23.01.2022 **IMPORTANT INFORMATION** We have seen a number of pets affected by Paralysis Tick over the last week. Ixodes holocyclus AKA Paralysis Tick is a little creature capable of causing severe illness and death of pets. If you notice any of the signs below in your pet, please seek immediate veterinary attention; * Uncoordinated/wobbly gait... * Laboured breathing * Weakness * Collapse * Vomiting or retching * Change of bark or meow This is a timely reminder to thoroughly check your pets daily and to ensure your pets are on a suitable tick/flea preventative medication. If you need any further information, please phone us on 4057 8677 Image sourced from Museum of Tropical Queensland

22.01.2022 Have you noticed that your pets breath is a bit smelly? Bad breath, (halitosis), can be an indicator that your pet may be suffering from dental issues. 22.01.2022 Crate training is a new concept for many, but has multiple benefits for both adult dogs and puppies. Crate training is a great way of teaching the boundaries of the house and helping to make it a safe space for your dog. When you’re traveling in the car, going to the vet, if your dog needs hospitalisation at the vet or you need to confine your dog for any reason, such as in the event of injury or after surgery, a dog that is crate trained will be way more comfortable and happier than those that are unfamiliar with it. Please read the article below on crate training tips and techniques if you would like some help training your dog or new puppy https://fearfreehappyhomes.com/welcome-home-crate-train-ne/

21.01.2022 Cats are very sensitive animals and what we may consider insignificant changes in the environment or in our routines may greatly affect cats that live in our homes leading to stress/anxiety related behaviours. Sometimes stress/anxiety is displayed because of injury or illness but regardless of the cause, persistent stress may have serious negative impacts on your cats physical and psychological well-being. Below are some signs that your cat may be suffering from the effects ...of stress/anxiety; toileting outside of the litter tray, (defecation or urination), diarrhoea, excessive scratching on furniture, over grooming which can lead to bald patches or sores, aggressive behaviour towards humans or other pets, excessive vocalisation, increased hiding/withdrawl behaviour, reluctance/disinterest in play when this was normal behaviour, pacing or repetitive behaviour, more easily startled or frightened, poor appetite or eating less than usual. Cats are very good at concealing issues that may be affecting them and even small changes in behaviour may warrant veterinary assessment so if you are concerned please call us on 40578677 to have your cat evaluated.

20.01.2022 We now have our phones working! Thank you so much for your patience during this time

17.01.2022 Did you know despite their Mack Truck builds, that wombats can reach speeds of up to 40km/hour? They can maintain this speed for short distances and generally run this fast when threatened. Still almost as fast as Usain Bolt though - pretty awesome for a stocky marsupial #marsupial #olympic #champ #wombat

17.01.2022 Did you know that the mosquito is considered to be the most dangerous animal in the world? This insect is responsible for around one million human deaths per year...way more than sharks, crocs, snakes and hippo related human deaths combined! Our pets are also at very high risk of death by mosquito bites too. Deadly Heartworm is spread by mozzies so make sure your dogs are on preventative treatment from these little nasties!

15.01.2022 Did you know that when a rabbit jumps and twists, often while running, is a show of pure joy, happiness and excitement. The maneuver is called a "binky"...how cute is that!

15.01.2022 "Deja moo"... that feeling you have heard this same bull before #cowhumour

15.01.2022 This is Lucy enjoying a little clinic snack during her examination and vaccination at the clinic. This, (treats), is a technique we used to help Lucy feel comfortable and help distract her from the discomfort of her procedure. At Beachside, we are in the process of developing Fear Free practices where we focus on spending time helping your pet adapt to the clinic environment and responding to their individual behaviour accordingly. We are putting these techniques into practice to help minimise fear and encourage calm behaviour so there is less resistance during examination/procedures and less time spent restraining or holding your animal which is great for your animals emotional health A win win situation for all involved

14.01.2022 So dramatic!! #friyay

14.01.2022 Did you know that many years ago, the koala once inhabited parts of Western Australia and the Northern Territory? Koalas are now restricted to the east coast of the mainland and a corner of South Australia. Recently there was a koala sighting at the Yourka Reserve west of Tully...the first sighting in that area for 13 years!!!

12.01.2022 Just a couple of beautiful faces visiting us at beachside recently

11.01.2022 Did you know that most cats are lactose intolerant? Like humans, cats will readily accept it but offering them cow's milk may actually lead to significant health issues. Milk is not a necessary nutritional requirement after weaning and many cats will suffer stomach upsets or other health related problems from drinking cows milk. If your kitty absolutely loves his/her dairy treats, then consider giving them "cat milk" which is low lactose and will be much gentler on their tummies. Just remember to factor this into their daily food intake as the treat is quite high in calories

11.01.2022 Ahhhhh....Sundays #Geoffry

11.01.2022 One of the things we see and do at the vet clinic that makes our job even more special! Frankie presented to the clinic a little while back with difficulty during labour and unfortunately needed some assistance - an emergency caesarean . Dr Cate was quick to act and not long after, successfully delivered 4 healthy little babies Below is a pic just after birth and others taken last week for their first check. Frankie is a great little mumma and her babies are just adorable! #lovewhatwedo #dystocia #ceasarian #dachshund

11.01.2022 If you have a pool please leave something draping into the water to allow wildlife to get out Remember to supervise pets around the pool too...a frightened dog that has fallen into a pool often can't find a way to get out and can drown...

11.01.2022 Another beautiful face visiting us here at Beachside Meet Ralphie, our newest patient

09.01.2022 The Virgo dog and cat

09.01.2022 August 10th was World Lion Day!! Did you know that the colour of a mature males mane indicates nutrition and testosterone levels and influences the females choice for mating and male to male competition. The darker the mane, the more desirable they are to females or feared by potential competitors! Mane length signifies strength, fighting ability or success and is usually only used as an assessment by other males to "size them up" for potential combat. Because of these factors, long, dark-maned males will generally experience longer reproductive life-spans and higher offspring survival.

08.01.2022 This is Mila at Beachside for a short stay...the lengths we go to to keep your pets comfortable whilst in hospital!
