I don't want to discourage visitors but I thought I should put out this warning at the start of the short #greatwhiteshark season in #Perth. 13.01.2022 END of YELO? If you've ever taken a walk up the coast from #ScarboroughBeach to #Trigg you might have enjoyed a coffee at the yelo Cornerstore cafe. A 5 storey building proposed on the site might spell the end of 11 years of a popular community place. For example, high rise near train stations, building community recreational infrastructure such as the skate park at Scarborough Beach, etc. Even high rise in the right place and not so high that it overshadows neighbouring homes. Years ago CoS were either complicit or ignorant of the misleading or at worst fake Geo Science building/shadow models in the CoS council building foyer. The shadows were NOT indicative of shadows during the winter solstice when a lamp post on the north side of Brighton Road cast shadows on properties south of Brighton Road, mainly because with such a tall building on the corner of Brighton Rd and the Esplanade there was not enough set-back. Yelo is very popular in the local community and for tourists travelling the Sunset Coast Drive. It's popular not only because they serve good coffee and food but because it's a bright, naturally illuminated meeting place. It's trendy, groovy (yeah baby, u know what I mean) because it's owned and well managed by young local people. Maybe the replacement cafe will be too but I don't want to take the risk of losing a known success for maybe another sterile, same, same aluminium and glass cafe building with no heritage and may be owned and leased to management who don't live or contribute CSR in the local community.

Us locals know to look out for rips, what to do when caught in a rip and to swim between the flags.
