04.01.2022 It's that time of year again! Wonderful, warm, Springtime Not only do we enjoy this warming weather, but the parasites do too! Through the cooler months, fleas slow down, and their larvae often go dormant and become less of a problem for our pets, though once the weather starts to warm up there is often a mass hatch of flea larvae and their population can quickly become out of control. When the warmth and humidity are just right, the flea life cycle can speed up, and thei...r growth from egg to adult can occur in just a couple of weeks (instead of months) . Ticks also enjoy the warm weather, and thrive even further when humidity is increased, though they can be found all year round in particular areas. Whilst we highly recommend tick and flea treatment all year around, it's particularly important to keep up your pets treatment through the warm months - for both cats and dogs! At Bayside we recommend Bravecto tick and flea treatment for your pets, available in a 3 monthly chew OR 6 monthly spot-on for dogs, and a 3 monthly spot-on for cats. We can even help you administer or apply Bravecto for your pet if you're unsure when using it. KEEP YOUR EYES ON OUR PAGE FOR A BRAVECTO COMPETITION STARTING VERY SOON What else can you do at home to aid in the war on ticks and fleas? - Vacuum indoor carpets and solid surfaces (like floorboards). - Vacuum furniture using appropriate attachments. - Wash bed linens, pet bedding and rugs frequented by pets. - Mow lawns regularly. - Clear gardens as well as brush, leaves and tall grass from around houses, gardens and walls at property margins. - Consider using a pest-control specialist to spray around the outside and/or inside of your home (ensure your pets are not in the vicinity) - Check over your pets coat frequently (daily ideally!) for flea dirt, live fleas or ticks. - Check warm, hidden areas on your pets for ticks (ears, genitals, bottom, in-between toes, in/around mouth).

04.01.2022 Please be reminded from 1 July 2020 owners of cats not de-sexed by four months of age will be required to pay an $80 annual permit in addition to the one-off lifetime pet registration fee. https://www.olg.nsw.gov.au//nsw-pet-regist/annual-permits/
