04.01.2022 Happy New Financial Year. Below is some important information and changes for the processing of 2020 Tax Returns 1. The ATO will start processing tax returns from the 5th of July and expect to start paying refunds from the 16th July... 2. For most people your 2020 PAYG Payment Summary (Income Statement) will be issued to you through your mygov account. We cannot get your PAYG Payment Summary for you. Some employers have until the 31st July to finalise your Income Statement and if you lodge your return before it is finalised the ATO have advised they will not process it. 3. Your refund should be back within 12 days. Centrelink reconciliations can add a further couple of days 4. If you have made concessional super contributions and wish to claim a deduction please ensure you have lodged your intent to claim with your super fund before lodging your tax return as the ATO will not allow the deduction if they haven't received notification. 5. We can take your fee for the preparation of your return out of your refund. 6. We are doing face to face tax interviews but clients also have the option of emailing or telephone interviews 7. Please be patient this is an extremely busy time for accountants normally and the last few months have been difficult for us as we juggled the normal work load, assisting clients with Job-keeper / COVID issues and our own family needs in terms of homeschooling and childcare.

03.01.2022 A couple of clients have contacted us regarding calls they have received from the Ato. In one of these calls they were able to quote the clients tax file number to them. They knew his abn and business name. They asked for his accountants number and he then received a call showing our number as the caller ID, the person had an accent said they were from Better Business Advice.... A quick google of our phone number was all it took to give them our business name and the names of the accountants in the firm. PLEASE be careful if you get these types of calls, don’t give any information, hang up and call us. The Ato will NOT call and threaten you for payment or tell you that you are going to court or prison. In most cases as your tax agent they would make contact with us first.
