13.01.2022 Many of you have heard of sustainable design, but have you heard of biophilic design? It is a concept used within the building industry to increase a building occupant's connection to the natural environment. With the rise in urban living, many people feel a need to connect with nature, and incorporating biophilic design principles is one option. Research has also shown that there are health benefits to the practice of biophilic design; so not only will your home be more beau...tiful to live in, it may make you happier and healthier too. HOW CAN YOU BRING NATURE INTO YOUR HOME? There are many ways to connect with nature in your own home, and whether large or small, they will make a difference: maximising natural light and increased natural air-flow planting a garden around your home, and designing your home to connect visually with this natural environment if you don't have a view of a garden or trees, pot plants inside and outside your home will provide plant views incorporate natural materials into your home, examples include natural stone benchtops, river stones for outside landscaping, timber decking, etc designing your home to capture beautiful natural views through window placement, sky windows, etc Here are just a few examples of some of our completed projects. Every home has been designed to transition seamlessly between indoor and outdoor living, increasing connectivity with nature in the homes we build.
12.01.2022 We haven't posted anything for a while, actually we've been very busy working on existing and new projects, including a very exciting personal project that we will share soon. But today is World Environment Day ..... you may already know that? And that got us thinking ...... Did you know that the construction industry is a huge user of resources (both in the production and transport of materials) and a massive contributor to waste (you would have seen waste bins on building s...ites, often overflowing with rubbish, with multiple bins dumped for each home built)? Whilst we can't save our planet, we can in our small way do our bit by what we will and wont do. We don't build mass produced houses for first home buyers who are driven primarily by price, wanting to build the largest house on the smallest (often most affordable) block. Instead our designs respond to the individual requirements of both our clients and the blocks they build on. Correct orientation to the sun is the starting point for every home we design, resulting in homes featuring light and space, comfortable to live in all year round, reducing the need for heating and cooling. Increasingly our clients are prioritising energy efficiency, with thoughtful placement of sky windows, internal fans, PV solar systems, battery storage, hot water heat pumps and water tanks featuring in the homes we build. Our favourite projects include working with clients making the switch to clean energy . on World Environment Day sharing some gorgeous photos of our part of the world taken by very talented local photographer Christopher Pearce. The process of transforming a bare building block into a beautiful outdoor space can be challenging as lot sizes get smaller. Natural materials such as timber decking, the inclusion of a lawn area and thoughtful plant selection, such as hedges along the fence line to provide green privacy screens once established, are key to creating an attractive, relaxing and functional outdoor space.
02.01.2022 Sharing some external photos from our Highton project - nearly completed, with deck to be stained and boundary fencing to be replaced. Set on a corner block, the landscaping was thoughtfully designed to contribute to the street's aesthetic, while at the same time creating privacy for the home's occupants by blocking overlooking from neighbours and passers-by. A green-screen will surround the home once plantings are established, and raised garden beds get the sustainability tick.
