25.01.2022 Morning tea time today with a first aid theme. A while ago the Shed received a heart defibrillator thanks to a Bayswater Citizens and Ratepayers Association. Some members have just completed training through St Johns including the use of the defibrillator, this training video was shown to the lads today to get them familiar with the procedures.

24.01.2022 The committee is meeting this Thursday to discuss how or when we can re-open keeping in mind we still need to comply with government regulations Please read the attachments for more details and you may realise how much work needs to be done to prepare for re-opening For example A 20 person limit still exists with social distancing of 1.5 metres apart and 4 square metres per person How do we choose 20 and what days. - Do we need to open extra days etc.... A covid-19 safety plan must be implemented and put in place, copy sent to the leasing officer and 1 copy to be put on display at the shed Another implication is with shared tools and how do we sanitise each tool as we use them, it will be up to members to do this It is not just a simple act of opening the door to re-open The committee is working to solve these problems so we can re-open I will attach the guide lines and the safety plan as issued by the WA government While the shed has been closed 4 committee members have been conducting maintenance such as blades turned on the thicknesser, new belt on the lathe, CNC machine being assembled, CNC control box assembled, clean and tidy up, machinery checked, drum sander re-papered, timber donation picked up and racked (in progress) etc. I will inform you of the committee meeting outcomes Stay safe -- Regards, Secretary See more

24.01.2022 A great project for the Bayswater Men's Shed members to be involved in, for some of the Blokes helping it was the first time they had actually "made" something substantial.

23.01.2022 The newest benefit for the Bayswater Community Men's Shed Is the installation of Solar panels to provide clean energy to the building. The Honorable Donna Faragher, MLC. officially turned on the power in a small ceremony last week at the shed. The system which is generating in excess of 12 Kw has been funded by a Federal Government grant through the Solar Communities Program and will greatly assist in cost reduction of powering the machinery in the workshop.... The "Shed" also recognises the support of the City of Bayswater in providing infrastructure to facilitate the installation of the system and also to Shed member Tony Green for his effort in finding the grant and following it through to this stage. 23.01.2022 FOR SALE. The shed has a number these shelving units available for sale. We can supply them in kit form or assemble them for you. The cost is $60 and they are in neutral colours. We summer about to hit why not get a new garden chair. Pallet furniture is fashionable and we can make furniture like this two seater bench and other styles to meet you requirements.

22.01.2022 Its the start of the new year at the Shed and we have started the machinery orientation program to ensure all members receive safety training for the use of equipment. Today's machine is the Compound Mitre Saw. on Tuesday 29th we will present general workshop orientation to members present.

22.01.2022 Hi Members We held a committee meeting 14-05-2020 and re-opening the shed was one of the first items discussed. It was proposed and carried that we do nothing till the next meeting which is on the 28-05-2020 when we will have a better picture of events and progress. ... 20.01.2022 The City asked us to make a toy box for community use near a sand pit. The box is shown below. One of our members, who is getting very close to his second childhood decided to try it out. We could not find enough toys for him so the City will requesting donations of toys to fill the box. Please advise the City if you have toys that you no longer need that would be appropriate for use in a sand pit.

19.01.2022 The Bayswater Community Mens Shed would like to thank the Bendigo Bank for their grant to help us purchase a new mitre saw that will help train members in the safe use of this equipment. Our Treasurer Tony receiving the cheque from Barry McKenna last night.

19.01.2022 Hi Members and friends, the following for your information, please be aware numbers are restricted and some folk may not be permitted entry if the number of attendees is reached. We are implementing a COVID-19 safety plan as per government regulations' so please comply or we may need to close the shed again? Entry through the normal door and EXIT through the roller door Sign the CONTACT TRACING form on arrival with name, address & phone number... Sign the shed sign in book and sign OUT upon leaving The kitchen will be a no go area, morning tea will be served by the roller door and one person will dispense the HOT water Kitchen resources will not be available (china cups, cutlery, tea towels etc.) Paper cups and plastic spoons will be available Hand sanitizer will be available throughout the work area Wipes also will be available to wipe down tools after use and tables Social distancing will apply 1.5 meters. 18.01.2022 After some discussion we have purchased additional machinery for the shed. We now have a drum sander, a new saw bench, a metal bender, a linisher and a small hand guillotine. Since the last equipment post we have purchased three mobile dust extractors and some industrial vacuums. The dust extractors and vacuums will help with dust control when we use our equipment. The next stage of our development is setting out these machines in a safe and efficient way as part of the revam...ped shed layout. A key task after the layout is to bring power to the equipment. Our solar PV will help by providing extra power to run this equipment. These pieces of equipment are the last of our Lotterywest grant. Again, we thank the Lotterywest for their generosity and remind our supporters that when you purchase Lotterywest products you are supporting non-profit groups like the Bayswater Community Mens Shed. 18.01.2022 The Baysie Rollers are excited to launch the Bayswater town centre's first Parklet, tomorrow at 10.00am. Supported by the Bayswater Community Men's Shed - "Inc.... and the City of Bayswater, the mobile Parklet will be placed in various suitable locations around the town centre over the next twelve months. It will be an asset to the community, providing a space for people to chat and sit a while in the town centre. Come and check it out on Whatley Crescent tomorrow! 18.01.2022 The men's shed was asked by Mt Lawley Primary School to refurbish so wooden toys for their kinder garden. No before photo was taken, just the after photo. We understand the toys may need refurbishing again from the use they are now getting. A small community project for the shed,

17.01.2022 So how does a community network operate? Morley Galleria shopping center is planing to carry out some redevelopment, they have a storage facility in part of ...the complex that is scheduled for demolition and its full of "junk" that they need to get rid of. The center asks the Bayswater Men's shed if they can use any thing, We go an have a look around and identify items we can use, as well, I see some bits and pieces that would be welcome by other community groups I have interests in. My Kiwanis club supports Start Over Support (SOS) so we borrow their trailer and take a couple of fridges for them, at the same time picked up several items for my other venture the new Community Theater in Maylands for ARENAarts. The Kiwanis Club has hosted charity night events at productions run by ARENAarts with Bayswater Men's Shed and Start over Support recipients from the fund raising. The Men's Shed supported SOS in obtaining a community grant and provided assistance with the modifications to their storage facility and carried out repairs to furniture. ARENAarts have an agreement with SOS to borrow furniture etc as props for plays and donated other item back after the play has finished. I believe this is rather simplified as there has been many other interactions between these groups and a filtering through to other groups by association. Now this is Community interaction! 17.01.2022 Popped into the Baysie Men’s Shed this morning to catch up with members, where I met Lee, who joined the Shed only a couple of months ago. Lee crafts didgeridoos out of wood and plastic - and he plays them as well. Very cool!! #mybaysie #heartoftheinnereast

16.01.2022 At last the news we have been waiting for, time for a cup of brew. From President John Morris The shed will reopen on Thursday 18th June 18-06-2020 subject to our members complying to all of the Government restrictions now in place. If we are unable to comply then unfortunately the shed will close immediately... It will be different and maybe difficult however a little common sense will be all that is required.

15.01.2022 The Mayor Mr Dan Bull and the Deputy Mayor Mr Chris Cornish visited the shed this morning. During our morning tea break the Mayor addressed the men. We are fortunate that we have a speakers corner and the Mayor has a sense of humour. The cake and biscuits were ok as well!

13.01.2022 A merry Christmas and a happy New Year to all our supporters from the boys at the shed. We are having a little Christmas break to be with our families and friends, but will return on January the 4th. 2018

12.01.2022 Our Sheds temporary closure. As a consequence of the current virus situation we have closed the Shed for all activities in line with the interests of our members health. The management of the shed made this decision a while ago and followed Government and Men's Sheds guidelines. We will be monitoring progress and will re open for activities as soon as it is safe to do so. Meanwhile remember many of our members are of "a certain age" and a R U OK phone call is a way to keep in touch.

12.01.2022 Our shed will be closed from 12.30pm Thursday December 20th and reopening at 8.30am on Tuesday January 8th. We trust all will have a safe and happy Christmas as we spend time with our families.

10.01.2022 We have built a Bee Hotel after a request from a member of the public.First Insect Hotels now a Bee Hotel, I think we may have found a niche market for insect accommodation. Does anyone know of a good rental agency?

10.01.2022 The shed would like to acknowledge our generous grant from Lotterywest. We have been able to purchase a thicknesser , a planer and a sanding machine. Plus, a safety cabinet to store our paints and other flammable goods. Working with the men laying out the shed will be our electrician and Safety Officer to ensure that the equipment is fully operational and is safe to use. This equipment will be used by our experienced operators and over time they will train others in the safe use of the machines. Please be aware that buying only Lotterywest products provides these financial benefits to our shed and other community groups.

09.01.2022 A little late but worth the mention. The shed was invited to attend St Augustine Fair in November. We took to opportunity to display some of our pallet furniture and talk to men and women about the shed. We would like to thank the church for our invitation and their hospitality during the event. As potential members should note, we do not discriminate on the basis of height.

06.01.2022 Visited the Bayswater River Festival today and noticed the Bayswater library had a promotional stand, the feature was the two mobile bookshelves built by the Bayswater Men's Shed members, my contribution was very small but we all had input. It was great to see the units in use.

05.01.2022 Another example of our work. A small Jarrah table for that intimate occasion. We have plenty of Jarrah so if you want one, let us know. We can make larger ones for more than two people if required.

04.01.2022 The City of Bayswater recently upgraded their computers and has donated the old units to the Bayswater men's Shed. A small dedicated team of members has set about restoring the units for reuse by members and community groups. Parts are being salvaged from some units to be used in others. As the hard drives have been removed we will need to purchase new units and install them as work progresses.

03.01.2022 The Bayswater Community Men's Shed thanks the management of Calibre Group for the donation of desktop computers. We offer training in the use of computers including the internet and software programs. These computers will assist with this activity. Some of the computers will be offered to men who currently do not have a computer at home. We would like to take the mystery out of using a computer for men who have never had to uses one in their working life.

03.01.2022 Late notice, but the shed will be closed this Saturday March 30th for the Easter weekend. We will be open again on Tuesday at the usual times.
