25.01.2022 Project GTFO progress: Mounting plates for PDM, ECU and WBo2 mounted / fixed onto the car. All ready for wiring. ... Doesn't look like much but that's a solid days work of measuring, marking, drilling, fastening and testing * repeat over and over until complete. Would have been much easier to simply hide everything under the dash but I really wanted this to be super accessible in terms of servicing / troubleshooting / changing things. Since I'll be doing the work , I wanted to be comfortable doing it (in the seat ). Next up: - CDI mounting and E888 plus some.

24.01.2022 Another batch of Hydroblasting / zinc plating or powder coating on progress. EVO 123, GSR, VR4, RVR and GTO parts in this batch. Check out the AMG Galant intake manifold in raw alloy. Question is do I paint or not paint ? Previously polished but honestly liking the raw alloy finish.... Thoughts ? #Mitsubishi #Galant #Evo #GTO #3000GT #AMG #4G63

24.01.2022 TGIF: Objective for the weekend on the GTO. Mount the Autronic 500R CDI unit and MSD 8232 ignition coils. ... I had these from past builds so I’ll be putting them to use. Mind you, the CDI outperforms it setup right the commonly used R35 COP systems and the IGN-1A smart coil in terms of energy. Autronic CDI - 125.0 mj IGN-1A coils - 102.7 mj Nissan R35 Hitachi / Hanshin coils - 54.0 mj Just need to make sure leads are good and wiring is done correctly or my past experience will haunt me (trigger interference - which caused ignition breakdown) mitigating any benefits of the CDI. I’m keen to try again hence the re attempt on this build. Link to CDI testing Here: http://www.autronic.com.au/cdi_500r_video.html #Autronic #msdignition #mitsubishigto #backyardbuilds

24.01.2022 Galant VR4 RS engine bay coming back together. I'm even cleaning the rubber grommets and conditioning them before reinstatement. A bit extreme but why not? #galantvr4rs

23.01.2022 Project GTFO ignition system gets mounted into the engine bay. The original proposed coil location changed due to the height of the coil and clearance to the bonnet. I've once had an issue of the coil arcing to the bonnet when closed but fine when open. So on the dyno it was happy, but on the road it sounded like a WRX boxer engine. After finalising the mounting location which was determined primarily by my intent to keep it well away from all other wiring from the engine. ...Also spark plug lead length and ease of access. The decision was made to place it in the small cavity behind the left headlight. Works completed: Make base plate in aluminium. I mounted it sideways. Coils outlet to not be next to anything steel (rad support) as the arc tends to jump even with leads on so it was mounted hotizontally. Utilise OEM holes and threads to hold the plate to the vehicle. Make filler plate for improved asthetics Make support bracket below plate to reduce change to fatigue and crack over time. Incorporate the headlight upper radiator support shape into the bracket. Still to complete, CDI module mounting and cover plate. #backyardbuilt #4gswapped #racecarlife #mitsubishigto #msdignition #autronic

21.01.2022 Project GTFO keypads, ECU, WBo2 and PDM units mounted on plates. Still need to finish off the CDI, SLM and steering angle sensor mounting plate before I order the wires and connectors. Step by step.... Day by day...... Day. Night. Any chance I could squeeze in a task I will until completion. See more

20.01.2022 I think I need some pedals for this project. Any recommendations people ? What brands apart from the below do a full pedal set? Floor mounted. ... Wilwood PE Racing Tilton Engineering #mitsubishigto #4gswapped

18.01.2022 Snuck in some Cordia work and attached the shift rod linkage. Any Cordia owners on here? Share a photo of your ride!

18.01.2022 Project Cordia update. Hot side intercooler piping done. Oddysey PC680 battery placement to be on the passenger side. Custom tray and battery bracket to be fabricated. Wiring to be redone with thicker gauge cable. Power steering pump not being installed. I will be installing an electric pump on the Cordia which will free up some HP from the crank. Also clears up some space for a future turbo upgrade and big gate. ... RVR engine loom connected to the Link G4 Plug and play Evo ecu. Auto plugs will remain for future wiring of transmission controls. Fuel pump to be replaced in future. Surge tank placement in review. #Mitsubishicordia #4gswapped #Cordiapower

15.01.2022 Project GTFO Autronic CDI mounted along with the Moroso Accumulator. Trying to stick to my to do list commitments and tasks per day to ensure I complete this build over the next few months. Turned out exactly how I pictured it. ... Accumulator at the rear for better weight distribution. To be utilised with an electronic valve at the front so access to the valve is not critical. CDI is mounted as far away to other electronics to reduce the chance of electrical noise to the trigger inputs. The output of the CDI to the coils will be run completely SOLO. #Autronic NEXT LEVEL TM for CF panels. Hardwire Electronics Moroso Performance Products, Inc.

13.01.2022 Project GTFO dash mounted. Carbon fibre panel purchased from NEXT LEVEL TM and hand cut to fit into the OEM GTO cluster housing. Glue used to hold it in place. The MoTeC SDL is over 10 years old and was decommissioned from the Galant VR4. It is supported by the E888 and will work with the PDM via CAN. Ecu to dash will work via rs232. ... I'll sort out the Galant down the track when I get back to rewiring her. She was due for a wire refresh anyway.

11.01.2022 So I'm changing the direction of this cars build. I never really enjoyed the straight cut dog box, locked diff on the road along with the fibreglass seats etc. Never felt comfortable driving it (cops) and parking it. It exceeded the street car theme and I'm dialling it back a notch. ... What do you think I should do ? 1. Street car with stock manual transmission, 300kw / 400hp at the wheels, air con, all the Galant luxuries. Or. 2. Street car with a bit more power than the manual can handle so auto converted. 400 to 500kw at the wheels ? Pretty much as is but now with the nicer seats, it might be bearable. I would like to know your thoughts. I'll be removing the carbon parts and going back to full steel or at least painting it the same colour. Electronics have been stripped so interior will also loof different (no motec dash). Seats already Evo 8 MR. Engine specs have changed. Turbo I'm considering either a G series or something ive already got like a gt35r. 10000% smaller turbo this time... Or at least something that spools faster. Give me some motivation to get this one sorted!!!! Also tell me , what power do you have and do you want more or less ? When do you think it's enough power without too much compromise on street manners ?

11.01.2022 Project GTFO electronics and steering update. Dash support bracket fabricated which also incorporates the Motec E888 mounting location. Quick release steering wheel adaptor installed. Custom bracket completed for SLM and Steering angle sensor. ... Motec Shift light Module installed Steering angle sensor installed. To be done tomorrow. Autronic CDI mounting bracket Moroso accumulator to be mounted Hardwire PDM keypad brackets for mounting plate to be fabricated. #backyardbuilt #becauseracecar

08.01.2022 Project GTFO spark plug leads have been made and installed! These leads were repurposed from my old Galant VR4 setup and simply cut to length and re-terminated. Magnecor KV85 conductors are 8.5mm in diam and are meant to be the best. They were highly recommended by M&W Ignitions along with Autronic. Thanks to Performance Ignition Services - Scorcher Distributors for the work. ... Note: I'm yet to fabricates some spark plug wire support brackets to hold the leads up near the block and also a spark plug cover to allow entry from the bottom. #4gswapped #MitsubishiGTO #Becauseracecar

07.01.2022 My parts refurbishment process summarised. After the removal of the component, any small rubbers, plastics, fragile bits that can be taken off are removed and bagged for reinstatement after stage 3. Stage 1. Blasting the item back to bare metal. I use the sand blasting method for larger items such as K frames or trailing arms. Smaller items like brackets and engine parts are hydroblasted for a more gentle cleaning process. The medium used is accepted by engine builders a...s the medium breaks down very easily in fluids. Safe for engines. Stage 2. Nickel or Zinc plating of steel items only. Colour options are silver, gold, olive or black (dark olive). Alloy can be anodised or powder coated. I usually go straight to powder of colour is desired. Stage 3. Powder coating for a colour change and/or additional protection from corrosion. Great for almost all steel items. All threads are masked along with seal faces etc. The part cannot exceed 200 deg C or the powder will not stay solid. Note. Stage 2 is not necessary but recommended. Most will skip this step as it adds to time and cost. Overall, the process helps to not only remove dirt, grime, rust and oxidation from the original part but also mitigates future damage caused by the elements. The intent is to not only improve the appearance of the part and also increase the lifespan of the component being refurbished. Hopefully that helps explain the refurbishment process applied to most of my builds.

07.01.2022 Some good ol Galant VR4 history for ya. The OG !

06.01.2022 Back from the powder coaters. Final step of this process. Nickel plated > Powder coated goodness ready for use!... Some to go on a Jap spec galant and VR4 RS galant that's current in the process of being restored. #GalantVR4rs #Galantvr4

05.01.2022 TBT 2005~2007 When the AMG was a daily driven NA. When Dre still had his Galant VR4. When Troy bumpy was still owning a Galant vr4. When Travis Sivart owned the CB I just restored. ... When my Street Galant VR4 was a 2.3L GT30 project bring built on Jack stands (not much has changed ). Funny thing is I see these photos and I ended up owning a few of these cars owned by others eventually. Got some old photos? Share them..... Always great when you find these old memories hiding on a HDD somewhere.

05.01.2022 Project CB AWD Lancer getting operated on. Out goes the engine loom in exchange for an RVR loom. The previous owner had mentioned that it had some electrical gremlins when he owned it and own closer inspection, the loom has been modified previously. ... The engine bay side was a mess as was the ecu side. Better safe than sorry, replace the lot! If you look closely at the ignition coils, you'll see that a pair has been melted most likely due to arcing from the coil to the lead caused by inadequate contact (not pressed in enough ). This caused excessive heat to occur which in turn melted the plastic. Check out them wiring mods!

03.01.2022 Project Cordia update: A nice an balmy 36 deg C day in Melbourne meant light work on the Cordia. This included mounting of the factory ignition coil in the OEM position with some modification to the OEM coil bracket due to clearance issues on the firewall and fuel return hard line .... The ignition module found a nice home using OEM bolt holes in the engine bay also. A nice set of red ignition leads also installed. So..... Ignition system completed. Starter motor cleaned and reinstalled. AFM plug documented and ready for modification to extract the air temp sensor input along with a couple of other ecu optional inputs down the track. Lastly, I found a catch can lying around so decided to test out the fitment. Looks ok and should get the job done. Just need to make it all plumb back into the intake in order to pass that road worthy that's needed for registration. 02.01.2022 Project Cordia update: The week has been slow with progress. We are currently in the middle of a heat wave here in Melbourne Australia so I've been reluctant to get cooked whilst working outside. Todays completed tasks consisted of the reinstatement of the updated RVR engine loom along with retermination of the Denso fuel injectors plugs and shortened TPS plug.... Still to do.... tie cables into place, terminate AFM plug to DT connector and integrate loom to Cordia fuse box (chassis connections ). #cordiapower #mitsubishi #4gswapped #backyardbuilt

02.01.2022 Time to get a start on this machine. It'll be brought back to life better than previous. Old parts being removed to bring life to some other builds like the JDM silver vr4 I'm restoring and a mates mates Toyota build. ... #amg #mitsubishigalant #backyardbuilt

01.01.2022 Project Cordia update. Engine loom prep time. ECU as previously mentioned will be a LINK G4 Evo plug and play. The loom I am using is an RVR auto engine loom which will be customised to suit the Cordia. Ticked off the to do list below :... OEM Cordia radiator fitted with all intercooler piping clearance checked. So far so good. OEM fan also clears. Engine loom measured up and labelled. Injector and TPS wiring route to be shortened. Auto Trans control loom checked and left integrated for future trans upgrade. Dressed using split braiding. Repairs done on the loom (broken wires found on trans plug and coil / ignitor plug ). Injector resistor pack deleted. O2 sensor wires routed to inside firewall side to allow for future wideband O2 module connection to 0-5v analogue input of ecu. Module will be installed inside cabin with new O2 loom running to dump pipe. CAS wires converted from 2 sensor type to single cam sensor type (7bolt RVR 4G to 6 bolt VR4 CAS plug) AFM plug to be cut off and terminated on 6 Pin DT connector for future inputs to be connected. Air intake, pressure etc. Knock sensor plug to be upgraded to the newer Bosch type for more accurate knock readings. See more
