The Astronomical Society of Victoria Bendigo Section, invites you to 'New Explorations in... the Solar System 2018', a presentation by Dr John Wilkinson. Many new space probes are currently exploring the solar system in which we live. There have been new probes landing on asteroids in 2018, and others have just been sent to the Sun and outer planets. The latest findings will be outlined with amazing images from NASA, European Space Agency and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency. The evening commences at 7.30 pm, Wednesday November 14th at Discovery Science & Technology Centre Bendigo. A gold coin donation would be appreciated. Tea, coffee and biscuits provided. 06.01.2022 Stargazing Live World Record Attempt - Wednesday May 23rd in Castlemaine. The Astronomical Society of Victoria Bendigo Section, will be supporting 1st Castlemai...ne Pioneer Scout Group, as they host the 'Stargazing Live World Record Attempt'. Join them for an evening of fun and excitement as they try to break a Guinness World Record! The event will include a live screening of 'Stargazing Live' with Brian Cox. The aim is to set a new Guinness World Record for the most people stargazing across multiple venues. For this record, participants will stargaze at the Moon through a telescope or binoculars for a 10 minute period. This will occur simultaneously across multiple sites throughout Australia. Registration is at 7 pm, and the world record attempt will take place between 8 and 9 pm, weather permitting. It's important to register as soon as possible, and you will need to bring your own telescope or binoculars, or purchase a telescope online with your free registration. Look for 1st Castlemaine Pioneer Scout Group Star Party on Facebook or eventbrite.com.au The event will take place on Wednesday May 23rd from 7 pm at the 1st Castlemaine Scout Hall, 16 Reckleben St, Castlemaine. 01.01.2022 Viewing Mars at its closest - Friday July 27th. The Astronomical Society of Victoria Bendigo Section, invites you to view Mars at its closest. Mars hasn’t been ...this close since 2003, and won’t be this close again until 2035! Bring your family and friends to experience this rare opportunity. BDAS telescopes will be located on a hill top in Golden Square, to give good views of the eastern horizon where Mars will be rising in the early evening. We may even have a chance to see the bands of Jupiter, Saturn’s rings and the craters on the Moon. All this for a gold coin donation!
