25.01.2022 Matilda (right) raised $3000 for Breast Cancer Research Centre-WA at her fundraising stall on Saturday. We think she is an absolute super star! Matilda was a real little trooper and worked so hard to get everything organised and ready for the day. We ended up having over 100 people come to the stall to support Tilly and the cause. We have a lovey community around us. The day was even more special as my mum, who has stage 4 triple negative cancer, was well enough to attend the stall for a little while. A very special memory for us all Said Matildas Mum, Julieanne. Join us in saying a big thank you to Matilda and her family.

25.01.2022 We were privileged to have Monika Page speak at our Annual Appreciation dinner. Monika was diagnosed with breast cancer and treated under the care of the Perth Breast Cancer Institute. In her speech, Monika shared a chance meeting in our waiting room.. "Long story short, soon after I had my breast cancer diagnosis and because I don’t do things by halves, a triple negative cancer..so that’s how Professor Chan and Dr Willsher came into my life. At my first appointment, Jason an...d I sat in the waiting room to see Dr Willsher and Prof Chan for the first time...Then something really odd happened. A lady, maybe in her late 20s or early 30s appeared in front of Jason and I. I remember looking at her thinking she was beautiful and serene. And she said ‘can I hug you?’ Because it was just before Covid, I said yes. And she gave me a hug and she said ‘you are going to be alright. You are in the best hands with Arlene.’ That’s all she said and then she left the room. And from the moment I met Dr Willsher and Prof Chan, I have felt this way." We love this act of kindness in our waiting room and a big thank you to Monika for generously sharing her story with us.

17.01.2022 The Ladybird Fund was created in honour of 'Ginny', Virginia Margaret Brooke, who passed away from advanced breast cancer in 2015. Ginny's wish was to support breast cancer patients through what can be expensive treatments. ‘It has been two years since we collectively raised over $26,000 for the Ladybird Fund. Thank you to all our amazing donors. October 9, 2020 will mark the 5th Anniversary of Ginny's death. As we lead up to this significant date, we ask that our donors onc...e again give to this significant and worthy cause with a new target of $5000 to represent 5 years. We hope to share Ginny's giving spirit by championing this cause for people suffering from a breast cancer diagnosis and financial hardship because of treatment costs. We understand this has been a trying year for many. Any contribution no matter how small is welcome’ - The Brooke Family. ‘The generous donation from the Ladybird Fund of $2000 was of great financial assistant to us. We are both on a part pension and had reached a point where our savings had been exhausted. The cost to us had been over $4000 per month, a cost we could not sustain. We are extremely grateful to the Ladybird Fund for their assistance in helping cover this cost, and to Prof Arlene Chan of BCRC-WA, said Ann, a patient. UPDATE: The target of $5,000 has been reached and Ginny’s son Michael, will shave his head if the new goal of $10,000 is reached. If you would like to donate, please follow this official link: https://www.mycause.com.au/page/229914/ladybird-fund-v20.

12.01.2022 Why do we do Clinical Trials? There are many other reasons why a clinical trial is performed. These include questions relating to improving the quality of life for patients whilst on treatment, the impact of a cancer diagnosis on patients and family members, understanding the biological behavior of cancer so we can better eliminate it; and most commonly to assess new treatments which improve the cure rate and cancer control for an individual. At Breast Cancer Research Centre-WA our dedicated Breast Clinical Trials Unit (BCTU) performs many clinical trials. Find out more about these trials on our webpage. https://bcrc-wa.com.au/research/clinical-trials/

A recent study of over 2000 Australians found that 1 in 3 of us have reduced our usual amount of exercise since the physical distancing laws commenced. Although we may need to be more inventive about how we exercise, keeping active is... still within our reach. Keeping active plays a key role in boosting our immune system, maintaining a strong mental and physical health and reinforcing positive and healthy lifestyle habits.
