09.01.2022 DO YOU KNOW THE SIGNS OF HEAT STROKE With the heatwave predicted this week we wanted to share our tips to care for your pet. Watch for signs of heatstroke in your pet! Collapse, excessive panting, weakness, drooling, red gums and vomiting are all symptoms of heat stroke - Call the vet immediately!... All pets should have access to shade and plenty of water. Additional water bowls should be left out on hot days. Damp towels can be used to cool your pet. Never exercise your pet during the hotter parts of the day - this is not the week to start your new fitness routine. Sunrise and sunset are the best times to take your dog for a walk. Steer clear of hot tarmac or sand. If it’s too hot for you in bare feet - it’s too hot for your dog! Never ever ever leave your pet unattended in a car or on a ute. Flat faced (brachycephalic) breeds have narrow airways, struggle to pant and are more susceptible to overheating. Don’t forget our wildlife! Leave extra containers of water out for birds, bees and smaller animals.
