25.01.2022 The Scale Modellers Club of Western Australia is looking brighter thanks to a new suspended ceiling and LED lighting fast-tracked under the City's $5.09 million local economic and social stimulus package. The upgrade, fully funded by the City, replaced the club's former ceiling, which had been showing signs of ageing. Mayor Dan Bull and Cr Stephanie Gray visited the Noranda facility last week to see the club in action, making scale model ships and vehicles - with some models... taking months or even years to complete! Club president Kurt Fischer said thanks to the upgrade, the club and other local groups have a brighter space to work on their craft. With the air conditioner running more efficiently and new lighting using less energy, he said the upgrade has not only reduced the club's energy bill but its environmental footprint too. 25.01.2022 Next Wednesday, the City will collaborate with eight local service providers to hold the Community Anti-Poverty Reach Out event at Salvation Army headquarters in Morley. The event will aim to connect community members with advice and support from local organisations on how to navigate uncertain times. 22.01.2022 Il Gelato co-founders Giovanni and Lisa Calabro have been proudly making gelato for Western Australians for more than 20 years. Starting with a single shop in Leederville in 1999, they have grown to become national distributors and recently purchased a manufacturing site in Bayswater's industrial area. Mayor Dan Bull visited the new factory site this month to welcome Giovanni, Lisa and their family to the City.... 21.01.2022 Bayswater State Emergency Service (SES) now has a larger, dedicated equipment storage area thanks to an upgrade fast-tracked as part of the City's $5.09 million local economic and social stimulus package. The Bayswater unit is made up of 61 members who volunteer their time to support communities impacted by natural disasters and emergencies. Fully funded by the City, project works included extending the retaining walls and putting down a new concrete slab enclosed by a sec...ure fence, next to the main SES building at Clavering Road. Before the upgrade, equipment was stored in a small garden shed, which meant some items had to be left outside between training sessions. Councillor Stephanie Gray is a member of the Bayswater SES Committee and recently visited volunteers to check out the upgrade. Local area manager Alan Hawke said the group is looking forward to storing all equipment securely, allowing for better movement of vehicles and personnel during training and operations. 21.01.2022 We are thrilled to have won a national award for innovation! The City of Bayswater has today been recognised as an ABA100 Winner for Community Contribution in the Australian Business Awards 2020, for our Participatory Budgeting project. This project saw the City become the first WA metropolitan council to adopt a budget (2019/20) that had been laid out for community input and recommendations.... As part of the City's partnership with Northern Suburbs Community Legal Centre, our wonderful volunteers have made 400 hand crafted purples flowers for the Purple Road Project. 18.01.2022 From March 2021, the new Food Organics Garden Organics (FOGO) household waste management system will improve the City's existing three-bin arrangement by allowing organic waste such as kitchen scraps into your lime green-lidded bin The FOGO system will further reduce greenhouse gas emissions and waste sent to landfill, and furthers our commitment to mitigate climate change at our local level. As we change our waste collections to FOGO next year, we look forward to sharing ...recycling tips with you. For example, did you know that a food-stained pizza box can't be recycled? 16.01.2022 The City of Bayswater has been recognised at the LG Professionals Honour Awards for its Age Friendly Ambassador Program. The program is facilitated by eight passionate Ambassadors (aged 52 to 86 years) from diverse backgrounds, with support from the Department of Communities. Ambassadors do a fantastic job ensuring older people are an active and connected part of our community.... Engaged as City registered volunteers, the group links older community members to information, provides the City with feedback at monthly meetings, and is involved with place activation projects and community events. 15.01.2022 We've assisted the State Government in setting up a COVID clinic at The RISE recreation centre, 28 Eighth Avenue in Maylands. The clinic is now open as of 5pm today. Entry is via Eighth Avenue. The Maylands pop up clinic will be open from:... 5pm - 10pm, Monday 1 February 7am - 10pm, Tuesday 2 February 7am - 10pm, Wednesday 3 February Opening hours will be reviewed daily. A number of the possible WA exposure sites are in Maylands. We encourage community members who have visited one of these sites, during the dates and times published, to visit a COVID clinic to be tested and self-isolate until they receive their results. 14.01.2022 Yarran and Sophie are part of the Marawar Building Services team, employed by the City to paint some of its buildings. They spent Monday freshening up the Filipino Australian Club in Bedford. Sophie is currently completing her painting apprenticeship in Maylands. Marawar has painted a series of community buildings, including Hinds Reserve Pavilion, Noranda Netball Centre, Hampton Scout Hall, Roxy Theatre and Riverside Gardens toilets. 14.01.2022 Construction is set to begin for the first stage of redevelopments for the Morley Sport and Recreation Centre, which are on track to be delivered by June 2021. 13.01.2022 Bayswater Tennis Club is sporting a new shaded seating area thanks to an upgrade fast-tracked under the City's $5.09 million local economic and social stimulus package. 13.01.2022 In collaboration with Environment House / Perth Ecoshop & Sustainability Services , Transition Town Bayswater and Nature Play WA, we have launched the City's first interactive digital trail The Bayswater Foreshore Play Trail is approximately 4.7km long and features 15 waypoints, which include information about native flora and fauna and Whadjuk Noongar culture through text, visual and audio content. In line with State government requirements, the City will be recording the contact details of all community members, staff, volunteers and contractors entering its Civic Centre, depot, libraries, recreation centres, community centres, Rangers and Security office. All staff and visitors over the age of 16 years will be required to ‘check in’ at City buildings and community facilities. ... We're excited to share that Lyric Lane in Maylands will be open for its first night of alfresco dining from 5pm tomorrow, Thursday 3 December.... Starting tomorrow, the laneway will be closed to vehicles and open for alfresco dining and events on weekdays from 5pm to midnight, and weekends (and public holidays) from 12.30pm to midnight. So come along and enjoy an afternoon bite or cold beverage from local favourites Lyric Lane Maylands and Rossonero Pizza in a vibrant outdoor setting. 06.01.2022 Morley Sport and Recreation Centre is getting a makeover Stunning new architectural drawings of the much-loved facility have just been released, with stage one set for delivery by June 2021. Stage one includes the construction of two additional basketball courts, which will enable the State Basketball League to play games right here in Morley.... Kudos to local member Amber-Jade Sanderson who was instrumental in securing a $2 million State government grant towards the $5.5 million needed to complete stage one. 05.01.2022 Nikki Mauri from Bayswater is excited to hold a photography exhibition in her much loved town centre, made possible through the City's annual seed funding program. We have provided $29,000 to bring 14 community projects to life. Look out for a retro-themed bingo night and an art mural in Morley, community garden beds and street furniture in Noranda, and artisan markets and pocket gardens in Maylands. Our popular seed funding program has been running since 2017. It's part of our place making approach to improving our town centres in partnership with the local community. We have just installed an accessible vehicle ramp to the club's storage facility, to provide safe and easy access to heavy equipment.
