25.01.2022 Beacon are proud to be working alongside Burnie Works, North-West Industry Training Hub and business in Tasmania’s North West and on the Central Coast to deliver ‘Finding their Place’. This outcome focused campaign is a call to industry to offer VET placements to local year 11/12 students who will need to undertake a VET placement to complete year 12. We want to reach as many businesses as possible across the Central Coast, Burnie, Waratah- Wynyard, Circular Head and West C...oast council areas to ensure that students in the Hellyer Regional Collective will have the best opportunity to complete their training in what has been a very disrupted year for all of our young people. Check out the live stream from earlier today via the video below.

23.01.2022 We had a brilliant day in Hobart today working alongside Tasmanian Hospitality Association and Wrest Point Hobart presenting the first of three Tasmanian hospitality showcases. Students from Southern Tasmania had the opportunity to learn and experience a variety of careers in the hospitality industry with some fun interactive activities (including cupcakes!) and brilliant mentors who shared their stories and tips. We are looking forward to the next events in Launceston and Burnie. Special thanks to Tasmanian Hospitality Association for providing Beacon Foundation with the opportunity to work alongside you on these important events and thanks to the Wrest Point Hobart for going above and beyond for the students today.

23.01.2022 Collective ed. Meander Valley asked the students to think about ways we can help make our community great. Turns out, it can be small things like saying hi and smiling. About Collective ed.: Collective ed. is a five year place-based systems change initiative across six communities in Tasmania including Deloraine and greater Meander Valley. This work is informed by the collective impact principles and is focused on bringing communities together alongside schools to utilise community data to develop and implement action focused on year 12 attainment and meaningful pathways.

22.01.2022 The Tasmanian Hospitality Association’s second Tasmanian Hospitality Showcase was held in Launceston yesterday at the Country Club. It’s a fantastic initiative by THA, offering students an insight into career opportunities in the hospitality sector including kitchen skills, front of house training and mocktail making. Yesterday’s event built on a very successful Hobart event last week. We are honoured to support such an important initiative together with THA and Country Club Tasmania and the 120 students participating on the day. https://www.examiner.com.au//out-of-the-classroom-into-th/

Next up is Burnie on September 23!

14.01.2022 It's live! This is Ethan's story: Ethan secured a full time gig working for Brighton Council as a gardener after completing an Australian School-based Apprenticeship (ASbA). ASbA's are a paid, employment-based training arrangement where Year 10, 11 or 12 students are able to combine employment, training and education to gain a nationally recognised qualification. ... We met Ethan with his supervisor Tim to capture his journey. On the day, Tim said it was important to the council to offer ASbAs to students from Jordan River Learning Federation Senior School to make sure local kids were given the opportunity to be part of the community and build pride in representing their area. Ethan said the ASbA had been life-changing for him and he hopes to stay working for the Council long into the future. 07.01.2022 Today we filmed Ethan's story. Ethan secured a full time gig working for Brighton Council as a gardener after completing an Australian School-based Apprenticeship (ASbA). ASbA's are a paid, employment-based training arrangement where Year 10, 11 or 12 students are able to combine employment, training and education to gain a nationally recognised qualification. Ethan is pictured here with Tim (right) who is his supervisor. Coincidentally, on the day, we found out that Tim's... daughter is also doing an AsbA!
