25.01.2022 New Year, new dreams Tell me if you vibe this Every year you list out your resolutions, but by the time December rolls around you realise you stopped working towards them months ago [if you ever even started].... You end the year frustrated with the intentions of I’ll start fresh next year. I’ll let you in on a secret: crushing those New Year's resolutions and training your horse take the same strategies! Set achievable goals - only set goals that are rationally achievable for the year ahead. If you’re training novice, maybe don’t aim to be riding GrandPrix by December. Invest in yourself - one of the biggest lessons I learned in 2020 about my business was the importance of investing in yourself. You have to choose: either keep teetering along at microspeed or take the leap and get the tools you need to achieve your dreams. Have a plan - make yourself a roadmap on HOW you plan on achieving your goals so you can actively follow it - making success a million times easier and more likely. Show up consistently - Success comes to those who show up consistently and work towards their goals - not to those who wait for it to come to them. Congratulate yourself - Don’t forget to celebrate the wins as they come - all work, no play is a fast track to burning out. I'll be using all of these tools in my training, my business and in my personal life in 2021 to set myself up to succeed. "A dream written down with a date becomes a goal. A goal broken down into steps becomes a plan. A plan backed by actions becomes reality" Tell me your biggest New Year’s resolution and how you plan on achieving it __________ Quintes shiny coat: @equineluxury
24.01.2022 it’s throwback tuesday so here’s a little baby Q video This is from our very first ride which was the ride that I knew she was my heart horse. I was coming to the end of my six months working at Hengststation Jens Meyer in Germany and was still planning on returning home at the time. The search was on for my new dancing partner in Australia but there was nothing we found was ‘Emma approved’ for quality. My friend Vicki convinced me to convince my parents to let me have a si...t on this magical 3 year old that Steffen was training and from that moment we just clicked. I won’t lie, taking on a 3 year old opinionated, sassy, sometimes just straight up bitch of a mare at 18 was a struggle and there is a million things I would do over but there’s also a million lessons I wouldn’t have learned if I’d taken an easier path. This video itself makes me cringe but it’s how our journey started so I think it’s worth sharing so we can see how far we have both come. See more

21.01.2022 Bending: It seems like a simple concept A simple concept that is widely misunderstood among riders. If you have ever found yourself frustrated because he won’t stop pushing out through the shoulders or we can’t get enough angle in my [insert lateral movement here]? Then keep reading ... True bend is achieved when the horse is curved through his whole body like a banana, yielding from inside leg to outside rein. So what are you doing wrong? Relying predominantly on your inside rein - this is the BIGGEST mistake people make when trying to bend their horses. By only (or mostly) relying on your inside rein to create bend you are just flexing the neck and not the whole body. Only using inside aids - when you combine the solo use of inside rein and inside leg without any outside aids you are literally ASKING your horse to run out because you are not supporting the shoulders. Conflicting weight bearing - your weight when riding should always be heavier to the way you want your horse to bend as your horse will naturally bend around your weight. By putting your weight to the outside (which many riders naturally want to) you are giving the horse mixed signals. No rhythm or balance - before anything else your horse needs to be travelling forward of your leg in a rhythm or he will not be able to be balanced when you attempt to bend him. When we understand HOW our own aids influence each part of the horse it is very easy for us to teach our horse to bend their body correctly. To correctly bend a horse we need to yield their ribcage away from the inside leg and catch their shoulders on our outside rein so they can stay on the same line and not fall out. A soft inside hand can be used to guide the nose in the right direction but we should not rely on this. Test yourself often by giving the inside hand forward, if the horse stays at the same angle then you have correct bend. To my wonderful clients, thankyou for giving me the opportunity to work with you and your horses. I am so proud of what each one of you achieved this year and cannot wait to continue the journey in 2021.... My sponsor EquineLuxury for allowing me to be an ambassador for such high quality, natural products that I whole heartedly believe in and for believing in me just as much. I am grateful to be a part of the EL family. My coach Matthew Dowsley. Thankyou for your dedication in helping me with my not-so-easy mare. The progress we have made have been the highlight of my 2020 and I'm looking forward to seeing where the new year takes us. To Kathryn and the team at Sutton Farm Equestrian Centre, I cannot thank you enough for your support and for allowing me to base my business at such a dream facility. My parents and my partner Bantray, thankyou for everything you do for me, Quinte and my business. And finally, thankyou to all my friends and family who have helped and supported me this year. You all mean the world to me. It has not been easy trying to build a business in a new area with no reputation, in the middle of a pandemic, but I am so proud of what we are building and cannot wait to see what this post will be in 2021. Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a happy, healthier new year.
20.01.2022 Dedicated or stupid? 45km winds, ice falling from the sky and freezing temperatures. The horses all handled it much better than expected and I was very happy to get inside at the end of the day. How many layers do you think I have on? 18.01.2022 I am very excited to announce the growth of the BC Performance Horses family to include sponsorship from IRide Equestrian Apparel Pty Ltd. [Keep reading for a MASSIVE discount]. iride is genuinely one of my favourite equestrian apparel brands due to their comfortable, elegant and affordable riding attire with innovative, technology-based sports and performance fabrics which include UV protection, polyester dry-fit technology and natural fibre blends for optimal performance an...d cooling. Due to my job, it is paramount to me that my riding wear is comfortable and durable enough for long days in the arena as well as fashionable enough to meet my perfectionism. iride is all of these things for me. In 2018 I was looking for new polo shirts that didn’t cost an arm and a leg and came across iride. Those polo shirts were not only half the price of other brands, but the most comfortable, classy and durable shirts I have ever owned. And they’re still going strong in 2021. Since then iride equestrian has become an integral part of my wardrobe for everything from polos, to vests and sweaters. And everytime I am just as impressed by the quality. It is a huge pleasure to welcome a brand I believe in so much to my team, and I cannot thank the iride team enough for their support. Join in on their biggest sale ever today and use my discount code Beth50 to get 50% off their entire store today only. Let me know in the comments what you'll be buying!
17.01.2022 Half pass button installed! It’s taken a lot of blood, sweat, tears and vertical rears to get this bloody horse to half pass! It’s not yet perfect but she’s finally happily riding forward through the movement without throwing a tantrum because it’s ‘hard’. We’ve spent most of this year quietly working away at her work ethic and rideability and it’s finally paying off.
17.01.2022 We are excited to be on board as a sponsor of the Sutton Farm Show at the end of the month.
12.01.2022 The road with this horse will never be easy but it’s a nice feeling to know we are moving forward in our training. Quintes shiny coat courtesy of the incredible, all natural products from @equineluxury

11.01.2022 Tell me if this is you - you go to your lessons and your horse feels AMAZING. Then you go home and you cannot for the life of you replicate that feeling. Yes, having your coach around to keep you accountable plays a huge part, but there’s no reason why things should slip while you’re riding alone. Here’s some ways you’re going wrong:... You’re not riding with a plan - if you just ride around the arena aimlessly with no plan or idea where you’re going, how can you expect your horse to go well? If you don’t know what you’re doing next how can you expect your horse to? You’re not expecting clear responses - you ask your horse to react to an aid but they either don’t respond or they give you a different response than you intended. This could either be because the horse doesn’t understand what you want or they think they can get away with not doing what you’ve asked. Have a clear idea of what you want, ask for it, then keep upping the pressure until you get the response you set out for. DON’T SETTLE FOR LESS. You’re not riding with preparation - riding around randomly then just deciding okay I’m doing this NOW and expecting your horse to do it immediately is a sure way to confuse and unbalance your horse. Set yourself up for success by preparing your horse for what you want them to do next. The issue is not that you don’t KNOW what to do with your horse - you should be learning this in your lessons. You just don’t know how to construct your training sessions by yourself. As your coach I give you tailored strategies to use when you’re riding at home so you don’t ever have to feel like you don’t have the tools to progress your training when I’m not around. So what will it be? Will you keep only making progress one ride a week when you have a lesson? Or will you invest in the tools that will give you consistent evolutions in your training - even when you’re by yourself - so you can improve every time you get in the saddle? If you’re ready to get serious about your riding click the link in my bio for more information or to get in touch _____ Quintes shiny coat courtesy of @equineluxury Photography magic by @someofsmudge
10.01.2022 the difference between something good and something great is attention to detail I’m so thankful to have had the amazing @thesaddlefitterau come all the way down to see us last week. Quintes condition has changed massively in the last year since our last fit meaning our saddle needed a couple of tweaks. I can’t thank Kathryn enough for always going so far above and beyond for her clients, there’s no one I trust more to fit my saddles. ps. how stunning is this @horsegloss pad, it’s almost as shiny as Quinte’s @equineluxury coat.
10.01.2022 practice makes progress we will never improve if we only practice our strengths.
09.01.2022 I just feel like my horse and I are making no progress We’ve all been in it - that rutt that feels impossible to get yourself out of. You tell yourself you’re doing all the right things:... regular lessons a new saddle you couldn’t REALLY afford regular checks from a bodyworker Despite this you still feel like you’re making little to no progress in your training. Don’t get me wrong, I still believe all of these things are super important BUT I have learned they are not a magic ‘fix’ for the holes in our training. Most often when our horses play up it’s not just because that’s something she does or he’s an asshole. USUALLY when a horse plays up it’s because they have found a gap in our training that we haven’t filled. Take my mare Quinte for example: it took me far too long to learn that the reason she was rearing vertical wasn’t a vice she had decided to randomly try one day, but a (very dramatic) evasion to working through the contact. That stupid smart brain of hers worked on the thesis that when she reared I would give the reins and continue on with little to no contact - and for so long she had me trained to ride her like that. It would have been so easy to just say well, she’s just a bitch and that’s how it is and throw her in a paddock to have some babies, like so many people suggested to me. But I’m just as stubborn as she is. I spent the first half of this year quietly teaching her that the contact stays no matter where she goes or what she does, and slowly but surely the rears have become very few and far between. On top of that she has progressed further in her ‘normal’ training in the last few months than she has in the last couple of years. Sometimes we just need a new set of eyes to help us see the cause of the problem that is stumping our progression. Sometimes we just need help to solve that problem. At BC Performance Horses I offer long term, short term and lesson / training packages to help you and your horse back on the right track so you can ENJOY riding again. Click the link in my bio to find out more about how I can help you kick your riding goals. Quintes shiny coat courtesy of @equineluxury
09.01.2022 Why choose to natural grooming products? I wanted to take a moment to discuss the benefits of using a natural grooming range on our horses. It’s well versed that ‘elbow grease’ is the best grooming tool to remove dirt, loose hair and bring on that shiny coat all while spending precious time bonding with our horses. Using a natural grooming range can take that to a new level whilst having little impact on the environment and improving our horses health in the process. These ...products use quality ingredients and are created and tested by horse people for horse people to ensure you’re not compromising quality to do your bit for our planet. In fact, I truely believe that these natural products make my horses cleaner, shinier and healthier than their equivalents made from harmful ingredients. I am very excited to announce that all the horses in training with me at Sutton Farm will be exclusively groomed with products from my wonderful sponsor EquineLuxury.com.au. This is a subject I am extremely passionate about and I’m so proud that for the last two years and for hopefully many into the future I get to work with EquineLuxury and help promote their beautiful products and message. My discount code ‘quinteandbeth’ gives you 15% off your order so there’s no excuse not to head over and make the change for a better future.

08.01.2022 A very good read from Pryde's EasiFeed addressing the importance of maintaining a healthy hind gut in our horses. https://www.prydes.com.au//gut-health-what-you-need-to-know
07.01.2022 One of my stable staples that my horses and I can’t live without has to be this all natural, vegan mouth butter from @equineluxury. 05.01.2022 A great article explaining how to ride the valueable but tricky 'renvers'. I use this movement a lot with my horses to help with many different issues. This is a movement I've found can be very misunderstood by a lot of riders, including myself in the past, but when ridden correctly is a super tool for the tool bag!
