24.01.2022 3RM WEEK!!! Just to quickly recap on a very big week had by Clay, where big PR's were hit on all of his lifts. Squat - 220x3... Bench Press - 115x3 Deadlift - 210x3 He has just finished his deload week and is now heading into his peak for Spring Cup in 5 weeks. Here is a quick shot of his Bench and Deadlift!
24.01.2022 It’s incredible how quickly a program can go and then the testing day is just here and everything has lead to this! On the left is Jamie who tested his deadlift, he started this program never having properly deadlifting before and maxed out at 105kg, and smashed that with a new PB of 142.5kg! On the right, Alex had her to test all three of her lifts, only one had been adjusted solely because of hip and knee issues so she tested her box squat and got a PB of 90kg, which is a 30kg PB, a 50kg Bench, which is a 12.5kg PB and a 110kg deadlift which is a 20 kg PB!

22.01.2022 DEADLIFTS FOR DAYS! Here Lauren is giving her, last and heaviest set, everything she has got. 95x1x6, after 90x6 and 92.5x6.... Her old 1RM was 92.5kg and now she is hitting over it for 6 reps
22.01.2022 This past weekend BDA had a very proud moment as one of our athletes, Clay competed in his first ever powerlifting competition. The preparation leading up too the competition was flawless and this truly showed through on the day. Clay managed to get Personal Bests on all of his lifts and came third in the U90kg weight class.... His lifts were, Squat - 195kg, 7.5kg PB (No Wraps) Bench Press - 115kg, 7.5kg PB Deadlift - 215kg, 15kg PB!!! Big things to come in the world of powerlifting for BDA!

21.01.2022 HOW MANY DAYS DO YOU NEED TO TRAIN PER WEEK??? A big question that a lot of people struggle to answer. Should I train for 6 days a week, is that too much? Or should I train two days a week, is that to little? To be completely honest their is not one answer that fits all! There are a few things that need to be looked at first. ... (1) How many days can you commit to training??? There is no point saying you can commit to 5 days a week and you will only be actually able to make 2 days. At least when you know your only going 2 days a week you can tailor it for that and not miss key aspects that would be on the days you missed. (2) What are your SPECIFC goals? If you want to add 60kgs to your total, in 10 weeks, 1 - 2 days might not be enough to hit those goals, your minimum might be 3 days so you can focus on your three lifts individually. If your looking to lose 5kg of weight then 2 days a week of training can be enough with the right nutriton plan. (3) How badly do you want it? We all have busy lives and it can be tough to find time, but if this means enough to you, you will make the time. We all have time in our week to find for our goals in the gym and for our health. To Wrap Up ask yourself these questions? (1) How man days can you COMMIT to your training? (2) What are you SPECIFC goals? (3) How badly do you want it?
20.01.2022 Alex has just begun her first strength program with BDA this week and had 5 sets of 5 reps on her trap bar deadlifts to start off her session! This is only her second time deadlifting with the trap bar and her first time taking it heavy! We were programmed to go to 50kg for her 5 sets but she smashed it and was able to take it too 90kg's for her last two sets! She is wanting too lose a little bit weight and strengthen her knees and back for her occupation of a veterinarian nu...rse! This is just the beginning

19.01.2022 Technical Practice One of the utmost important things to powerlifting is how you actually lift the weight. Setting time aside to work on your technique is always a good choice, even if your in the midst of your program, if you feel the need by all means do some technique practice, this could be that one thing that makes or breaks your heavy weeks in training. An even better time to set aside some technical work is, after your testing day/comp day is finished. Critiquing ...even the slightest of issues you are having is just as important because, it is all the finer technical details that will break down when you are starting to get into your higher percentages and heavy weights. Here is Coach Bailey, on the Sunday just gone, working on his conventional deadlift, post competition. He may mainly pull in a sumo stance, but this program he will be working on strengthening certain other areas, so technical practice was definitely in order.

I personally have always looked up to superhero’s for motivation. 18.01.2022 BIOSCAN RESULTS!!! After having the Bio-Scan come in this Saturday just gone, it was great to see the results moving in the right direction. Laurens last check-in was 9 weeks ago & we were very happy to see the difference!... Body Weight: 69.4kg > 69.8kg Fat Mass: 24kg > 21kg, down 3 kg! Muscle Mass: 25kg > 27.2kg, up 2.2kg Body Fat %: 34.6% > 30.1%, down 4.5% * Please check the difference in body weight & how her fat mass & body fat percentage have gone down, while her muscle mass has gone up!

18.01.2022 After Clays Sping Cup competition earlier in the year we are now in his off season. This is his first session in knee wraps ever hitting a very easy and comfortable 160 squat! Prior to this he has never wrapped his knees before even in competition and managed to get to a 195kg squat. It will interesting to see how big his squat will grow in his new program!

17.01.2022 Question from a Client Question ~ I have worked quite hard for quite sometime in the and am not getting results I should be, why could this be? The number one aspect to any good training program that needs to be taken into account is specificity. Throwing random exercises together and not knowing how you should be progressing every week and what the end outcome is, will only lead you in circles, or worse backwards.... For example most of my clients are strength athletes. I program them around the three main lifts of Squat, Bench Press, and Deadlifts. I make sure every week they have been overloaded to some degree, whether that be through an increase in weight or an increase in sets and/or reps. As we get through the program the reps and sets will slowly decrease as the weights will go up, creating a peak in their output of strength, so they are at their best to go through a testing day and redo the 1RM’s. If you are a Marathon Runner, Rugby Player or in any sport in general, ask yourself, what is it that you should be specifically working on for your chosen sport and how can you test/measure it so you know you will be moving forward in the direction you want and need to go.

17.01.2022 A good warm-up leads to a good workout, whether this sounds simple to you or not, are you actually doing what you need to, prior to training. Now warming up has many different aspects to it, this could be mobility work, activating, warming up your main lift of the day, but for the context of this post lets keep it to activating. Don't worry we will got into the others in good time. When it comes to squatting and deadlifting good activation through your posterior chain is impe...rative among many other things, one thing I find quite important is glute engagement. Their are tonnes of different exercises you can do to warm them up but keeping it simple is aways best because, you know you will do it because it’s not intricate and it won’t take long because of it’s simplicity. Next time before squatting and deadlifting try doing two sets of 15 reps, of bodyweight hip thrusts and see the difference it can make.

15.01.2022 Post Bikram Yoga Session from the weekend with some of the coaches from HQ! We would highly recommend this class! It does wonders for your bodys well being considering all the load we usually put on it!
15.01.2022 Deadlift PB!!! The one thing Lauren is above eveything else in her training, is consistent. She is very aware of how much she is willing to give to her training, both mentally and physically and gives it 100% in good health and even bad health sometimes. Over the last couple of months one goal has been in mind, finally hitting that 100kg deadlift. For quite sometime now I truly believe she has had the strength, but one thing changed this program, her mentality.... Every time she would approach the bar, even when you could see she knew it would be heavy, she would give it 100% of her focus and not stop until the reps and sets were done. The carry over effect this shift in mentality had on her training in the early days of the program showed through to her last heavy days and testing day. Here is the result, not a 100kg deadlift, but 102.5kg deadlift! You may have to watch it again she pulls it that quickly!
14.01.2022 GPC States 2017 Recap! What an absolute amazing three days of lifting some heavy weights! We had coach Bailey on the Friday and then Clay Smith on the Saturday! It is so imperative to your growth that you reflect on your performance, whether good or bad, and take the lessons that you learnt and apply them either into your training and or next competition. Here are the 2 big lessons learnt, first-hand, from the guys over the weekend.... Clay 1. "Focusing on recovery and not just on the specific places needed, but the whole body as well." 2. "Trying to keep a better mindset when things are going wrong. Sit down and relax and figure out why." Bailey 1. "Sometimes things aren't going to go right and you have to be ready and willing to still give 100% to what it is your doing." 2. "I still have a long way to go with my technicality of my lifts and I have to be open to the possibility of changing my old habits and rituals."

13.01.2022 New Online Client James, coming in for his initial assessment, beating his previous Bench Press 1RM of 75kg and getting a 80kg 1RM! We implemented a few things that James was very new to and it was moving well so we went a bit heavier then intended and came out with a PB! His bum came off the bench slightly and lost his rigidity a bit through his torso and upper back, but these are all things that we will work on cominh into his new program!

09.01.2022 Hip Imbalances! Around the start of this year Avril had a case of a lateral hip tilt, her right side was kicking up and causing all kinds of problems for not only her right side, but more her left side. She absolutely wanted to continue training so we needed to make a plan of action, as to how we were going to tackle the problem.... The picture you see, is a section of the treatment plan BDA provided to her that she began to use to get rid of her lateral hip tilt. Using certain foam rolling techniques and releasing certain muscles through trigger pointing she has now resolved this issue. One thing that is important to add is, just because you get rid of an issue does not mean you should stop working on those areas when doing recovery work. Injury prevention is just as important when you are not injured as it when you are.

The words between coach and athlete will never cease to be of such high importance! This is what can change bad situations good, give them the emotional drive that it will take to do what they need to do! 09.01.2022 Last week at BDA, Jamie begun his first strength program. Here he is smashing his testing getting a 150kg Trap Bar Deadlift! Jamie's goal is too run a half marathon and we are in the initial stages of his preparation for this!
08.01.2022 Today Alex had her last squat and bench press session before her testing next week! Her previous PB's were a 90kg box squat and a 50kg bench press, here she is equating 82.5kg very comfortably and she also managed a 52.5kg paused bench as well! Only deadlifts left and testing day

07.01.2022 Breaking The Pattern Why is it we all eventually get into a rut? We get comfortable with where we are in life, the things we have, the challenges we have battled. You know when your by yourself, even if you try to lie to yourself, that their has to be a step that you have to take, between the rut your in and the progress you could be making.... This is where change must occur. It could be a substantial change or something minutiae. Ask the question you have had on your mind for months, message the person you have wanted to talk to your entire life, invest in yourself or something you truly believe in. 07.01.2022 Question from a Client Question ~ I have quite a busy schedule when it comes to looking after my kids and working as well, how am I going to get results from a program if I am so short on time? When it comes to programming you need to take into account what is going on in your life currently and what is going to be going on for possibly the next 3 months. Once knowing this you can then tailor your program to how your week looks. If you only have 2 days free per week w...ork with that. A program can still be phenomenal and still get good results off a 2 day a week program if you program for only 2 days. One big pot hole a lot people step into is committing to more then they can actually take on. Be honest with yourself and don't commit because you like the thought of being able to do so much because then you will start to get in a bad head space about not being able to keep up with your program. On the flip side of this, ask yourself the question, are you really as busy as you claim to be? Can you not fit in an hour a day for 4 days per week? If the answer is yes, with all honesty, then stick to what you are doing, BUT, if the answer is no then put the sessions in your calendar and make the time to go get your training done! If you truly care about getting the result that much, taking 4 hours out of the 168 hours you already have in the week is not that hard.

Consistency is key and being able to admit that their are still things that need to be worked on and actually working on them! A little bit of instability in this last set because of rushing to get reps done and not getting the hips in the right place!... Progress over Perfection!

04.01.2022 We will always have gaps to fill, whether it be in your training, your recovery or your eating, you will always be able to take it up a level. Holding your standards higher then where you are currently at is a good way to keep moving forward. An example can be, you do recovery work on your training days after you finish your session, why not start doing something every day to help yourself even more. If you look into yourself enough you can always find what it is your needing... to do more of or what you need to start doing. Trust in yourself and trust that you know what your doing.

02.01.2022 Question ~ How do I know that my program is good enough or that my technique in my training is correct? Three very simple words that a lot of people think they are either above or just need to see the value in, GET A COACH. The value a good coach brings is limitless. A good coach can watch over your technique and continuously keep making it better, a good coach can take full control of your program so you don't need to stress about the smaller details, a good coach can be... subjective and give you what is really needed for you specifically and not just give a generic program. If they can be subjective they give you exactly what is needed, no matter how brutal and tough, for you to reach your outcome. I couldn’t stress this enough guys! If you need a hand finding a good coach in your area please just say and I will point you in the right direction.

01.01.2022 Massage Therapy This is something that I feel a lot of people who are into training and even more strength/powerlifting need to here! What ever your preferred method of helping your body is, whether that be Massage Therapy, Needling, Cupping, Physio, Chiro etc, it isn't a luxury.... There is a point where we will all feel sore and even worse, possibly injured and we all see it fitting then to go and get some help. These services are not just for those times, one of there biggest uses is injury prevention. Injury prevention is what I would consider one of the biggest keys to long term, consistent results. Injuries take a lot of time and effort to take care of and get rid of so why not learn how to prevent it yourself and go to someone who can help you prevent it? If your not taking care of yourself outside the gym to help yourself inside the gym don't expect the results you think you should get.
