25.01.2022 Rest in Peace Catherine. What an amazing difference you made to so many women, giving them the opportunity to rejoin society and live fulfilling lives. Amazing. Long may the Catherine Hamlin Foundation continue your work.

25.01.2022 Great news for our pregnant Mums: Dr Vijay Roach is president of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) and... says pregnant women should not be considered a vulnerable or at-risk group. Read the article for details but this is very reassuring at a time when families are understandably very concerned about the risks. See more

24.01.2022 Ladies with endometriosis - this is a fantastic new resource from Jessica Drummond (US Physio and Nutritional Medicine Practitioner) on how to minimise your symptoms to stop them interfering with life so much. Its well worth the read, and because its launch day, its currently FREE! Let us know how you go with it.

23.01.2022 Featured Product: Yes Water Based Lubricant and Vaginal Moisturiser These all natural products are great when needing a lubricant or relief from vaginal dryness. Read more about them at: www.beachespelvic.physio/shop

23.01.2022 Featured Product: Obstetric TENS unit Ever thought about using this for Endometriosis pain relief? Not only does this little unit work brilliantly during labour but it can also be used for endometriosis pain too. The two functions allow pain relief for the more constant background pain and boost relief for intermittent flares of pain. It can be discretely worn and used throughout the day. Perfect! For more details go to: www.beachespelvic.physio/shop

23.01.2022 Mums, so many of you suffer in silence. 1 in 2 of us will have a prolapse by the time were 50. 1 in 5 of us will need surgery for prolapse or incontinence over our lifetime. Terrible statistics that have been part of the medically acceptable norm for women who have given birth. This should not, and does not need to be the norm. Normal should be having knowledge of birthing risks and processes, and having access to optimal care during and after pregnancies. Optimal car...e that holds maternal health as high a priority as baby health. Maternal health that goes further than breast feeding and mental health but includes physical health and wellbeing. Pelvic Health Physios together with the Australian Birth Trauma Association have set up the petition below to bring Government awareness to these issues and to campaign for the right of women to have access to Pelvic Health Physio services for early intervention and treatment. I feel really passionately about these issues which is why Im sharing this here for any of you to also sign and share. See more

22.01.2022 Thanks Jen for picking this up. Another small step forwards...every little bit counts. Go you powerful women who are prepared to go against the grain.

21.01.2022 Lucy Peach is awesome! I saw her at a festival last year. Ladies you need to watch this, well you blokes should watch this too - it would make sense of our female fluctuations through the month. Education for all of us! Bonus : ) Enjoy.

21.01.2022 Amazing Dynamic MRI of giving birth. What an amazing process!

20.01.2022 World Continence Week 2020 Myth 2.... LEAKING URINE IS TO BE EXPECTED AFTER GIVING BIRTH ...no it is not! Leaking urine after giving birth, or after repeated high impact exercise or heavy lifting, or if you suffer from constipation, chronic coughing or sneezing, or carry extra abdominal weight, is really common BUT NOT NORMAL. It is also very treatable. Pelvic Health Physio is a little known (we're trying to change this) speciality within the physiotherapy profession. We ...have specialised training to assess all pelvic health issues (such as incontinence, prolapse, pain, constipation) to diagnose the cause of your symptoms then design a rehab programme, tailored to you, to resolve it. Simple and effective. For more information or to find out if this could help you, please call us on 0435 150136, email us at [email protected] or check out our website: http://www.beachespelvic.physio See more

19.01.2022 Featured Product: KGoal Improve your pelvic floor the fun way! This little device links to your phone via Bluetooth so that you can exercise in real-time. The main cushion deflates ready for insertion, then re-inflates to conform to you, making it very sensitive for giving you feedback on your pelvic floor muscle function. It also has games to play! Who could ask for more... Read more at: https://www.beachespelvic.physio/product-page/kgoal

19.01.2022 Featured Product: Prostate Recovery Map This little book is packed full of goodness. Written by Craig Allingham from personal and professional experience it takes you through the journey from pre-surgery to full recovery. A great adjunct to any therapy programme you are already undergoing. To buy your copy go to: https://www.beachespelvic.physio/prod/prostate-recovery-map

19.01.2022 This is such an important surgery that has been demoted to a cosmetic procedure and therefore not funded , by people who I presume have never been through pregnancy....grrr. Please sign the petition embedded in this article to support this lady. Thanks

17.01.2022 Continence week AND Mens Health week all at once! Here is a very digestible infographic on Mens Health and wellness to share with the men in your life - thanks to the Canadians

17.01.2022 Sharing from Australian Birth Trauma Association. (Thank you Catherine Willis for bringing it to my attention) If you went to hospital for an operation and ended up at home with a faecal incontinence or urinary incontinence - there would be SO much help and support. Instead, so many women are led to believe that this is a new normal after childbirth (because they have nothing else to compare it to!). ... Incontinence is a BIG deal. Not only at an individual level but a societal and global problem. 66,700,000,000 - This number simplified is 66.7 billion or 66700 million and its the overall annual cost of incontinence in Australian dollars in 2010. Its likely to be much higher by now. Despite the fact that many cases can be treated/prevented, 70% of those with incontinence do not seek treatment. Reference: Deloitte Access Economics. The economic impact of incontinence in Australia. The Continence Foundation of Australia; 2011 We must speak up until pelvic health physiotherapists start to be part of postpartum care for ALL women. #WCW2020 Continence Foundation of Australia

15.01.2022 World Continence Week 2020 Myth 3.... I'M TOO OLD/I'VE HAD THIS TOO LONG FOR ANYTHING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE ...Wrong! You are never too old to train the pelvic floor or have treatment for pelvic health issues. We treat everyone from teenagers to 90+yr olds and see improvement in all of them. It may take a little longer the older you are, but you are never too old to strengthen muscles and you certainly don't need to put up with symptoms just because you're older. It can be... embarrassing asking for help, especially if talking about these very personal symptoms has traditionally been a taboo topic for you and those around you, but rest assured, we, as Pelvic Health Physios, spend our days talking about these things and want you to tell us about them so that we can get you started on the path to recovery. If you would like more information about what the assessment/treatment involves there is plenty of information on our website http://www.beachespelvic.physio Alternatively we are very happy to talk to you on the phone (0435 150136) or via email: [email protected] See more

06.01.2022 Life is very uncertain at present with everything that is happening however, pregnancies, births and health issues continue as normal! 06.01.2022 World Continence Week 2020 Myth 1... PELVIC FLOOR EXERCISES ARE BORING AND DON'T DO ANYTHING ...this is a MYTH. Well, mostly a myth! Pelvic floor exercises are boring, that bit's true, but they are incredibly effective and that makes it worthwhile doing them, you just need to be doing them right. No 2 issues or individuals are the same so it makes sense that a 'one size fits all' approach to pelvic floor exercises doesn't work for everyone doesn't it? There is nothing wro...ng with starting with a generic training programme, but if it's not working for you, don't stop there. Get an assessment with a Pelvic Health Physio who will determine what is actually going on and tailor a specific programme to your needs. It may be that you're not activating the muscles correctly, or that you need specific endurance, speed or coordination training or a.n.other approach. Our Pelvic Health Physio's at Beaches Pelvic Physio are very honest people - we're also kind and gentle - we will tell you if muscle training is not the right option for you and if we don't have any other options (of which there are a few) we will refer you on to your Doctor or Specialist for further investigation. So please, reach out and get the help that you need. You don't need to suffer in silence. Muscle training is simple and can be very effective in decreasing your symptoms. There are even gadgets that can make it more interesting...you can play computer games with your pelvic floor - who knew! 0435 150136 / [email protected] See more

05.01.2022 COVID-19 isolation has had some lovely pros as well as the obvious cons. One of those advantages has been finally getting to do this video (I haven't quite mastered the screenshot yet...). This has been on my 'to do' list for the last couple of years but I haven't had the time/brain space to sort out the technology behind it. But now I have, and it's done. I've set up a clinic YouTube channel (who'd 'a' thought) and hopefully linked it to the webpage (that bit isn't finalised yet), so please enjoy learning about your pelvic floor and do pepper me with any questions you have. Always happy to answer. [email protected] https://youtu.be/yutZVaS1okI
