24.01.2022 The count down begins! Lord Howe Island is a place of simple pleasures and six-star natural wonders. This view of Blinky Beach taken by @islandgirl289...8 after a hike over Transit Hill really shows off our paradise on earth. Once over Transit Hill, you will find yourself in the company of a few hundred nesting sooty terns at Blinky. Lord Howe is the only place in New South Wales where these birds nest, and they are literally everywhere at the moment. You will have to mind your step as you dodge their eggs! They can be very protective over their eggs and not fearful of people; it’s incredible being so close to them come and see for yourself! @visitnsw @Australia See more

21.01.2022 Here’s a little teaser of what a month on scuba looks like out here on Lord Howe Island . I’m one month in exploring this wonderful world of scuba diving. It ...has been a steep learning curve for Livi and I’m loving every minute of it! From the personal challenges of rewiring my mind away from freediving and having faith in the gear that holds me, to the squealing moments when Mother Nature surprises you once again. I’ve found that the underwater world is a completely different place with a tank on your back. Sooo so many new elements come into play with navigation, communication, your safety, buoyancy, reading computers, currents, temperature, time constraints, depth constraints, the way you breathe and move, monitoring the safety of others...and that’s just scrapping the surface. I can’t believe how much I’ve learnt in four weeks and it’s all thanks to the legendary team at @prodivelordhowe - I wouldn’t want to be immersed any other way! . 16.01.2022 Qantas continues to review its network in light of the impact COVID-19 has had on travel demand right across the country with ongoing border restrictions for so...me routes. Adjustments to the airline’s turboprop network in Queensland will see its Q200 aircraft, which service Lord Howe Island, solely operate out of Sydney. This means customers wishing to travel between Brisbane and Lord Howe Island when Queensland border restrictions ease will be able to do so by connecting on flights via Sydney. Customers holding existing bookings for direct flights between Lord Howe Island and Brisbane will be contacted with a range of alternative options. : james_laker

08.01.2022 I’ve had this Kentia Palm scrunched up in the corner of my home office for 10 years plus. We got the floors cleaned last week, so it got moved. I suddenly reali...sed just how beautiful it had become. I’m leaving it in this room now, where it can stretch out it’s fronds. It will help protect the furniture from the sun. Kentia Palms come from Lord Howe Island, so they are Australian Natives. They are one of the hardiest indoor plants on the planet. The Indoor Plant Hire Industry love them because they almost never die. You’ll see these inside houses throughout Europe. It’s funny because Aussies don’t really value Kentia Palms. I don’t know why. They are always the most expensive palm in the nursery. This often makes people choose another variety, which is always inferior. When that variety doesn't survive it puts people off palms. Of course Kentia Palms can be grown outside too, in your garden, but they need frost protection. I’ve just fertilised mine with Tim’s FAST FOOD Fertiliser. Well I have fallen in love with it. #kentiapalms #indoorplants #love #fler #midcentury #cleanair #tropical #lordhoweisland #gardeningaustralia #betterhomesandgardens #timsgardencentre #campbelltown See more

07.01.2022 Balls Pyramid - Australia. The first reported European sighting of Balls Pyramid was in 1788 by Lieutenant Henry Lidgbird Ball, commander of the Armed Tender HM...S Supply (the oldest and smallest of the First Fleet ships), which was on its way from Botany Bay NSW with a cargo of nine male and six female convicts to found a penal settlement on Norfolk Island. On the return journey on the 13 March 1788, Ball observed Ball's Pyramid and sent a party ashore on Lord Howe Island to claim it as a British possession. Numerous turtles and tame birds were captured and returned to Sydney. Ball named Mount Lidgbird and Ball's Pyramid after himself and the main island after Richard Howe, 1st Earl Howe, who was First Lord of the Admiralty at the time. The world’s tallest ocean stack is a dramatic triangular chunk of basalt rock sticking 550m out of the ocean 23km south of Lord Howe Island, it is the remains of a shield volcano millions of years old. Balls Pyramid is the sole remaining habitat of a species of giant stick insect that was pronounced extinct 80 years ago. Rediscovered in 2001, the Lord Howe Island Phasmid is said to be the rarest insect in the world, and possibly the rarest invertebrate.

06.01.2022 Slow down and unplug on Lord Howe Island You won’t find any powerlines or high-rise buildings here. UNESCO World Heritage listed Lord Howe Island is a ...step back in time, but with all the comforts. Walk bush trails, climb mountains, swim, surf, snorkel, fish, cycle around the Island, play golf beneath the mountains, take it easy on a deserted beach, savour fine food and wine. And it’s all less than a two-hour flight from @Sydney. :@lettinglukeloose @visitnsw @Australia See more
