11.01.2022 Another Star! Year 11's Maxyn Dorz's interest in creative writing led her to enter a competition to win 40 hours of online academic workshops with the prestigious Cambridge University. The workshops included essay writing skills, interview skills, university applications advice, guest lectures, Q&A with Cambridge University Undergraduates and subject-specific sessions. Maxyn got to engage with students from all over the world and got a glimpse into what it would be like to study abroad. Way to go Maxyn!

09.01.2022 A School Based Apprenticeship success story! Congratulations to Year 11’s Will Mackie, who has just signed up for an SBA with Coffs Harbour Hardwoods. Will is being mentored in his apprenticeship by a local craftsman who creates specialised wood turning projects such as masts for tall ships, furniture for government house, just to name afew! Will had simply completed a work experience placement with the employer when opportunity came knocking. The employer immediately spot...ted Will’s eye for design and attention to detail and contacted the school to ask how he could get Will on board. Will was keen to learn the craft, but also wanted to finish his HSC - the School Based Apprenticeship was the perfect solution! Well done Will - you will be an asset to your employer. Coffs Harbour Hardwoods is a large local employer who is passionate about ensuring that their organisation operates sustainably. Mr Doyle and I were given a tour of their operations and were pleased to see they have their own nursery where they raise koala food eucalypt seedlings to donate to local farmers, schools etc to revegetate local areas where trees have been harvested.

03.01.2022 With the end of 2020 quickly approaching, some might be wondering the best course of action for moving forward in joining the NSWPF. The ONLY academic requireme...nt for entry into the NSW Police Force is the University Certificate of Workforce Essentials (UCWE). We often get questions about whether other degrees etc will benefit an applicant during the recruitment process. The short answer is NO. If your aim is to join the NSW Police Force then that’s what you should do, if it be the case that after joining you would like to further your education (which we strongly support) you may find that the cost of any further job related education may be tax deductable and or the NSWPF may very well cover the expense or part thereof. You may also get Recognised Prior Learning (RPL) for courses you do during your training, making any further bachelor or degree shorter in length. Delaying your entry into the NSWPF may mean missing out on 3 years of wages ($219k over 3 years), over time, penalty rates, superannuation, annual leave, long service leave, rank seniority and policing experience, as opposed to 3 years of initial further study and significant cost. Before making a final decision, you should weigh up all the factors and costs. As all ways if you need further information we can be contacted on 1800222122 or [email protected] or send us a PM.
