20.01.2022 MURRAY WHITBREAD COACHES PROFILE Where did you grow up? ... I grew up in Tasmania and was surrounded by the amazing bays and hills and I used to enjoy swimming there a lot. How did you get into tennis? As a young child I used to go with my family to play bowls and I continued to watch through the fence at people playing tennis. I thought it was a fascinating sport and that’s how I got into tennis at 11 years old. How long have you been a coach at the club? Since 1967 Favourite player current/past? In the past it was Rod Laver and John McEnroe and now it would have to be Roger Federer . Do you have any hobbies outside of tennis? I used to play multiple sports including table tennis, basketball, squash and a bit of AFL. However from a young age my true love was tennis. What is the funniest thing you’ve seen happen on a tennis court? Through the years you see some interesting things happen on a tennis court. There is never a dull moment. One of the funniest things I’ve seen was a young boy who was angry at himself on court. He bounced a ball and it came right back and hit him in the face. Greatest achievement in tennis? Initially coming from a country town, I believe one of my greatest achievements would be becoming the Tasmanian champion and then branching out to be ranked in the top ten in Queensland by beating a player who made the semi finals at Wimbledon two years later. Tennis isn’t just a sport in which you only see yourself succeed, one of my students won the Under 16 Australian title by defeating Leyton Hewitt in the final. Success of the students you’ve seen grow up over the years makes everything you do so worth it. Murray Whitbread is one of the great coaches at Bundaberg and District Junior Tennis Association (#BADJA) If you are interested in playing tennis there are many opportunities for sessions that cater for both the young and old. Give our highly regarded and experienced coaches a call. It’s a game for life! Kevin Banner - 0409 520 753 Murray Whitbread - 0407 639 824

16.01.2022 Qld Country Teams Challenge Rockhampton via the Central Region recently hosted the 3 day junior teams event. A lovely tournament where it's not about the individual, and every point counts as points for and against are used in countback situations. 94 players were split into 4 divisions containing 6 teams of 4. Representing BaDJTA were Ethan May (div 1), Taj Wilson (div 2), Zain Ali (div 2), Lachlan and Christian Rae (div 4), and Ashton Litkie (div 4).... In the heat, the players were tested, not only through ability, but through stamina, mood, temper and self control. The heat certainly did play a big part (36+) on court so a big congrats to all those who put in their all. The pool was a welcome repetitive at the end of each day. Ethan's team claimed second in div 1, Zain's team placed 3rd in div 2, Lachlan's team finished first with Christian's a close second in div 4, and Taj somehow took out the sportsman's award. Congratulations to all that competed, it certainly tested your mettle. Many thanks to the hosts, from all reports it was a fun and worthwhile event. Looking forward to next year. #tennis #badjta #centralregion #teamtennis See more

02.01.2022 Some great action shots from today when the Agnes Water young guns took on our top junior tennis players in Bundaberg for a day of jam packed match play. The Agnes Water crew got some much needed time on court in readiness for the schools competition in Brisbane in early January. Overall it was a fantastic day of tennis for all participants with some excellent tennis and sportsmanship on display.
