21.01.2022 How were things for you at school back in the day? What did it feel like at age 7, 8, 12, 14 or even 17? Did you feel in control of things around you? What are your most precious memories? Were they academic in nature? Recently I surveyed what students remember from their time with me as their teacher over a decade ago. Guess how many ex-students wrote about academic outcomes? Zero! Every single person responded with a feeling that they were left with. Our job as teachers is all about the connections with students that we create and then how we connect them to their learning. Check out our blog on how to become a memorable teacher here >> https://buildingbetterbrains.com.au/how-to-become-a-memora/

20.01.2022 Play, my favourite topic! Play is so powerful. Play is healing, connection, support and most of all, it's fun! Play is essential for building: - A well-integrated healthy brain - one that is adaptable, flexible, creative, focused on problem solving, utilizes left brain (logical/verbal) and right brain (conceptual/visual) working together.... - Emotional intelligence - the ability to develop a body felt sense of what they are feeling/sensing in their bodies in reaction to the world around them and then be able to verbally label what they are feeling in words. - High Resilience - Play-saturated children tend to have more resilience. They feel comfortable with, and are curious to know, other children who are different. Tolerance and developing empathy are natural outgrowths of more complex play processes. - Skills in problem-solving and cognitive flexibility child led play involves natural experimentation, engineering, design, collaboration, cause and effect experiments, trail and error explorations. - More memorable and effective learning experiences How have you incorporated more play into your and your child's lives?

13.01.2022 Closed for construction! Have you ever heard of the terms upstairs and downstairs brain? The upstairs brain in children is still being built. That’s the part that controls the decision making process, empathy, planning, and self awareness. The downstairs is full of emotions and impulses and our basic needs to live, like breathing. We cover these in more detail in our Brain Wise Parenting Program. This is just one key that unlocks a secret of the brain's behaviour. ... https://building-better-brains.teachable.com/p/unlocking-th #empowerkids #empowerparents #consciousparenting #awareparenting

08.01.2022 With practice, we can see that our wounded child is not only us. Our wounded child may represent several generations. Our mother may have suffered throughout he...r life. Our father may have suffered. Perhaps our parents weren’t able to look after the wounded child in themselves. So when we’re embracing the wounded child in us, we are embracing all the wounded child in our past generations. This practice is not a practice for ourselves alone, but for numberless generations of ancestors and descendants. Thich Nhat Hanh Art: Anna Lee @annaofthemedow IG

If you want to build a connection with your child, be willing to share your thoughts and feelings. Allow them to see you express your emotions in a healthy and safe way. Communicate with them and hold space for them to share all of the feelings they are experiencing. This is an essential part of their social-emotional developm...ent. #encouragekids #creativetherapy #communicationiskey #lovewinseverytime

And know that while your results won't ever define you - your resilience already has.
