24.01.2022 Big day tomorrow to show your support, it's important that as cyclists we protect the little assests that we have like the Noble Park Velodrome. These facilities are worth millions to replace and are a ever increasing sanctuary for children and bigginers to learn to ride in a safe environment. Our roads are becoming more aggressive and congested in the South of Melbourne, and the needs for facilities like this is becoming ever so important.

21.01.2022 Posted @withregram @carnegiecaulfieldcycling Some clarification from the Vic Government and @cyclingvictoria regarding riding under stage 3 restrictions: Exercise is allowed, but you cannot leave or enter restricted metropolitan Melbourne areas or the Mitchell Shire for physical activity. ... For example, rides to the Dandenongs from Bayside suburbs or beyond the boundaries of Melbourne Metropolitan and Mitchell Shire would not align to Government directions. Cyclists looking to ride distance may customise loops within close proximity to their residence and elect to go the minimum time and distance required for the purpose of exercise. Looking to go on extended time/distance rides or for loopholes may not be viewed not in the spirit of the restrictions by relevant authorities. Contact has been made with Sport & Recreation Victoria and when more information becomes available this will be provided. See more

08.01.2022 Day 2 of the Tour of Selangor Carnegie Caulfield racers started Day 2 of the tour with an unplanned but pleasantly unexpected ride to the race start in the back... of an ambulance. It was a first for the racers, but they accepted the sterile accommodations gracefully and enjoyed the ride. Not a bad way to travel to a race for sure; well that is just as long as that’s not where you involuntarily end up upon leaving the race. The day was hot and sweaty like Day 1, but the racers seemed to have shook off and quickly adjusted to the sweltering Malaysian heat from the previous day remarkably well. They geared up and briefly did a few pre-race sprints without a change in composure or focus. After a few laughs, media interviews and some quick team photo-ops, they hit the race start with renewed vigor and true Aussie grit ( as well as some savvy German muscle). Another challenging race course for Day 2; lots of swooping turns, narrow construction-lined stretches of new highways with high temporary walls resembling massive gauntlets which seemed to completely dwarf the peloton at times. Add in a few steep grueling climbs and long twisting fast descents through streets packed with thousands of cheering, cell-phone yielding crowds eagerly waiting to get a glimpse of the heart-thumping action. Tour of Selangor is not for the weak or adventure-free type racer; but what an experience to absorb and remember. Carnegie Caulfield definitely took advantage of the Selangor challenge today and showed off their hard won efforts and racing talent by riding throughout the day in the break and taking 2nd and 5th in the Stage Best Young Rider by Bentley- Piquet-Olden. Awesome racing today, and looking forward to another stellar day at stage 3 today by Jennifer Blaine team directors assistant John Dam See more

06.01.2022 Day 3 Tour of Selangor- Dec 20th 2019 A warm early morning start kicked off Stage 3 of the Tour of Selangor with 86 of the initial 109 starters remaining. A dec...lining number some would most likely attribute to the brutally hot Malaysian high temps of 32 degrees Celsius, (88 degrees Fahrenheit) and a staggering drench- your-soul 68 percent humidity. Despite the temps marked toll, there were still plenty of hardy whatever-weather warriors left to battle for the win as the Tour soldiered-on to the next stage. A little after 6 am, a packed banquet room of sleepy-eyed, sore, but cheery racers exited the Concorde Hotel, ‘Shah Alam'. Lean racers with belly’s full of piled-up plates of healthy, or at least somewhat healthy, carbohydrates, bananas and generous cups of coffee, loaded up in the caravan of packed buses and Subarus for the 40 minute trek to the race start. Lines of police motorcycles and other support vehicles safely escorted the Tour caravan to the race blocking heavy morning rush-hour traffic with urgent command and celebrity status attention. Racers seemed a bit tired from the previous days racing, but more than ready to get on the course and see just what fire they had left in the tank. The course was fast and punchy with some strong hills and all-out adrenaline riding through busy and somewhat messy city streets and highways. Carnegie Caulfield held their own with impressive stamina, powering through early peloton chaos and staying strong in the front breaks. All race tactics and strategy seemed to fall into place until mayhem and misfortune befell the talented and strong young rider, Tim Cutler who was caught up in a harried crash on the side of a busy highway. A rider apparently became a bit overzealous while attempting to pass in the peloton; and ended up recklessly clipping Cutlers’ front wheel causing a cataclysm that left both riders in a deep muddy gutter. Cutler sustained severe gashes on his legs, bruises, a ride to the hospital, and several stitches. Sad to see a promising young racer go down and unable to compete in the final days of the tour but we are happy that he will make a full recovery for future racing. The rest of Carnegie Caulfield remains in the Tour of Selangor; racing hard and doing exceptionally well despite the enduring challenges that mount with each stage. Each day of the stage brings new excitement and tests each and every rider to the limits of their maximum effort. Bentley Olden holding 8th in general classification 2nd in young riders competition. 03.01.2022 Track Showdown The hotly contested fate of Maurice Kirby Velodrome in Noble Park will be known as soon as the end of October. In recent months, cyclists have m...ounted a showdown with Greater Dandenong Council over its preferred demolition of the track at Parkfield Reserve. The council insists no final decision has been made on its draft reserve masterplan which would replace the velodrome with soccer pitches and a shared path. Springvale cyclist Kym Nguyen has doubts over Greater Dandenong Council’s three-step community consultation. In the absence of a cycling club at the track, Cycling Victoria nor Maurice Kirby’s family were sounded out about the demolition, he said. At a recent meeting with him, council officers refused to discuss the track, he said. We’re left with a situation where literally nothing can be done because they’ve shut their doors. The ‘Save Noble Park Velodrome’ group argue that a $75,000 resurface is all that’s needed to repair the asphalt track. Missy Kempster regularly walks her pram around the velodrome. She had been unaware of the planned demolition when Star News met her at the track on 10 October. She disagreed with Greater Dandenong’s claim that the velodrome was largely disused. That’s not right. On any given weekend, on any given day, you’ll see people using it. A lot of mums walk around the track while the kids play on the grassed area (inside the track). The velodrome is named after legendary bike-shop owner and sports commentator Maurice Kirby, who founded Pedal Clubs of Victoria. At a recent council meeting, Cr Roz Blades publicly assured that Mr Kirby would continue to be honoured at the reserve. Mr Kirby’s daughter Gayle George said there was no way her father would support the destruction of the track in favour of a shared path. That wasn’t what Dad was all about. A shared path wasn’t his concept of things. At the velodrome, rider John O’Brien was amazed he didn’t know about the track until the protest campaign several weeks ago. It’s a very casual velodrome because it doesn’t have a massive bank on it. You can teach kids how to ride without any cars around. It’s a piece of infrastructure that should definitely be kept. State champion rider David Koroknai, of Rowville, has ridden on the track regularly in the past nine years. I was training here even when riding at international level. It’s always used. The planned replacement gravel path would be completely useless for riding track bikes, he said. Maree Davenport, the Liberal candidate for Mulgrave, used to ride the locally unique amenity as a kid. It’s always been a safe place to ride away from the roads. It’s in terrible repair but that’s because of years of neglect by the council. On 8 October, Greater Dandenong city planning director Jody Bosman said a formal report on Parkfield Reserve would be tabled for a vote within four to six weeks. The council had engaged in a three step consultation process starting in December 2016, including website surveys and a postcard survey of all residents within a kilometre of the reserve. The track did not meet Cycling Victoria requirements as a velodrome in terms of gradient, safety fences and a safe ride-off area, Mr Bosman said. An estimated extra 46 soccer pitches and four cricket fields were required in the next 5-10 years but there was also no known demand for competition cycling in Greater Dandenong. There was no established cycling club in the municipality, and there were other suitable velodromes across Melbourne, Mr Bosman said. https://dandenong.starcommunity.com.au//20/track-showdown/ Cycling Victoria Cycling Australia VicHealth City of Greater Dandenong SBS Cycling Central 9 News Melbourne Macquarie Sports Radio Jayco Australia Herald Sun Tour Cycling Maven camnicholls.com Maree Davenport - Liberal for Mulgrave Daniel Andrews SEATalliance Cycling Dads Oz Melbourne Cycling League The Cycling Scrapbook Bicycle Network Cycle
03.01.2022 Our Chuffed.org fund raising campaign is live! Join the club - You can help rebuild Noble Park Dandenong Cycling Club https://chuffed.org//you-can-help-rebuild...-noble-park-dande The Greater Dandenong area needs a cycling club And not just any cycling club. Our area needs bicycle friendly facilities for children, families and everyone to ride, learn skills and importantly, have fun riding a bike! But there’s a problem Currently the existing Maurice Kirby Velodrome (MKV) at Dunblane Road, Noble Park is under threat from immediate demolition by Greater Dandenong Council (GDC). GDC have stated in their Parkfield Reserve masterplan that they believe there is no demonstrated need for the velodrome, as they also think there's no cycling organisations in the area. Despite being badly maintained, MKV is required more than ever by the Greater Dandenong community. MKV is almost perfectly round, has no straights, has a gentle gradient and was designed and constructed for children in mind by the community and Noble Park Cycling Club in the early 1960s. 02.01.2022 Another excellent roundup by Jennifer Blaine of yesterday stage 4 - today we depart in a few hours on the final stage 5 go team!! Stage 4 Tour of Selangor Satu...rday, December 21, 2019 Selayang-Sungai Besar Each day of the Tour brings a renewed ambiance and stark resounding purpose from the very moment the racers open their eyes. There is not much time to reflect, worry or analyze all the possible scenarios or unplanned circumstances that may arise. They’ve trained insanely hard and gave everything they had to get to this place, this tour and this level of racing; and that’s what remains as the most important aspect to carry them through this ultimate test of endurance and mental fortitude. On deck for today’s stage; 144.6 km, and 85 starters. Out of the gate, racers immediately dug in with ferocious power, attacking within the first 10 minutes as they flew up the first climb on a scenic monster highway that careened and twisted up through massive jungle covered cliffs and unbelievably engineered concrete bridges. The peloton definitely took on an entirely different personality today; the stakes were mounting and it showed in the speed and aggressive push from every team and rider. Carnegie racers wasted no time or hesitation as they impressively raced down the highway and red-lined all efforts up the climb to bridge the peloton and reign in the first break. Watching the race ramp up to max levels within minutes left all spectators stunned and glued to the riveting excitement unfolding on every hill-climb, speeding corner and seat-clenching decent. Carnegie powered through this stage like seasoned soldiers, never holding back or losing sight of their mission. The young power-house Bentley-Niquet-Olden showed his might once again by holding steady with the lead for the majority of the race, and finishing the stage among the top 10 racers. Another impressive Stage and phenomenal results from Carnegie Caulfield racers completed with undeniable valor; Douglas Callahan finishing strong at 40, John Maguire 41, Ross Giovanni 45th and Bastian Doehling 64th. Last day of the Tour and even more unbelievable racing awaits the spectators, fans and incredible competitors today at the final stage of the Tour of Selangor. See more
