25.01.2022 Byron Bird Buddies (BBB) Program Update for February 2020 Please find attached an update of the BBB & other groups in the Northern Rivers program for February. ...If you wish to help BBB with the KBA surveys please contact me - don't just turn up as the survey maybe cancelled or postponed for a number of reasons. Note at the end of February the NRMA are celebration their 100 years of existence and a week-end of activities are planned for the Northern Rivers at North Byron Parklands - kids stuff, music, info sessions - & open to all people - they invited Non-profit organisations to have a stall & as as it so happens they will pay us - easy fundraising for our group and birds - but its an all day affair so a few hours of help would be most welcome - help from any one in any of our birding groups would really be appreciated - I have posters etc but if anyone has any new idea of how to display our local birds - then please let me know - we have one gazebo space so not a lot of room. 20.01.2022 Regarding BBB's 'Bird Trails of Richmond Valley. A Birdwatchers Guide from Coast to Hinterland' brochure During 2019 BBB spent many hours developing the Bird... Trails of Richmond Valley another brochure in our series of brochures highlighting birdwatching areas in the Northern Rivers of NSW. The brochure provides information on 22 birding sites within the Richmond Valley from the coastal area of Evans Head south to Whiporie and out to the ridges west of Casino with 5 sites in close proximity to the Casino township. download a PDF version here: https://documentcloud.adobe.com/link/track Unfortunately as the brochure was going to print in December nearly half of the sites in the south and south east of Casino were on fire. Except for Bundjalung NP where 69% of the park burnt, nearly 100% of the remaining protected areas were burnt. If you have the opportunity to monitor any of these sites or any land nearby it will help in the recovery phase if you upload your observations to the BirdLife Australia’s national data base, this will allow us to assess the site recovery. All details are on the back fold of the brochure. We hope you will still enjoy your birding experience in the Richmond Valley as recovery commences. Jan-- Jeanette Olley BBB coordinator 0428864378

16.01.2022 Attention: Due to the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) emergency, BBB is cancelling it's social programs for the foreseeable future. We suggest we all practice ...social distancing until the emergency passes. We believe this is the responsible action to take in order to keep our hospitals and social services from being overwhelmed here in Australia. In the meantime we will attempt to keep aggregating all things birds right here on our Facebook page. All the best, your BBB team.
