20.01.2022 Wow... another awesome effort!! The Final Presentation of the BrainSTEM Innovation Project - 10 iSTEM On Thursday 19/11, our BrainSTEM group compromising of four Year 10 students - Alexandra, Amelia, Georgia and Stephanie - presented our final project in an online showcase with other schools. Over the course of twelve weeks we had worked together with our mentor (UNSW Astrobiologist) Bonnie Teece, the program creator Sid Verma and Ms Price in order to design and create a 3D ...printed research base on Titan (one of Saturn’s moons). This program was very enlightening and insightful for our whole group as it gave us an opportunity to work with scientists to create a project we wanted to further research. Throughout this program we learned many new things about science and advancements in astro science that are not taught in a school environment. 10.01.2022 C E L E B R A T I N G C A T H O L I C E D U C A T I O N B I C E N T E N A R Y Anniversaries are very special occasions, and they serve as a time to remember, reflect and celebrate. Importantly, they are also moments of recommitment of purpose and an affirmation of future hopes. Anniversaries of all types bring together in a very special way the continuum of past, present and future. This is certainly true of the bicentenary of Catholic education in Australia, a momento...us occasion which we mark in 2020-2021. The bicentenary of Catholic education invites each of us to remember the past with gratitude and be inspired by the story of struggle and success, as we look forward with faith in the future. This will be a great time for Sydney Catholic Schools. In 2021 there will be celebrations taking place to mark this wonderful occasion starting with fence banners displayed at each Catholic school across Australia. There will also be a National Mass which will be celebrated on the Feast of Our Lady Help of Christians on Monday, 24 May 2021, at St Mary's Cathedral. Save the date... 04.01.2022 1 0 0 0 H e a r t s P r o j e c t Year 7 Technology is taking part in the 1000 Hearts Project. The initiative is a kindness project that was started by Sarah De Jonge to spread love and compassion to those who truly need it. We became ‘heartists’ and used our fine sewing skills to create hearts filled with love and care to comfort others. We will be handing out the personalised pocket hearts to our teachers, peers and family members. When you receive a heart, keep it close and give it a squeeze when you need a reminder of love, hope and courage. We are really looking forward to completing this project, knowing that this small gesture can make a difference. Grace and Sienna 7TECA

03.01.2022 Y e a r 9 R e f l e c t i o n D a y Coming to the end of Year 9, I think most of us needed the time to reflect on our year. Some reflection needed was around the goals we set and achieved or didn’t achieve, the people we got to connect with, all the exciting moments we had and ways we could improve and give more love to ourselves and others. The Year 9 Reflection day last Friday gave us this opportunity and also the opportunity to be grateful for the things we have, including this beautiful planet and the wonderful people that surround us. By Violet (Year 9)

02.01.2022 Year 9iSTEM are now studying aerodynamics which looks at how things fly through the air. They are building water bottle rockets and experimenting with factors that affect how high the rocket goes when launched. Today they were testing the effect of the shape of the nose cone and the shape of fins on the rocket. They are applying the knowledge they gained earlier in their experiments on streamlining and some research on rockets. Who will design the rocket that goes the highest? Stay tuned! 02.01.2022 Year 11 Physics is one of the classes that has run as co-instruction between De La Salle and Bethlehem this year. At the moment, the students are working on electricity and magnetism. Today they were reading circuit diagrams and connecting circuits. Using ammeters, they measured the electric current flowing at different points of a series and a parallel circuit. They will compare and analyse their results to identify patterns in the way the current flows in different types of circuits so that they can predict the current in future circuits. Are these the electrical engineers of the future? #engineering #science #physics
