraying the foam in dots to form a shape, then get your little one to trace over and connect the dots with their fingers while you talk about what shape it might be. Excellent for toddlers. Then, were left with some squishy, soft shaving foam to swirl and make our own shapes. Add in some easy clean toys for extra squishy fun. Preschoolers can practice their letter writing skills by smearing shaving cream on a tray and then using a skewer or just their finger to practise writing. PRO TIP: For those who would like less mess or have little ones who may be tempted to taste the shaving foam. simply put a snap lock bag and play while sealed! For more ideas check our website: https://baysidetoylibrary.org.au//lockdown-kids-activitie/
14.01.2022 LOCKDOWN ACTIVITIES - EPISODE #2! As promised, here's another list of ideas for you and your fam to do together this week. From bubble chasing all the way to shadow drawing, be inspired and share with us your pics! https://baysidetoylibrary.org.au//lockdown-kids-activitie/

13.01.2022 WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY BTL embraces anything that will reduce the impact on our planet, so the generation we are helping raise will be able to enjoy it.... Asking people to borrow rather than buy but yet have access to high-quality educational toys has an incredible impact on our environment. We want to thank our members and community for playing a part in preserving our planet. #worldenvironmentday2020
12.01.2022 Last week was one of our busiest with 110 toys being collected, and the good news is you still have time to get yours this week! During this period our Click & Collect sessions run every Thursday from 2pm to 5pm, and bookings close 24hours beforehand, so go to your online account and get picking! And if you just want to return toys, you don't need an appointment, simply drop by during that window and ring the bell.

12.01.2022 And that's a wrap... until the REOPENING! 09.01.2022 HALLOWEEN!! Although Halloween is likely to look very different this year, I am sure the kids will still want to get dressed up! Perhaps you could organise a treasure hunt in the house, or meet some friends at the park and hide lollies about? Let us know your ideas! There are still plenty of dress ups available, but remember you must book today in order to select an appointment for Thursday! Here are some BTL dress ups my kids have worn over the years - add yours below! - Sarah #halloween #borrowdontbuy #baysidekids
09.01.2022 LOCKDOWN ACTIVITIES ::: Bring to life a citizen of Spoonville! If you have been walking around the streets of Bayside you would have found a series of Spoonvilles. Theres even a master post on the bayside community hub that has the location of a bunch of them! WHAT DO YOU NEED?... - wooden utensils (spoons are great because of the face real estate, but Spoonville also welcomes knives and forks!) - glue - whatever you have in your house that you can attach to said utensil: from feathers to grass, fabric, twirls, old buttons the world is your oyster! HOW DOES IT WORK You set a craft space in your house (even if its the dining table, make it a full activity by creating the space!) and then get crafty! Sarah, our toy library manager, spent a full afternoon with Stevie and Indi creating the spoons and then walking to Sandy Village to place them there. WHO IS IT FOR? Kids all ages really. Toddlers will enjoy the mess more than anything else, preschoolers will be all about imaginative play and early learners can explore their creativity. And yes, fine motor skills will be practiced by all (including adults!) For more activities check our post: https://baysidetoylibrary.org.au//lockdown-kids-activitie/
08.01.2022 Yay!!! We are so excited to be able to open our doors again and see our beautiful members faces! We are working on HOW we'll be able to open and which are the additional COVID-safe measures we'll need to implement (numbers to ensure social distancing, etc). Check your inbox for a mini survey we'll be sending to members this week and watch this space for the opening date announcement!
07.01.2022 FEELS GOOD TO BE BACK!!!! Open doors 12:30! If you visit, we’d love for you to post photos and tag us!
07.01.2022 LOCKDOWN ACTIVITIES ::: CARE CARDS This terrible weather calls for some indoor activities! Go old school and make some cards for family, friends, or neighbours! Everyone needs a smile right now, and what better way to put a smile on someones face than a thoughtful card? WHAT DO YOU NEED... - Paper - Colour markers - Maybe collect some flowers on your daily walk? - As many or little craft stuff you have at home: stickers, tape, glitter go wild! HOW DOES IT WORK You set a time to create a card for someone you havent seen since lockdown began. This can be a day a week or if you want it to be a routine quiet time, you could also implement it once a day. Make a list before the week begins to whom each card will go to. Then drop it in the mailbox during your daily walk (if they are within your 5km radius of course!) otherwise two stamps should do the trick or you could even take a photo and send via text. WHO IS IT FOR? The whole family! Little ones will need a bit more supervision (and a hand to write recipient and address) but other than that, everyone, including adults, can join in! BONUS POINTS: if you have an elderly person living nearby, we can assure you they will love a surprise like this in their mailboxes!

03.01.2022 TOY OF THE WEEK: ROLLAGAIN MAZ What is it? Its a cleverly designed maze that plays on physics to bring an innovative twist on classic ball-run fun.... What skills does it develop? Encourages fine motor skills, tactile learning, cause-effect learning and exploration. Who can use it? Its a rad game for toddlers who are experimenting with cause and effect. Why we love it? 01.01.2022 MEMBERSHIPS & TOY RETURNS Here at the Bayside Toy Library we are all about supporting our community, so we believe during these crazy times kindness, empathy and understanding go a long way. ... In case you missed our emails and posts, we wanted all our members to know we have extended their memberships for an extra three months since March (when the pandemic began). This is so everyone can have a fair go at making the most out of the BTL and get used to using our Click & Collect service (sessions on Thursdays and Saturdays, plenty of slots available!) Also, if you loaned a toy a while back and you still have that toy at home because you haven't been able to drop it off or life is just a bit complicated right now, we would love to work with you to find a solution. Please get in touch with Sarah at sarah(at)baysidetoylibrary.org.au and together we will find a way to get those toys back at the library. Finally, if you haven't gotten around C&C, we would love to know if we can help you out. Would you like some extra tips on how to use it? Or help navigating the catalogue and picking toys? Each one of us, from our own place, should do our bit to support each other as much as possible. #weareallinthistogether
