23.01.2022 The race that stops a nation came to Bayswater Gardens this week. Our female residents really rose to the occasion to compete in Melbourne Cup Fashions on the Green, with three beautifully dressed ladies as our winners. Cup Day celebrations included wonderful High Tea treats crafted by our kitchen team served with champagne. Sweepstakes were also held. The race was viewed on big screens and followed intently.

22.01.2022 This week we enjoyed our first bus trip out for a morning tea picnic since COVID 19. Our residents were so excited to be able to see the outside world in all its glory. We also enjoyed a relaxing afternoon with Jazz on the Green with entertainment from a Jazz duo, we love having live music.

19.01.2022 German Oktoberfest celebrations came to Bayswater Gardens this week. We celebrated with German food, beer, music and fun crafts making hearts which is the customary accessory for women to wear to Oktoberfest. Staff got into the swing of things dressing in traditional ladieswear called dirndls. We all thoroughly enjoyed the German music concert.

18.01.2022 Our residents are gearing up for Christmas with only a few more sleeps until Santa comes to town. They have been busy with Christmas activities from helping to decorate the tree, enjoying a Christmas concert, carols by candlelight, a Christmas party, to making Christmas wreaths. The festive season is certainly here!

17.01.2022 Another fun filled week at Bayswater Gardens as we head towards the silly season. We held our annual Pool Party this week and it went swimmingly and was enjoyed by all. We also had another bus outing to the park and due to COVID- 19 restrictions easing one of our residents was able to hold her first discussion group with her friends in the park beside our grounds. A very happy bunch of ladies.

15.01.2022 Eating healthily and staying fit is important at any age. As we get older our bodies have different needs and certain nutrients become especially important for good health.

12.01.2022 Today, and every other day, we are grateful for those who put their life on the line for this beautiful country we call home. At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them. Lest we forget.

09.01.2022 Our Executive Chef, Ashley, has created this delicious White Christmas Slice to share with the families of our residents to help bring festive feelings to your kitchen. Ingredients 500g white cooking chocolate 1 cup rice bubbles... 100g red glace cherries 100g green glace cherries 1 tsp Almond Essence (optional) cup slivered almonds cup shelled pistachio nuts 75g sultanas 1 cup sundried cranberries 1 cup (90g) desiccated coconut 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Method 1. Preheat an oven to 160C. Place chocolate in a metal bowl and place over a water bath on the stove to melt, stirring regularly. 2. Place both types of nuts on a baking tray and gently roast for 10-12 minutes; remove and allow to cool to room temperature. 3. Add all remaining ingredients to the melted chocolate and stir well until combined. 4. Line a shallow baking tin or dish with baking paper. Pour chocolate mixture into tray, spreading evenly into the corners. 5. Place a sheet of baking paper over the mix and press down firmly, to ensure there are no air bubbles. 6. Refrigerate overnight to set firm. 7. To turn out, run a hot knife around the edges. Flip onto a chopping board, then remove the paper. 8. Cut into desired shapes and sizes. Serve immediately of return to the fridge for later.

05.01.2022 As we age our skin goes through change. Over time, it will grow thinner, meaning it is less able to protect and rejuvenate itself. This is why providing extra care to your skin during the warmer months is so important.

04.01.2022 This week the residents at Bayswater Gardens got arty with making lavender bags, colouring in a bright tablecloth as well as taking part in an impromptu group sing-along led by a resident before our afternoon concert. Bayswater Gardens is pleased to announce that Pastor Norma has joined our Bayswater Gardens Family. Pastor Norma is an ordained Minister and Chaplin and is ecumenical to all faiths. She has been working as a Chaplin in Aged Care since 2009. Pastor Norma provides... spiritual counsel to people of all faiths without judgment, she states, my role is to comfort, to love without judgement and to make people feel valued. Pastor Norma will be with us every Monday and is always happy to come in to provide support out of hours to residents and families. If families or residents wish to speak with Pastor Norma please call reception and we will arrange for her to call/see them.

02.01.2022 A little slower pace for our residents this week. This gave us time to get back to our exercise routines. We enjoyed some group exercises as well as hitting the gym. We also took the time on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month for a minute’s silence to honour those soldiers who died fighting to protect the nation. The service was followed with a Remembrance Day BBQ lunch.
