25.01.2022 WHEAT STRAW: Some one told me recently that cattle wont eat straw unless they are starving. Well Ive been under stocked and havent fed any hay this year but wanted to give them a bit of roughage so I got some good quality straw for them to chew on and they wont leave it alone!! So going to go through twice as much as I hoped........ what is good quality straw? Baled same day as its headed with plenty of leaf in it, of course you cant compare it with good quality hay but its way better than an empty belly.

25.01.2022 When you buy heifers and think they are too small for anyone to even think about putting them with the bull........

07.01.2022 Its a good time to get your track into shape before winter. Getting the water to run off your road will save you $$ in the future while giving you a much smoother driveway. I use the dirt and gravel off the edge around my water troughs. 8ft wide with leveling wheel and 3 hydraulic functions, also can get under fences, dig drains or level out pads. Servicing West Tamar areas through to Westbury and Longford.

07.01.2022 Fog rolling in early tonight

06.01.2022 Hope its not too graphic but the reality was an after hours cesarean section or being put down. So we opted for the latter but didnt want to waste a nice Angus heifer so lets just say we wont be buying mince for quiet while!! and no Im not selling the truck to go butchering........and I dont think Jared is going to give up building......

05.01.2022 A mixed load to st Helens this week from a local supplier. 5x4 normal hay which is good for cattle and any horses with out any issues....... 4x4 teff hay which is low in sugar, good for maintaining or dropping weight and good for horses at risk of laminitis.... Squares are Timothy hay which is high in fibre and low in protein. Its the most digestible hay for horses and excellent for colic prevention. WHAT IS GOOD QUALITY HAY? A lot of hay advertised says its good quality but is it really? If hay paddocks are shut up for a few months or sometimes the whole year then it will go stalky and there will be a lot a dead grass in the bottom which doesnt make good quality hay. If its cut and gets a lot of rain on it this will reduce quality. If it gets wet a few times over a week to 10 days or more then it will start to go bad. Hay should be baled as soon as its dry, going too early will make it mouldy and every day past when its ready will lose a bit of quality. Any paddocks that are dry and short spindly looking stuff will make good animal bedding! So pull some hay out of the bale and if its got some colour to it (green) and is nice and leafy and smells nice you are on the right track. I cant explain the smell of good hay but Im sure its 1 of a farmers favourite smells In saying all this we dont live in a perfect world so hay is not always what we want it to be and there is a market for all different qualities but watch out because you might not be buying what you think you are Ps. When its a sellers market dont be picky...

05.01.2022 Brunos ears go frizzy when its going to rain, might get a job with the BOM. Would save them looking out the window

02.01.2022 Happy Friday folks Next week I will be going to Devonport empty then will have some space from Devonport to st Marys then empty back home. Also will be coming out of the North East empty a few times in a week or 3. Or if you have non urgent loads from anywhere and want to save $$ just let me know and it might just work

01.01.2022 Seems like the right thing to do to isolate all the bales.....actually i find that silage bales touching each other tends to cause a patch of mould and a pyramid stack is a good spot for rodents to shelter and chew on the bales. Another plus is no ripped plastic and they didnt take up that much room for 270 bales. Customer provided tractor and motor bike, worked pretty good shuffling around.

01.01.2022 Stowaway........
