05.01.2022 The GMA is conducting helicopter surveys across Victoria to monitor the abundance of game duck populations to help ensure duck hunting remains sustainable. The ...aerial surveys are part of a trial to test and evaluate the effectiveness of a new monitoring program design to count duck numbers on Victorian water bodies and beyond. Experienced wildlife biologists will be recording the presence and number of game ducks on wetlands, sewerage ponds and farm dams. The survey will be used in future to inform adaptive harvest management to set sustainable duck season arrangements. The surveys will take place from 6 November 2020 to 15 November 2020. Residents in the areas where the surveys will take place may see a helicopter flying at low levels for a short time. 04.01.2022 SSAA Ranges and Safety Courses We are all excited by the announced changes to lockdown conditions and the possibility of Melbourne based members getting back to... the ranges and the resumption of the Practical Firearms Training Programs (PTFP) for those looking to get their firearms license. Unfortunately, SSAA Victoria is not in a position to confirm a start date for the resumption of the PTFP course. This is due to the detailed directions not being released by DHHS. We will not receive this documentation until October 28 and then on November 9. The detailed directions will confirm the numbers that can attend a course and the range. This information is critical as it affects where and how courses can be conducted. As soon as we know that we can run courses in accordance with the DHHS directions, we will make an announcement and list course dates. For the same reason, we cannot confirm the reopening of our Springvale range. Until we see the details regarding how many people we can accommodate on the range at one time, we are unable to confirm opening times and who will be permitted on the range across the various sub-clubs and the public range. Once we receive the revised directions, SSAA Victoria will make an announcement about the reopening of the Springvale range. The Eagle Park range can still only receive members and visitors from regional Victoria. The Premier has stated that open travel between Melbourne and regional Victoria may be able to recommence at 12am on November 9 if case numbers remain low. Once we have that confirmation, then SSAA Victoria will reopen the Eagle Park range to patrons from Melbourne and regional Victoria. However, we do not know the restrictions on numbers that can attend the range. Once we have this confirmed on November 9 we will be able to announce when the range will be open to metropolitan members and whether a booking system will be required to continue. Prior to November 10, no bookings will be taken for the weekend starting on November 13, if required, for the main range. Each sub-club will be required to manage their own members based on the advice given on November 9. For all regional ranges, there have been no changes announced regarding the current restrictions - 10 people per 100m. Please contact your regional range to confirm opening hours. Presently, our office and the ranges are receiving a high volume of calls on the above matters. Until we receive the final documentation from the government, we will not be able to provide any further advice. The best place to find the latest up-to-date information is on our Facebook pages and www.ssaavic.com.au Regards, SSAA Victoria
