25.01.2022 With support from many Gippsland businesses, Barrier Breakers is preparing a MONSTER raffle to be conducted over a six-months period. The raffle will offer a number of valuable prizes and also reward ticket-sellers for their efforts. A commencement date for the raffle will be announced shortly. In the meanwhile, please remember the reason why we need to conduct such fund-raisers. Barrier breakers is the only organisation of its type in the region (possibly Victoria), who prov...ides crisis advocacy, which really does help the poor and vulnerable who suffer from mental illness. This valuable life-saving service should be funded by governments, but unfortunately isnt. We are therefore running our services on a shoe-string and rely almost completely on community support and a volunteers workforce. So please, please do all you can to support us. It is easy to click-on our donations page and make a contribution. See more

17.01.2022 It is not OK for any political party to singularly profit from legislation/regulation that it enacted in government. I believe it is morally corrupt.

16.01.2022 Its hard to believe the Morrison government is serious about wage growth when they are artificially holding down the wages of their own employees. Public secto...r wages and conditions help drive the market so when the government attacks the people who work for Australia, they hurt all of us. See more

05.01.2022 The federal government has just announced its intention to put Centrelink on-line, further contract-out services and close Centrelink offices. Apparently, no-one has told them that many, many people, who depend on Centrelink benefits, such as the elderly, the poor, the regionally disadvantaged and those who suffer mental illness, either dont have access to computers/iPhones/tablets, or know how to use them. I dont know what others think, but I believe this decision is almos...t beyond belief. It is a typical Canberra response to saving money -heartless and autocratic. Previous contracting-out of services and heavy reliance on phone contact has been a disaster - just ask anyone who has wasted hours and hours waiting for phone connections that rarely occur. This decision must be resisted with as much vigor as possible. Please write, phone and/or speak to your local federal MP and lodge your complaint/opposition to this change. See more

04.01.2022 Do you use mental health and/or alcohol and drug services? The VMIAC (The Victorian Mental Illness Awareness Council) and APSU (The Association of Participating Service Users) are hosting a consumer event to get feedback from users of these services in the region so that they may better advocate for these individuals. The event will be held at the Comfort Inn and Suites Latrobe, 5601 Princess Highway, Traralgon. Afternoon tea will be provided. Everyone who identifies as having used mental health and or alcohol and other drug services including carers/family members are invited to attend. Register your interest on Eventbrite and Facebook: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/apsu-and-vmiac-regional-roa https://www.facebook.com/events/1893190290714016

03.01.2022 Thanks Traralgon RSL for hosting our Hat Day dinner and fund-raiser. We raised more than funds! Hat tips galore, and lots of laughs, along with members of the R...otary Club of Hazelwood. Guest speaker, Derek Amos from Barrier Breakers Inc shared some sobering stories with us. We are grateful to be able to support Australian Rotary Healths annual Lift the Lid on Mental Illness campaign each year. #RCofTC #wearerotary #HatDay2018 #mentalhealth #research See more

01.01.2022 Barrier Breakers extends a heartfelt wish for everyone to have a healthy and prosperous New Year. "Yeah, not likely", say some, but the reality is we can all strive to make sure that this new year is much better than the year we have all just experienced. To those, who suffer mental illness and who turn to us for help and support, please be assured that we will do our level best to ensure you receive the assistance you seek. We know that your lives can change dramatically for the better with the right health supports, or perhaps a more liveable income (such as the DSP) and if that is why you have turned to us for help, we will try our very hardest to bring-about that change. - Derek Amos.

01.01.2022 Please come along and see the wonderful artworks of our Arts Therapy Class students.
