02.01.2022 Hi Children's Ministry Partners, Please be aware of this development with our Children and Youth camps that taken place and been communicated with our family of churches recently. Partnering with local Baptist youth ministries to run camps has long been the aim of Baptist Churches Western Australia (BCWA), and reflects our vision to be ‘an empowering movement helping pastors, ministries, churches and their communities say ‘yes’ to Jesus’. The first Combined Baptist Youth Cam...p was held over the Christmas holiday period of 1949/1950. That camping season was to be the first of many and saw a growth from the then Rockingham site to include camps in Albany, Busselton, and from 1971 at Serpentine Camping Centre. Many people have a story to share of how they encountered Jesus at a Baptist Youth Camp, and many people have ensured that youth camps have continued to provide meaningful experiences for children, youth, leaders and families alike. Baptist Youth Camps at Serpentine Campsite are undergoing a positive transformation. Our desire is to continue to see young people grow in faith, and connect with local churches for ongoing support and discipleship in their faith journey. Over the past 12 -24 months, there has been much listening and discussion with Youth Pastors and leaders about what might most benefit local Baptist church youth ministries in the camp setting, and this has fuelled our desire to revise our current camping model. We believe that much fruit will come in a new season of camping by empowering local Baptist Churches to combine to run camps, connect attending youth into local Churches and provide opportunities for leaders to be supported, trained and gain experience on camp. As this transformation will take time to implement, BCWA has decided to pause on running camps this summer and focus our resources on future camps in consultation with member churches. To ensure that a camping opportunity is available for this Summer, Mount Pleasant Baptist Church will be running an open Youth Summer Camp at Serpentine. Mount Pleasant will make the camp available to individual campers, youth groups and leaders to join them at Serpentine for Summer Camp 2020. If your youth are interested in joining in with summer camp, please contact Michael Yoo at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. If you are interested in being a leader at summer camp, please contact Michael before 1st November 2019. Tel: 9329 1777 Email: [email protected] Camp Dates are: Saturday January 4th - Tuesday January 7th. Camps are for youth in Years 7 12. As registrations and further information become available, these will be posted online on the BCWA website, various Social Media platforms, and via email. Our goal is to have Baptist Youth Camps updated and fully operational again in time for the 2020 Winters season.
