10.01.2022 If your child is starting Kindergarten next year, it can be useful to meet people in your school community including new friends for your child. There are op...portunities to do this through activities at your local school, such as pre-kinder or Launching into Learning, or visiting your local Child and Family Centre. More information about these programs can be found at https://fal.cn/3bNKR #ReadyForSchool #TheNextStep #TasGovEducation #LearnersFirst #LaunchingIntoLearning #ChildAndFamilyCentre

10.01.2022 Add a Key Word or Concept . This is one of my favourite language strategies! . The idea here is to try to stay a step ahead in the language level your child is ...using. This way you are helping them to see what the next stage looks (and sounds) like. . So if they sign, act out or gesture something, you say the word for them. For example, if they gesture "eat", you can say "eat". If they point to a banana, you say "banana". . If your child uses a single word (or a version of it), then you might model (say) a two word combination. For example, if they say "eat" while pretending to eat a banana, you could say "eat banana". Maybe they point out a car and so you add a concept like "big", "noisy" or "red" to make the phrase "red car!". . If they are using two words together, you might model a short sentence. For example, if they say "eat banana" while pointing at their baby brother eating, you might say "Yeah! Jack is eating a banana". It's important to try and keep your modelling grammatically correct (rather than baby talk) - especially when you are modelling sentences. . It might be that you can model two word combinations around words your child is already using - but need to model single words only for new words and concepts. That's absolutely fine! It's great to be flexible in following where your child is at. . Handy hint: Theres no need to count those little filler words like "is, "it", "I'm", etc when adding a word on. We are really just talking about adding on KEY words. . Make sure you check out my stories and highlights to see videos of this in action. I was lucky enough to get a play date with the adorable Charlie from @lets_play_charlie and his awesome Mum, Tara. We grabbed some clips to share with you all (despite my three rascals' best efforts!). 03.01.2022 This festive time of year can be a delicious treat, time to relax and soak up the sunshine. 2020 has offered more challenges than expected, and what can often ...already be a stressful time of year for many has become harder still. We can all help one another in our own ways, playing to our own strengths. Where restrictions allow, maybe you can invite little ones over for a playdate or meet friends at a park to take the load off; make a double batch of dinner and take some round to someone you might know doing it tough or invite them to sit at your table; pick up the phone and let someone offload and really listen so they know they have an outlet. Peaceful Christmas x
