24.01.2022 Throw back to when we use to drive, sometimes more than 5km away, to go run on the spot, in a building. #silverliningparadox

24.01.2022 Running is nothing more than a series of arguments between the part of your brain that wants to stop and the part that wants to keep going. When the argument gets louder, I imagine Morgan Freeman narrating it, and off I go. What’s your secret? ... #be
24.01.2022 A therapist’s job is to enable a healing environment, whether it be by personal training, massage, dry needling, nutrition, just talking....,etc. Even with the most healing environment, you’ve still got to do the work. Maybe reading this may kick start your process, maybe watching Kim Kardashian may make you go squat to get that booty, maybe watching Jamie Oliver chop them veggies is going to help you ‘eat clean’... maybe. But, whatever motivates you, you’ve still got to ...do something about it. #doit

17.01.2022 For most of friends and clients, the most common reason as to why they don’t exercise as often as they’d like to is the same: TIME. They either don’t have time or can’t find time to fit exercise into their already-busy and stressful lives. My question to them is this: if time wasn’t a problem, would you do it? The answer is almost always to a resounding YES! For me, it’s relatively easy to exercise because that’s something I enjoy doing and something I’ve been doing for ...so long that it’s ingrained into my psyche. But that’s me - you do you boo boo. Find something you love and do relatively easily. Start there, gamify it and get sweating. Or try this 10min combo! 1 - Single arm farmers walk 5-10m 2 - Med ball slam - 5reps 3 - Shoulder Taps - 14reps See how many sets you do in 10mins. Thanks to @zenith_strength_performance #be
16.01.2022 If you would have asked me how I was going 3 weeks ago, when Stage 4 restrictions were announced in Melbourne, I would’ve given you a generic great, but that was a damn lie. After some reflection, the truth is that I feel like a caged chicken. My processing unit is built like an endurance athlete, with slow twitch muscle fibres, meaning it takes me time to process big events and make sense of it all. Recently, running has become my medicine and a form of expression. ... While I run, I’m less distracted by the outside world. It’s a time of clarity, creativity, fascination and intense focus, mainly due to the fact that I can freely roam around Melbourne on foot, irrespective of time and distance. Well, at least not for the next 3 weeks. Given the current climate, I think everyone can somewhat relate to this feeling. We’ve ALL been impacted in some way, some greatly and others minimally. Simultaneously, without doubt, some great things are happening in our lives, and the current mood can shift away our focus to the not-so-good events. Although I feel caged, knowing that great things are happening around me, no matter the scale, is liberating. Things like: having the opportunity to run 5km or for an hour per day, having some work (outdoors), a place to sleep, Netflix, food, the coolest FRIENDS, a supportive FAMILY, I can go on and on.... This perspective has been to help me move through this tight space and staying relatively sane. #freerange

14.01.2022 I spend 90% of my training/running time on recovering and maintenance. From, rehydrating, sleeping, waiting, supplementing, talking with love ones, booting..., etc. The other 10% is running. I’m blessed to have @i.am_recovery on deck. Thanks for the boots.... #maintenance #recovery

12.01.2022 Social media has inadvertently given everyone a voice, but it’s also deafened some of us. Like Stephan Covey said, Most people do not listen with the intent to understand; they listen with the intent to reply There’s a time and a place for your legitimate complaint. Waiting to complain as a response to someone else’s complaint is a recipe for chaos.... All lives matter, but the lives that are most at risk need the most attention. Like at a hospital, look no far, the EMERGENCY. Remember how we had to stay at home to save lives? You don’t need to have the answers, but at least listen, to understand. #whereisthelove @youmsi01 thank you your calm and well put perspective. #blm

11.01.2022 Two days after completing my first 100km ultra marathon, I decided to do some tests to make sure I came out of that experience unscathed. I booked in to see a GP, and upon explaining why I need those tests, he responded with running is bad for your knees. I politely asked him if he runs or has ever ran, to which he said no and no, because it’s bad for your knees.... Given my extensive injury wrap sheet, and how many km I’ve run without knee pain, it’s obvious to me, but not to Mr. GP that running isn’t bad for me. Every therapist needs to regularly remind themselves of why they became a therapist. I became a therapist mostly to help others, and to do this, I had to put aside my dogmatic views, and ask lots of questions. Without knowing me, or my history, Mr. GP concluded (according to his belief) that running is bad for me. I wish he had rather asked, Do your knees hurt when you run? I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt, after all it was 4pm in the afternoon. If your GP tells you running is bad for your knees, they’re either tired or hungry, or both. They either need some carbs or they’ve never run themselves. Be kind, give them a Kit Kat. #be
10.01.2022 Metric measurements are not a true/real representation of how we innately feel, although they have their place and time. The values we get from our wrist watches, stop watches or fit bits don’t always reflect our reality. They’re ALWAYS one step behind - a delayed feedback loop. Days like today are one of those rare days, perfect for a raw run. No watch, just running. No set time, distance or destination, just running.... I feel nothing, well, not that I can notice. Everything becomes one, time dissolves and I’m one with it. Today, time is not of the essence. No worries mate. #Everythingirie

06.01.2022 What is Ultra Running you ask? Picture an old vintage set of scales, with a rock in the middle that helps balance/level the beam. The rock represents everything you do to help you run. Things like rest, rehydrating, eating, sleep, massage, etc.... When this works you find yourself on Side A. Side A is where everything is kosher, you run smoothly, fast, your heart rate is low, during your run you feel like you are observing yourself from a drone, coaching yourself, pushing when you need to and pulling back when needed. Some people call it the zone, I call it Side A. In fact, Side A can boost your ego/energy so much that, when you get home, you call the Australian Olympic committee as if it is Dominos, hey Jannette, one Olympic trial please, I’m ready.... But as soon as you hang up, you remembre you are late for work, back to reality. Now, you’ve got the other side. Oh boy! On this side, not long into your run, you stomach starts beatboxing to the sound of It’s time for Africa, you remember your phone bill is due today, a car almost runs you over, you have so many thoughts coming in at once and none of them are helping you run. You look at your watch thinking you’ve got 5 minutes to go, but you’ve only been running for 4 minutes and 17 seconds. Strap yourself in: 55 more minutes and some change to go bro. I find myself being hyper alert to everything on this side of the scale, so much so that sometimes I talk out loud. Today was one of those days and here’s how it went. I saw a guy (I assumed it was a guy) from far away, and began thinking, out loud. We get it Joe de Malacka, you want to show the world your half Shitzu, half dragon best friend (dog), but pull that lead closer to you. I’ve got 99 problems but tripping ain’t one of them. Luckily, he didn’t hear me, he was wearing one of the latest wireless ear things and looking down at his phone. So when I got closer, I spooked him and he almost fell to the ground. I laughed out loud, but I don’t think he did. Then I looked at my watch. Fuck! 50 minutes to go. #be

04.01.2022 A story of how I lost a bet with a dog. Winston: Hey bro! Franklin: Sup! Winston: l bet you 2 dog biscuits I can win this race.... Franklin: You wish, but today is rest day. Winston: Come on man, it’ll make your Strava stats look amazing. Franklin: I could rest afterwards, I guess. Leash or no leash? Winston: No leash. Franklin: Ready...... Next minute Winston: Franklin: I wasn’t even ready bro! Winston: I was. Franklin: At least I’m fast on Strava #internetathlete @ Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

02.01.2022 Some days I don’t feel like running, I don’t feel like exercising, I don’t feel like..., but I remember my why and boom, I’m out of the door, energised and running. . In December 2018 I was hanging out with my childhood friend @blekinick in Manchester. At around 8am, as I was walking out of the hotel to go to the gym, Yannick woke up and asked me where I was going. I told him I was going to the gym. He sighed and asked me why I‘d wake up early while on holiday to go to the g...ym. I told him it was because I loved it and how it makes me feel. We ended up having a long conversation, then he laughed and went back to sleep. By day 4 he was in the gym working out as hard as he could and enjoying it. . Our holiday came to an end and I didn’t think Yannick was going to keep up that habit. Little did I know, the seed I had planted will blossom soon. . A year and a half has gone by. Yannick has transformed, and sometimes when I don’t feel like running or exercising, I remember how many seeds I can plant. #plantingseason #being @ Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
