21.01.2022 ****IMPORTANT 2020 PROGRAMMING UPDATE**** ALL REMAINING 2020 PROGRAMS WILL BE ONLINE, FREE, & OPEN TO YOUNG PEOPLE WHO STUTTER ACROSS AUSTRALIA AGED 8-18yrs! W...E CAN'T STOP AND WON'T STOP SUPPORTING OUR COMMUNITY DURING THESE DIFFICULT TIMES! MY SHARE PROJECT October sees the return, of the 'MY SHARE PROJECT' _ a 10-week creative arts program, Saturdays 12pm-2:30pm. Young people who stutter get the opportunity to create their very own and unique SHARE (i.e., a poem, song, short play, dance, drawing, etc.) whilst meeting and spending time with other young people who stutter. Our talented staff help our young people bring their ideas to life in an environment of acceptance, understanding, deep-listening, and love. A platform is provided for our young people to share their thoughts and feelings however they choose, knowing that they have as much time to say the words they want to say, and that their voice deserves to be heard. The Project culminates with the opportunity for our young people to share and celebrate their artistic creations during a Virtual Showcase event attended by supportive and friends! Our programs help to build confidence, social and functional communication skills, and help form long-lasting friendships. ENROLMENT IS NOW OPEN AT https://www.sayaustralia.org.au/enrolment-cva/ Please email me at [email protected] if you have any questions about our online programming. Much love, Rich (President & Programming Director, SAY: Australia)

19.01.2022 Should words be taught by sight? The simple answer is ‘no’. It is important to understand however, that when children are learning to read using a systematic, ...synthetic approach they will come across words that have a far more advanced code than what they have learnt. It is for this reason that sight, high frequency and tricky words, need to be introduced, explained and decoded. For example: To teach the word ‘do’ 1.Tell the child the word 2. Explain that the ‘o’ in some words can be heard as /oo/ 3. Sound out (decode) the individual phonemes for the child to hear d/o Learning words with an advanced code, using this repeated process, will help children master them and improve reading fluency.
